I had duel games already from the week I found the problem, and it was a day or so after trying to update, playing some more, then forcing an update on IRC before it finally worked after some hours.

This group is more mixed either haven't cared to attend lans or play 100 percent seriously in QL duel scene or are from a region that doesn't get much representation

Aside from 1 or 2 out of place I think ELO is highly accurate at the very top but the middle of the spectrum just seems like too much of a jumble when you consider regions and every thing else.

Oops also apologize for missing Cooller for as overrated as he is his elo here underrates him he is better than that so he is also out of place and should be closer to that first group.

Hes a beast I think if he lived in Europe full time he would have had a lan win at some point or been very competitive and reached a final or two, It is extremely hard to win a lan in QL Rapha/Cypher are just so strong. I think we have about 5-8 people who could win a lan if Rapha/Cypher weren't so dominant, 5-8 is being favorable its mainly guys like strenx/fraze/spart1e(not sure if he won a lan or not) Dahang too since hes only won a USA lan but it was a very high quality lan win IMO, Dahang is just proof how hard it is to win these things. When you can be argued as a top 5 dueler and you haven't won an international lan it speaks more to the dominance of Rapha/Cypher.

But you look at Michael Jordan you do not look down upon his peers just because they never won a ring, a lot of them had championship ability they just played in the wrong era. So I think their is a group of Duelers in the QL scene who shouldn't be overlooked just for not having won a major lan. Fraze has definitely separated him self into that upper echelon where strenx was he just has unfortunate circumstances about where he lives.

So Yes I understand where you are coming from because winning a major lan in QL is an extremely exclusive club, but Fraze is legit.

If you only count major lans no he does not but that revolves around his location not his ability. If he went to as many lans as Strenx I am pretty certain he would have had at least one grand final appearance. Of course it is all what ifs and speculation and I've said every thing as my opinion not as facts.

Of course it is more than one match or one win but the way he soundly beat k1llsen in his show match was a big deal to me as far as judging Fraze, it is not easy to beat a top player when money is on the line and it is 7 maps, K1llsen has been up and down of course and that is another thing that has impressed be about Fraze he is very consistent online much like (strenx), he is not a guy who is peaking at the right time to upset a top player here and there, which is sort of where dem0n is dem0n can peak extremely high and then he has very low valleys, he needs to work on his consistency and he would be in that upper area.

Yes and if I started duel at 14 instead of 21 like every other top duel player (cooller, avek, cypher, strenx....) I'd have probably won a lan too.

If vo0 had been more focused on ql he'd have snatched a few lans too.

The difference is those players chose their own paths, Fraze circumstances weren't by choice, all those players you listed live in Europe why aren't they showing up at lans if they are so confident? You can't judge Fraze off of the results of one lan, he doesn't get the same chances all those European players get.

Also I put tox in the top category, I would put vo0 too but its once again his choice hes never taken QL 100 percent seriously.

About every lan you can say 3-4 people are going to win it with pretty much 99 percent accuracy, Fraze is in the category right behind those 3-4 If every thing goes right they could win a Lan, and this is a small group its not 3-4 and the rest, its 3-4 (locks) 3-4 (could win if things go right) then the rest, and its not a negative to be the "rest" at a lan being a lan quality dueler is a high achievement in its self IMO a guy who can be competitive in every game and maybe not even win a single map.

Its just my opinion I'm not declaring Fraze the best ever this is QL you have to fantasize a bit because most of the prize money isn't even worth top players to attend a lan even those located in Europe.

I think his point is that fraze had the conditions to be the among the best but he isn't because he was unlucky, which is not a decision. If fraze was born in Europe or America, instead of somewhere with 5 players and no competition whatsoever, then he would have been an even better player and would have had access to sponsors. From what I remember he improved quite a lot in his short EU stay, so he does have a point.

No matter all these excuses, unluckyguy fraze did pretty well in EU. As far as I remember he almost defeated cypher on playoffs of a major lan, mind you the only lan he attended and this was before his EU stay. Furthermore at one time he was one of the best online players there.

Since you are comparing yourself with him, on one hand you have plenty of years of quake experience in the land of quake. Cypher and rapha became the best with that same amount of time played or less, so it is more than enough and therefore not an excuse for yourself. On the other fraze has at most two months there, and in that time -deservedly or not- fraze got the same or more hype and fans than you do after years of trying. Fantasizing a bit, fraze is closer to getting sponsored than you, twister and many others are, mind you in a fraction of time spent and under much harder conditions; all because fraze shows more potential.

Though of course that discussion is irrelevant in an activity entirely dominated by two players, cypher and rapha, in such fashion that the rest don't really matter much. Even with what evil has done so far his future prospect is only becoming "the best of the rest" (cooller, avek, killsen, etc.) if he wins 1 or 2 more major lans, nothing more. That is fraze's potential.

edit: btw that third paragraph comment about players being not at top shape when fraze was in EU is quite unfair. If anything right now 2014 is the very least competitive time quake ever had, since lots of top players are already retired, there's not a single 'pro' (playing all day) and no one is really striving to become the best because there's no major lans and sponsors anymore. It goes to the point that an inactive player returns for a while and immediately achieves top4 and top2 in the most important online cup (if not the only one that matters something, 125fps), because the overall level used to be higher in 2010-2011-2012.

