Ultimately this is designed to revive the competitive FPS 1v1 scene.I guess I won't be playing Reborn :/
Anybody dedicated enough can learn game programming, 3D modeling, texturing, 3D animation, game design and level design in just a few yearsI disagree. Sure, you can learn the basics and be able to fundamentally do all of those, but you won't be skilled at any of them.
You don't need to be a skilled programmer to script anything in a game the same way you don't need to be a skilled artist to make 3D assets that look goodI still don't agree. See this quote from a John Carmack keynote (from http://www.codingthewheel.com/game-dev/john-c...d-harmful/ ):
One of the lessons that we took away from Doom 3 was that script interpreters are bad, from a performance, debugging, development standpoint. It’s kind of that argument “oh but you want a free-form dynamically typed language here so you can do all of your quick, flexible stuff, and people that aren’t really programmers can do this stuff”, but you know one of the big lessons of a big project is you don’t want people that aren’t really programmers programming, you’ll suffer for it!
