Give Tera a try, it has by far the most dynamic and entertaining combat system, almost feels like real fighting instead of that usual select target and press 1-5 for different spells, you actually need to move a lot and dodge projectiles and various attacks.

Levelling is fun, doesn't take too long but still needs some grinding, quests tend to be somewhat different and aren't all based on fetching (kill 20 mobs then return for reward), PvP system is cool, mobs are often huge as fuck, landscapes are not dull


It's free so you can't lose anything and you can get really far without paying anything (as opposed to those perfect world games)

GW2 is imo very similar payable alternative.

Digging it, but the dog eat dog PVP is terrible. No factions, anybody fights anybody. Factions+open world pvp is the best formula ever created. Why the fuck every mmorpg is abandoning it?

Guild Wars 2 is a huge forward step to the genre. Watch Angry Joe's review. There is one huge problem, no end-game content. Action and fun is thrown in your face during the run to the top, but when you eventually get there, the cake is a lie. Where's the instances?

Someone wiser can respond who understands the terminology. ESO's combat is the most fun because it's more on-hand FPSy. In GW2 it's grander, more active version of wow I guess.

I really fucking loved DDO when it came out :O that game was awesome.

GW2 is a copycat of wow in that is an MMO. The gameplay experiences are vastly different. There are similar elements in both games, because really they just make sense in MMOs. GW2 tried to be a very different style, and it was great (for a time).

Lately I hear they've catered a bit to certain things, so it may become more homogenous in the long run, which sucks to hear.

Run exploration sites in null in cheap-ass ships. Low skill investment necessary, you learn the ropes while dodging gate camps and site parasites, develop a dscan spam reflex, discover how wonderful cloak is and what does it feel like when you're hauling back hundreds of mil worth of ISK with zero protection back to hisec through dangerous routes. c:

Also, PVE combat is boring as fuck unless you're doing combat sites in low/null/wh, if you want real EvE slaughter you need to be in a PVP crew.

Nothing can compare to Guild Wars 2 in the case of MMORPGs. Still, I got bored with it after about a year. Nevertheless, it was a good year and I definitely got my money's worth out of the game.

Yeah, GW2 is awesome if you love no endgame and absolutely no one to level wtih, which has been a problem since like 1-2 weeks after pre-release.

Preordered Elder Scrolls Online, been loving the beta (which is improving at a crazy rate; last changelog hnngh), can't wait for 30/03!

Guess what I like most about it, aside from being an Elder Scrolls game, is that it seems fine to play mostly solo (hate randoms or people who speedrun through everything and don't read shit) and seems more like an actual game than the numbers-über-alles spreadsheet crap most MMOers seem to have a hardon for. The Alliance vs. Alliance vs. Alliance PVP was really fun too.

I don't like GW2 design and lore is not interesting for me. Also, it got instances, battlegrounds and shit....

EvE with different setting + Wurm crafting + DFO combat.... will be a miracle.

Pirate of the Burning Sea is an awesome naval tab combat game.

It should be similar to Eve online, you have conquerable ports, every ports has its own resources and auctions, economic players can haul goods around to either build or sell higher somewhere else and we have port battles which are 40vs40 battle for a port.

There is also open sea pvp based on the level of piracy going on around the ports (which is raised by sinking ships of the nearest port). Built ships are lost upon defeat (or after all their durability points have been lost).

Pros :
- RvR (French vs British vs Spain vs Pirates)
- Open World
- Best Ship based combat ever done (similar to Sid Meier Pirate)
- Port Based Economy
- Ship of the lines are what we could consider the high end ships of the game, hard to make, but still easy to defeat if placed in a small battle with a maneuverable ship.
- Items have weight and ships have cargo capacity preventing players from hauling infinite resources all at once.
- Perishable loots (Ships and various loots are permanently lost on defeat)

The only issues are the following :
- Poor character combat
- Player base can somewhat feel low
- PvP can easily be avoided since they are mostly occuring in small areas of the map.
- Graphics are okay-ish, close-view ships model are great though.
- The game has been removed from Sony Station and is now owned by some of the previous developers, which have trouble keeping up with all the demands (official website is down, custom sails are temporarily off, etc)

Otherwise yeah, Tera is a good action RPG, probably one of the best out there. You have dodges, Blocks, Combos moves (although they are kind of redundant). Every players can declare themselves outlaw, which allow them to kill other player anywhere out of town, but also allow everyone to attack them without penalty, and most of the zone are open pvp. It has decent battleground and item enhancement although the item upgrade system is not as hardcore as dragon nest where failed upgrade has chance of destroying the item.

And that is pretty much where my list end, there isn't a lots of great mmorpg IMO.

i play molten wow occasionally, the pvp is pretty fun

and regnum is one of rare open world pvp/rvr (realm vs realm) mmos.

hmm The Elder Scrolls Online is quite good imo (tried beta). I mean quite good mmorpg, because not that good TES :P

sadly, the aiming feature is pure bullshit, still there is some kind of auto-targetting. Combat is a bit boring ;p optimalization is awesome. And at least it got more european design, not asian shit ;p
