I've seen the schedule aaaand...

15 minutes for players to setup and pick maps then ready up ?

1 hour per game... All of this is way too tight a schedule and it doesn't have any buffer... I can't see this not going wild really.

If you've ever adminned or played in a lan environment, you'd know it's just not doable. 8 players are going to need more than 15 minutes to setup and/or 45 minutes to play their BO3 (pc issues, hardware issues, timeouts, gohan beeing thrown out of the event, overtimes...).

It's not bo3 though, the group phase is 2 maps only so a draw in maps is possible.

True it is tight, but last time it was planned with 30 mins between games and it felt more like 2 hours between games. So if regulated well I think it's managable and perhaps we can start 30 minutes early to get a bit of a break later on.

If every team takes a little responsibility and makes sure they are available to play at the given time, 15 minutes should be enough. Some games will end faster than others, so this should give some room to wiggle around.

I hope the players make sure to bring a USB stick or upload their software/cfg somewhere to access it quickly to avoid any delays. PC's should be fast enough to install everything within 5 minutes, where you have 10 minutes to load up Quake Live, join a teamspeak server and join the game server.

Anyway looking forward to it!

first had to wait for a whole minute at start for someone to touch a flag so pov changes from speccing lg to a player, then while people are capping pov is on different players and in the end no caster. also, def povs for quite a long time.

There's so many reasons to hate QL and you pick the most retarded made up argument in favor of Q3. Seriously?

Not anyone can say it is not bloody annoying having to take all those steps and personal contacts in order to just host a lan. The general public correctly believes QL does not have lan support.

Furthermore, the general rule is that in practice still QL lan servers do require internet connection because of the interface. This has only one known exception which is quakecon, mind you that was ruled out when I told you to to provide one concrete example in which they used your solution of not needing internet connection at all. Still haven't provided one case used in 6 years of this game, was it really a solution then? was it really applied?

But if anyone tries to use that as a "let's go back to Q3" argument, he's a moron.

I never said "let's go back to Q3" nor implied it. As I said you are arguing with yourself here, for some reason (i call polish existential void).

All the rest are things that you added and are not the reason why all QL lans always have problems with servers that go beyond the usual from other games. The specific problems with QL lan servers are because of all these personal contacts needed in order to make them work (id auth) and as a second point that the 99,999% rule is they need the online interface to work (except quakecon2012 and that's it), both which are bloody annoying, steps that shouldn't be necessary, that were not the case in Q3 and aren't in other games and that are why not all QL lans are actually played on lan servers. That's it.


If you want this to go into the offtopic that is Q3 against QL route, you have to admit Q3 had the edge in some aspects. The q3 tryhards do have some valid points, no matter I don't personally support that position. Examples are content (100 times more), more polished mods (the usual ra3 against ca), less troublesome after installing the game, and most importantly lack of limitations in which in QL there are for everything because it is centralized and because of the unintuitive and uninviting business model (lack of lan support, no different account types and different privileges on different server types, can't host personal servers from home, long etc.).
So with that said, I encourage you to try q3 now no matter you didn't back when it was active, in order to understand the context and to understand the position of those people that you dislike. In the end they miss the freedom q3 had, for instance in hosting lans whenever they wanted to and without relying on anyone or anything.

The game server can be firewalled as much as you want. You only need to let sponge in and let the game server send game info to id.

The server doesn't even need a routable IP...

So yeah, blame QL more.

it was a great event. Neyek and razorx deserves a big community hug.

I also especially want to thank calipt, solar blad3 xtro and impulse, headz dem0n naity. Being crushed that way - ye we got screwed badly, but, hmm, kind of in a good way - made me see how good you can be as a team. I'ts not like being beaten badly online. Truely inspiring. I just wish there was a true div 2, the gap is so big between the best and the rest right now.

Events like this show that the players and people involved within the Quake community are a really nice bunch that can make a couple days of playing the game into an allround weekend full of drinks, good talk, nice games and having a good time together hanging out.

I really had a good time these two days and I have a lot of respect for everyone involved this weekend, especially the two organizers; Razorx and Neyek.

Great games and hope to see old faces and new ones at the, possible, next event! :-)

Was a great event again as are all community driven lan tournaments like these. I am always looking forward to the next one(s) ofcourse. Discovering new faces behind nicks you know for years (sometimes decades) is always special and great fun. I want to give a special thanks to drejk who's easily one of the nicest quake fan I've had the chance to meet irl. Thanks for the iyama 454 CRT and the icemat dude ;) (I dont have that cable that headz was moaning about and tomorrow all shops will be closed probably because of easter but ohwell, raep can wait a couple more days :D).

GGs to expendables and all of the teams that participated. I think I'm going to watch the vods comfortably at home this evening before heading to bed (yeaaaah).

BTW, drugs & porn won the party battle by staying up the latest, piling up those beers like champions and having headz make us discover that he can indeed fart at will by sucking up air through his ass. That was neat. I think that last bottle of jack daniels was one too many though.
