If it is a 7 mapper I'd remove cure and add ztn instead, as it is surely a must (the quintessential and by far most played duel map), makes the map list more neutral and both players are likely to be better on it instead of on the new map. Plus it has to be said I personally dislike cure :P

If it is a 9 mapper (pretty please) I'd like to see that change plus adding aerowalk (strenx pick but must really) and something else, maybe voted by the community out of every duel map used on QL LANs so far (set up a big esr poll for that). I much prefer this option, showmatch can take two days too.

Things I would like to see.

+ minimal specs on servers.

+ 15 minute time limit. (why not do this properly?)

+ 10 map game across 5 maps across two days.
Each of the 5 maps is played twice on different days to make sure if someone is having a bad day, they can redeem themselves with no excuses.

+ Players have to record themselves playing to see any rage, or commentary between or during games. camera can be behind them, or even just on screen, as long as it captures the ambiance.

+Players get to choose their best two maps. Community gets to vote on a 3rd to ensure 5 separate maps. ZTN/DM6 etc.

Do that, stick it on a nice website with a donate button with money shared between players and organizers = success!

You didn't get my point: the problem I have with this is that they had already agreed to do this showmatch beforehand. I think it would be better to keep that money for the purpose of motivating players to play. They already had that motivation as far as I know.

Wouldn't it have been better to keep that money for, say, have voo and stermy comeback for a showmatch ? Surely it's a nice incentive if they get that extra little money (which I would expect to end up eventually with more than 15$ per map).

Or hell, keep it for different and funnier things: king of the hills, one map cups, amateur cups...

I agree that the prizemoney for this showmatch was too high. They should've capped the prizemoney at, let's say, $25/map, and used the rest for the 125fps cup, LAN, ...

People can donate to whatever they want: we donators have the choice, not the complainers.

I can personally say I wouldn't have wanted my money to be distributed because some people found overall funds to be excessive for one match, because I donated to this in particular and not to anything else. Probably will donate the same or more for cooller-strenx 2, still won't buy a pro account or save africa.

In this specific case in the end this great community response means the community wanted to watch this cooller-stenx showmatch more than other stuff going on and more than previous showmatches. If anything I was surprised the money amount was this low. It also was the case viewers-wise, with probably the peak zoot ever had besides occasions on frontpage.

The same goes to cup organization and to people disagreeing with specific rules or specific match ups not happening: the organizers and the showmatch's players decide, not the rest.

If you disagree and/or want different cups, leagues and showmatches to happen and them to have more funding, then organize them yourself and donate yourself to them. Want stermy to come back? Well you host the match (it's not easy) and well you fund it.


As for what demon wrote, I remember reading a similar post wrote by twister. I think they don't get that they are not the stars of the show, at least right now, and that the vast majority of people is interested in certain names and in certain events such as a cooller showmatch or as dreamhack finals, not on watching demon in faceit #355. That interest is shown in prize money as well. Sad (for him) but true.
And using this opportunity, I more or less dislike how him, ins and other players redeem syncerror's tokens that are meant for new players to use, join small tournaments just to win and try to convince the community into pretty much funding them via us funding tournaments they will win or grab some of the prize pool, despite that not being what should be done. They should leave them to those new players and promote what should be done instead of trying to take personal advantages that in the end kill the game and the community. Oh yeah want specific examples? yesterday at the showmatch, tastyspleen, weekly faceit tournaments, distribution of donations for dreamhack winter 2013.

My 'frustration' lies here: I find it a pity that the community can produce this kind of cash for such a small ONLINE event, whereas we have very little LAN tournaments to look forward to. I mean, the scene is really doing good, loads of cups, loads of coverage, loads of new talents, loads of cash going around to motivate the players. I love every bit of it. But why doesn't this activity translate to more big LAN tournaments?

The last showmatch inactive strenx(this is about quake though, he was really playing a lot of shootmania) won active evil in bo7 who was winning every cup prior to that

I'm a Cooller fanboi, but Strenx is going to win this.

I would contribute if I felt like they were both in shape.

Really this is just gonna be like some fat retired NFL players lumbering into a wrestling ring with socker boppers gloves on.

in fact, strenx won 3 matches in a row vs cypher yesterday without a single loss
must be strenx got a lot of practicing in a parallel universe in the meantime

cooller lost in semis in the last 125fps, 3-2 in the second part of the last map. In the last cup (q3god) he eliminated cypher and is the current tdm lan champion.
It's safe to say he is top3 EU that can challenge evil and cypher to the point of beating them, as he has very recently.

strenx is the biggest online hero ever in quake and every time he returns for a while he beats everyone, evil and cypher included (the current top2).
He's one of the very few former 'pros' in quake, as in dedicating themselves to that. Can't be more than 10 ever and right now there's none.

Pretty much the only EU match that can be of a higher level is evil-cypher, and not by much. If cooller and strenx played a lan they would get to the top4 and maybe to the final (if rapha doesnt attend).

And above all that there's the fact this is the biggest grudge match in quake and that we'll see maps that we don't everyday.

I'm very excited for this, I've bet on Strenx 4-3. Here are my picks per map:

Campgrounds: Cooller; Cooller has better control, and although Strenx likes dm6, he's good on it because of his offensive capabilities, and will struggle more so than Cooller out of control on it
Vertical Vengeance: Strenx, slight edge
House of Decay: Strenx, I feel like his offence will let him run this map better
Furious Heights: Cooller; I feel Cooller controls this map better, and Strenx has said on stream that he's not that good on t7 anymore.
Toxicity: Strenx; he's better on this map and has had better results than Cooller on it
Lost World: Strenx. both have had good results on here, including vs each other; Strenx slight edge.
Cure: Cooller; he seems pretty good here, and knows Cure better than Strenx

strenx all times whining, seriously annoying, we are all sorry you play with wifi but no need to repeat it constantly, having a proper connection is part of being a proper player too. The interview afterwards was lovely and heartwarming. I really think cooller meant it when he said he wants to have strenx competing again. Just goes to show they have tons of respect for each other.
And thinking of it, despite all strenx' whining and lame behavior in the past, I genuinely think he's a good guy. It's just that when competition comes into play he really can get annoyed and then starts talking nonsense.
