You need to update drivers for your graphics card, not your monitor. If after that you still don't see the mode which you think should be there, read your monitor's specs and carefully define the mode manually in the driver configuration.

Also lower resolutions might allow higher refresh rates.

I remember that with the launch of winXP, support for CRT was basicly thrown out the window by nvidia/amd/microsoft. Having to use tricks to allow high refreshrates that your CRT would normally support anyway, and have always worked on win98.

Honestly cant tell you what i did back then to unlock all the options, but there should be tools out there to fix the issue.

In the old 16-bit DOS overlay that was Windows 3/95/98/ME, you had monitor "drivers" that defined modes manually.

But then PnP happened.

So now video drivers support plug-and-play by talking to the monitor. Correct VESA PnP monitor includes all supported modes in an EDID packet.

If only your monitor has correct firmware, it will work in any operating system out of the box. That's what PnP is for, right?

However, if you have a monitor with shit firmware copied from a $99 Samsung and the monitor tells your operating system it supports up to 85 Hz, it's not the OS's fault, it's the monitor's.

And since you still can force any mode in driver settings, I don't see support being "thrown out the window".

i have a vision master pro 454, where in win xp and above it refused to work on proper refreshrates. something like 85hz max on 1024 while it supported 185 (or in that range)

I have Vision Master Pro 451, it has absolute garbage in its EDID.

It is NOT bad will from OS vendor, it's iiyama being absolute idiots about PnP support.

It let's you add your own refresh+resolution assuming your monitor supports whatever you throw at it

So what I managed to make is a 800x600@140hz but nothing else, any 640x480 resolution will just tell me frequency overload.

And also I see some of you talking about EDID (Which I have no clue what that is). Well when searching for drivers it got me to download some "EDID Editor" from Viewsonic which I have no idea how to use or what it does.

Also someone was talking about PnP. When I updated the driver it was firstly named my monitor name in Device Manager but then it changed to Generic PnP Monitor. Dont know if that information is relevant but w/e.

untick only supported modes, there you go, force any refresh rate you want, and know your monitor supports.

Make sure your Nvidia drivers version allows you to unlock custom resolutions then create the resolution with the refresh rate you want
