How is Excession? Which of the Culture series books did you enjoy?

I've read up to Use of Weapons, and I'm unsure what if it's worth it to read on, which of the books are better for what kinds of tastes and so on.

I enjoyed them all, Excession my favourite due to it being centered around Minds (ships with incredible AI).

Player of Games is also excellent. And Consider Phlebas.

For me, the talk of societies was probably the most interesting part of the books. I'm just that much of a sociology / philosophy done in sci-fi nerd. Player of games had the most interesting dynamic, with me being a competitive gaming fan obviously.

The minds are very interesting, so I guess I'll read at least one more. Thanks for the tip. Some of the humor around the ships is brilliant.

Cypher worked his ass off to beat evil. Not to beat rapha or other player. He studied tons of his demos, he tried different adjustment and had constant practice against him for more than a year in competitive environment. Evil was the guy who was on a spotlight and was guy to beat. Of course he was studied and things are more difficult for him now.

I think his blowout on DH wasn't just because he met rapha, but mostly because he was completely out of zone. He had difficult matches against players he would normally just smash.

My money would be on Fraze if he could stay in Europe, but not sure if it's competitive enough in Oz for him to raise his game that high.

Cypher is just back at his top shape. He is in the same shape now as he was when he was seeing the matrix back in the Quake 3 era. He adjusted well to WMO, figured out a sens that lets him use all weapons with utmost accuracy. His aim and movement is at its best now.

It doesn't take much to realize that Cypher is the absolute best player in Quake history in such a shape. You can clearly see just by spectating him, his aim and movement is on another level.

Evil hasn't really changed one bit, he is still beating everyone hes supposed to beat. Evil a few months ago actually struggled more against K1llsen and Cooller, now he is beating them more convincingly.

The only difference here is that Cypher has reached his peak shape, and Cypher in peak shape destroys everyone and cant be touched, simple as that.

Cypher said in an interview at one point in Quake 3 he felt like no one could touch him, I think the time has come for him to say the same for Quake Live.

He surely is a beast in this form, but not untouchable.

Rapha showed some strong form, and beating rapha in the finals 3-2 is not a walkover, but the maps he won he did so nicely.

I just feel like Cypher struggles a big when it's not lan, when it's not against top guns. Seeing him in a lan final against rapha, it really felt he enjoyed it so much that he stepped up his game even more. It's a proper motivation, and he hates to play dem0n on maps like T7 where he often loses and complains about his stupid moves :)

Tox is honestly the most overrated player in Quake history. He has such a style that the only thing he is kinda impressing with is the lg, and even with that it is nothing too amazing. His aim is so praised but he gets completely out aimed against the top aimers.

His lg can be impressive in standard situations because he prepares his whole game for it. Its like the only thing he is thinking about is that his opponent is gonna move here and he has to do this and this to hit perfect lg, completely neglecting any other part of the game. That is why his timing sucks, he is completely concentrated on just lg in set up situations.

His rail is normal, his rockets are attrocious, and his movement is the worst movement I have seen from the top 10 players.

p0ni is a a better version of Toxjq If I dare to say that, and p0ni sucks.
Like p0ni I have seen Tox get completely outaimed by legit top aimers like Cyher, K1llsen, Evil.

If Tox changed his name and participated in QL tournmanets and no one knew who he was, no one would talk about his aim being impressive. However because he was known as an LG abuser in Quake 4, a game that really played to his style, not much brain required just control weapons aka lg and abuse it. He is raised to a status that he doesnt deserve.

Quake Live and Quake 3 are more balanced games and they are showing his weaknesses, and sad enough during past two years he hasnt changed his dna one bit as showed on the last dreamhack.

Cypher beating Evil 4-0 in the last 125 fps has nothing to do with a magical "key" or "figuring out" Evil or "adapting playstyle". Cypher just got better in everything. I'd say he's probably in the best form he's ever been. Watching that 125 fps final it's hard to see even where he could improve. (Evil played at a very high level as well btw.)
