Ever since the standalone came on I've had issues with my FPS. First of all, I have absolutely NO IDEA what I should set my com_maxfps to now. Also what the hell is com_idlesleep 0/1 and what does it do ?

What kind of FPS should I try to get ? Right now I've set com_idlesleep 0 and com_maxfps 125. But running around on toxicity the FPS still drop when I'm looking at certain areas of the map or if I'm spinning my mouse around.

Can anyone really help me understand anything in this mess and guide me toward values that are best for me ? I could not really find something definitive in all the hints I've got from various people so I've made this thread.

PS: never had a problem before standalone. What the hell happened... ?

Also, what the hell is that awesomium_process ?

I have two of them + quakelive.exe... amounts to a lot of cpu usage doesn't it ? For quake ?

he is implying that with 144hz you can't notice more than 144fps because that is the monitor refresh rate and thereby there is no need to set the frame rate higher.

if u'd lower ur fps to 142 (144 is not valid it will be 166 insteed) then ur cl_maxpackets will be 71 not 125 : D. if it tells u something

In QL it's either 125 or 250. Anything that's not that value is not optimal.

I can say, that while having non gaming monitor NEC 60 hz... If I set com_maxfps to 200 or 250 I got clear difference in background smoothness (moving mouse left and right the background is clearly less jittering). You can explain me that its not possible but still ... I dunno is it fps or what but its better.

com_maxfps 125 or 250. other values are changing cl_maxpackets.
com_idlesleep 0.
r_vertexlight 1 makes fps much higher. also r_enablePostProcess 0.

also, make sure you can constantly hit stable 250fps if you set maxfps to that, otherwise the lowered framerate will dynamically lower your packets output. that is the theoretical version of it. now in reality.. lets just say you're not the only one feeling the weird framerate difference after the standalone :) somehow the game feels as the framerate was plummeting randomly, when supposedly it isn't. running stable 125 or 200 fps now just feels twice as bad as stable 125fps used to be. i have different experiences on two different machines though.

I get drops on most maps with values like 125 and 250. If you set to 126 it stays solid though? I can get solid fps at 201, 220, 235, but anything from 236 and above goes shakey, anything lower than 126 drops too. Weird fucking shit going on.

By default, QL now sleeps instead of "spinning" in a loop for x ms. Some systems seem to have problems and sleep way more than they are asked to. com_idlesleep was added to give these users the possibility to revert to the old spinning behaviour.

if you have a nvidia card, you could check if you have "threaded optimization" turned on.
that doesn't work well with QL and should be set to AUTO or OFF.

another thing: do u actually use r_lodbias -2?
it's the optimal setting with enemymodel keel.

I had 2 actually. When I changed it to -2 it looked like I had a lower fov...

What does that do ?

Also set enablepostprocess to 0. Seems a bit better.

I tend to have huge lags when someone appears online/offline or when someone connects to the server, or also when I respawn or use a teleporter.

Well I tried now and it looks a bit better but still it's weird that I never had any issue before :(

set affinity both on awesompooo and quakelive using differernt cores helps a bit. if you do not mind losing your friends list seeing elo or whatever what not else.. you can run browserless which will also help matters.

r_lodbias controls the level of detail of objects("-2" highest quality, "2" lowest quality).
coincidentally, the value of -2 makes enemymodel keel to fit the hitbox best.
tankjr fits best with r_lodbias 2.

I have the same problem. The problem for me was that the standalone uses my laptop's on-board video card instead of the dedicated chip (which is the default).

What I do now is right-click the QL shortcut -> "Run with graphics processor" -> "High performance NVIDIA processor"
