gfx were nice, vertexlight ftw
plz no trolling crt users, it was 4:3 in a widescreen window this made me sad.
I liked the music.
decent plays for the most part but I disliked the cpm24 wallshots.

As a defrag enthusiast I really enjoyed the run at the end. Other than that, superb frags from CPMA as always, and the massacre :S

CPMA only allows you to capture up to 50fps. if i was using mme you would be right

Been a long, long time since I actually downloaded a movie. Heck, just the checking my d/l every couple of mins(took about 10) made me think of old days. ;)

To the movie: I don't play CPM, but, I can still appreciate the skill that it takes to play it well. I enjoyed the frags. I enjoyed the music. I enjoyed the defrag at the end. In fact, the defrag's music reminded me of f33l and I'll probably be watching that in a little bit(yeah, I know, scripted blah blah blah. don't care :P).

Overall, I give it 7.8/10 so I round up to 8! xD \o/ Nice job, hope you keep making them.

PS: on a side note: I, for one, would love to watch an entire defrag movie by you with the style of music that you used in this one during this movie's defrag at the end. Nice work!

Im really really bad at air rox. So i rarely hit em in QL.

In CPM (the few times ive played) I feel its easier.

If the enemy doesn't try to dodge your rocket, it's easier due to the faster rocket speed. But it's also a lot easier to dodge a rocket due to the air control mechanics.

I think the easiest airrockets are in VQ3.

It's an enjoyable movie but 10's should be reserved for movies with very high production value like The Contenders 2 and alike.

You dont make the rules how people rate, what should be 10s and what shouldnt. 10 doesnt have to mean high production value, 10 doesnt have to mean perfect, it means Must Watch material to one guy, and to the next it means it's better than Citizen Kane.

For me 10 is (near) perfect.

Funny that you started saying people rate however they want followed by saying a system that everyone should use lel.

To me the system depends on a lot of factors, such as what's being rated, then if it is going to be preference based or objective, if 10 will mean great, perfect (lets say 10 ever), special "it" factor (5) or the very best thing ever (only 1), etc.

I did not, i said what doesnt have to be the meaning of a 10 and what could be the meaning by listing different examples.
Your second mistake is assuming something like an objective rating exists.

Cpm is definitely much more enjoyable to watch

It was smooth, funny and had soul.

I'm just a bit sad the music was so chill and didn't allow for much syncing. It did go well with CPM though but it just felt like the music was just a backdrop.

Kicked and removed was commonly called "y7.avi" because the download file was called like that and it was first uploaded on YT/google videos with original y7.avi name.

i guess this deserves a full explanation seeing as many people are confused as to the origins of this movie:

we were neighbors, i was like 17 and ahx was 15, it was done by ahxnxa and me as an inside joke between us, a sort of a mockery of all the hyped "big" Q3 fragmovies, never meant to be published online. then after the success or claw & order i think ahx chatted with 8bitlobster or someone like that and showed him the movie and he thought it was good and that it should be published, so we gave him the OK to do so and it kinda exploded with huge unanticipated success.

the filename y7.avi as i recall is an abbreviation of why hate, or y h8 only typo'd on purpose. don't ask why.

kicked & removed comes from some of the abusive behavior that occurred in ca servers back then (being able to connect with multiple clients and sort of taking over the server by cv kicking and removing everyone and locking the teams)

another fun fact: the song at the end, I'm ready by kano, was found from DC++ after searching for mp3's by randomly smashing on the keyboard and seeing what comes up

Nice enough movie, but I'm getting depressed watching the lack of skill progress in cpm (and quake in general, I guess).

I mean no disrespect but apart from the quad pummels (which has been shown so many times before) there's no display of out of the ordinary skill. Some rather default airrockets at jumppads or on slowmoving targets, some shaft on airborne targets, some rail quickswitch kills, some average CTF quadruns (most of them pointless as they don't lead to a cap, just a moron spawnraping thinking he is awesome, while in reality he is wasting quad)...
Bleh... 90% of what's in the video happened on a daily basis in #cpmpickup 5 years ago.

Dunno why there's been no player skill progress? Fewer players? Old players stopped playing? New players just don't improve as fast since they lack proper opposition?

every ctf clip includes a flag. in the one you mentioned he is covering flag carrier w/ quad. yes skill-level is lower, but the game is still fun to play and the people for the most part are cool. why not make a lil movie?

It's a mistake to think that a single frag movie encapsulates everything about a community. Players like gaiia, hal9000, memphis and many other "new" players are quite good and doing stuff that's changing the way the game is played.

I think Tom made this movie in under 3 weeks and so there was probably not many demos submitted. Wait until 'The Contenders 3' comes out (which should have some very top notch stuff) and then reconsider your post.

Truth be told, I stopped following cpm and q3 around 2009 when I stopped playing, since the community was stagnant/dwindling in numbers. Some experienced players stopped playing, and while there were new players entering, they were simply years behind the old players. This meant the old players got bored, stopped playing, which caused other old players to stop playing. In pickups it got so bad that having a 4v4 match with 3 good players might as well be a 2v1. The new players literally didn't matter, pure cannon fodder.

Huge skill gap is a natural effect of high skill ceiling, and it gets extrapolated by the low number of players in cpm.

Which is probably also why NTF took over as the most popular gamemode. It's a much simpler and noob friendly mode that removes many gameplay elements, it's basically CA/RA3 of CTF. I just checked !month in #cpmpickup and NTF was the most played mode by far. NTF's popularity alone indicates the skill level in CPM is lower than it was years ago.

To my knowledge the cpm community never really mixed with the vq3 community, and certainly not the QL community, so why would any maps that gets released for QL have any effect on the cpm community?

The problem with your argument is that you are judging a community which you, self-admittedly, have not been apart of for 4-5 years and based on a single frag movie. How does that make sense at all?

The CPM community certainly has gone through some ups and downs. However, I can say honestly that the CPM community these days is much more vibrant than in the recent past. Perhaps the better way to judge the community would be to see all the various comps (newbie cups, duel cups, the recent Masters cup, HooneyMode cups, etc.) which have been happening quite regularly.

I like production value, but I can overlook the lack of it if the product is concise, and this thing has everything I love about frag movies - short, simple, to the point, quality music and most importantly, great frags. Exactly why I loved Noctis' TDM movie too.
