Doesn't really matter. U can get used to any/all types of cherry switches. I have blue and they're perfectly fine. I've realized that the KB is the part u should be least worried about. Mouse and pad is understandable but keyboards are irrelevant. Just my opinion tho

Im very much inclined to agree with you, In general I don't think twice about my keyboard and just play, was just curious on ESR's opinion however.

but Red seem to be the best for actually playing. Blue best for typing. Also, blue are loud as fuck...lol. even with the O ring sound dampeners. I can't imagine how loud they'd be if I didn't have any on mine.

Got ducky shine 3 with reds and blue o-rings a couple of weeks ago, had ss 7g with these o-rings before
Reds feel nicer and overall more comfortable, but quake perfomance wise there's no difference tbh, the keyboard has no effect on dodge or movement

Ended up ordering some of those last night to use on my MX reds. Should adjust the reds to the way I like them (light feel but keyboard travel distance will be similar to blacks I assume)

blacks have an advantage of depressing faster, but with o-rings actuation point is almost bottomed out so it basically depresses instantly for any type of switch

Went from a membrane $5 dollar keyboard to one with mx reds. Makes no impact on my quake game.

I use mx black. The force required to press sometimes feels to high. Next time I'd go with red switches.

If anyone here loves the feel of the IBM Model M buckling spring keys, then I'd recommend the Cherry MX Greens. To me, they feel slightly less fatiguing than the MX Blacks and also have a tactile feel plus an audible click. Get o-ring dampeners to reduce the loudness of the click. You could go for a Unicomp keyboard, but those are not capable of 6KRO or NRKO like most mechanical keyboards.

If you don't care about all that, I'd recommend the MX Reds (linear) or Browns (tactile). Both are easy to press and they don't have loud clicky sounds. I typically stay away from Blues. If I want clicky, I go with Greens (my favorite switches).

OP: you said you think MX Blacks fit the flow and speed of Quake. When I tried those switches, I felt like the higher actuation force actually made it harder to move my model. I knew this wasn't true, but it felt really awkward. All depends on preference.

Started with mx blue, used them for a long time and really loved it - granted I would never recommend them for gaming, tapping a key fast was annoying and sometimes you wouldn't bottom down which prevented some rapid movements.

Switched to browns and didn't like them at all, it's neither tactile nor linear. They aren't bad objectively, my friend that bought the keyboard loves them, it just didn't feel nice to type on them.

Using MX red and I would say they are best for gaming, but my heart belongs to MX blue or Green Alps.

Gave mx clear a try but they didn't leave any impression.

Browns are tactile. There is a bump when you press down. No clicky sound though.

if you compare blues and reds, browns fall somewhere in between, that's what I meant.
They have a tactile but less pronounced feel.

I've had Blue, which are too loud click's. And Red which are too soft.
Ive gone back to the old 99's keyboards.

dont know about the rings. besides that, not at all. i just moved to red, now i have to learn new weapon bindings, because its so different. f.e. i cant use e-button, because i press it accidently when +foreward ing with w. that sux.

reds are nice cause the key travel is smooth and consistent. browns and blues have a slight bump because of the tactile feel. blacks are the same as reds just harder to press, so that's preference.

i play on a 10 dollar compaq old ass keyboard from 1998 and a 3 dollar mouse pad from staples with my razer abyssus


and i dodge like a pro and hit LG all day long