Pretty much this, and I don't think I am overrating Fraze at all I basically gave him a 1 percent chance to win a lan if every thing went right, I think that is pretty realistic. Its not a knock on guys like strenx/fraze and the rest of Quake its just Rapha and Cypher are that good.

Ok let's go into that.

First of all, fraze has about twice my # of duels played since the release of qlranks. And there I'm assuming he doesn't fakenick (which we know for a fact he did when he was playing and playing and playing ever again vs his brother to practice, admitted by fraze himself). I don't have an alias, never had, never will have. He does, yet he still has almost twice my amount of duels played on his main account. I didn't play any duel before quakelive (maybe a couple here and there in q4 and late cpma).

Checking at my # of duels on quakelive, I have a total of 6.439 duels played. I don't abort games and rarely played against someone who did. So let's round it up to 7.000 duels.
Fraze has an amount of 10.208 duels played. We know he used fakes or still does. I think fraze never played any quake 3 or quake 4 right ? (have to be checked but pretty sure QL was his only game).

So all in all, he has played more duels than I ever did. The only point where we can agree on, is that I probably have more opponents to play against, but that's a very relative factor. It's not like I only played the likes of cypher or cooller in my career. Likewise, getting stomped 40-0 in early phase of skill development means shit and that we can agree on aswell I think.

What lan are you talking about ? He lost to spart1e in 1/8th of final of dreamhack. It was not cypher. Stop exaggerating. I'll make the same observation as I did for supermario2k: you're fantasizing here.

Finally, you are assuming I ever had the intention to become the best duel player in the world. Fact is I'm first and foremost a team player. My only goal was/is to be good in all aspects of quake, which I'd summarize as CTF, TDM and DUEL. the later beeing a gamemode I only started to play around 2009 and for which I had little interest other than having fun against teamates or beeing able to test myself in a few occasions.

For those who don't know, I played on 60hz until 2012 and on 125hz mouse until 2013. Yes I might have less potential, or maybe not, who knows, but I never really put all the chances into the same bag either.


Given all these factors, I think you're either exaggerating fraze's potential or underrating mine and those of plenty others, just because he is from Austria (pun intended). Rapha pretty much only has dahang to play with as sparring partner and he's racking up the titles/finals like picking up easter eggs in a kindergarden's backyard.

I don't see myself as set in stone either, I still look to improve and I probably still have a couple of chances along my way to prove my worth.

The rest is all subject to opinion I guess.

Fraze never got to play the game in a competitive environment and still got to a very high level. Improving when there's no one to compete with is way more difficult than when there is, so 60,000 duels in australia being in top place by far is not the same as 6,000 where there's always someone better or as good.

Then in the sole instance he got the chance of playing online for a while he progressed into becoming someone memorable because of his play. Very few are in quake, like that will be remembered in 10 years

1. is the difference between 7k and 10k duels really crucial?
2. Do the years of experience really matter that much? Almost all known players got to the top (win a major lan, or second place) with less years of playtime than what you and fraze have, including rapha, cypher, cooller, avek, strenx, etc. etc. Of course now they have dozens of thousands of duels, but they didn't when they were at the top.

Caring about your "gaming career" and comparisons is caring :P. Participating in every cup, having goals and spending thousands of hours into something is caring. That's why I don't really buy the excuse of "yeah I don't care about the game (though I am at high level and put more hours into this than professionals do)". Some do care more than others, but not caring at all at that level or saying "I could have been the best if I wanted to" that I don't buy.

Where did I say I never cared ? When I'm playing a faceit I'm disappointed to lose. I always try my best in the heat of the moment and I do try to get a little warmup or some practice here and there. But I never thought I had it in me to be the best player or amongst the top5 elite.

My point is: I think a lot of players share the same kind of level nowadays and it all comes down to having something special, that little plus that the other players don't have. That, rapha, cypher, cooller... they all have it. I don't think fraze has it, nor do I. And the argument that fraze is confined in Australia is about as cheap as whatever I might have said. That was my point.

You know for a fact now that there are good players in Australia to play against, as there are aswell in South Africa (detrony, ph4ntom...) so to say those wouldve been 2x better had they been able to practice vs twister, calipt or bodzo instead is a bit of a bad excuse aswell.

If I wanted to be the best I probably need to work harder. Cypher, evil, pavel, agent... what the hell even tox they all have significantly more duels played than I have. Fazz has been active for 1 or 2 months for that dreamhack and was inactive as fuck for so long yet he still has almost the same amount of duels played than I have on qlranks.

If you really want to make a fair comparison maybe you should take that into account, not just the faraway factor :D.

I wish it could happen I would love to see both of you at QCON, do you have some personal problem with Fraze you seem to have taken it as an insult to your own gameplay just for people giving Fraze some props. I don't have any thing bad to say about you you are also a player I enjoy seeing play and like I said earlier if you become more consistent you would be right up there, all players develop at different rates nothing wrong with being a late bloomer. You don't have to prove any thing to any one in Quake especially someone like me. You have done a lot in Quake I am not overlooking your talent dem0n.

You are very much appreciated in this community and all the players like your self and baksteen who kept showing up and finally breaking through we all cheered with you, we want that to happen on an even larger level with Fraze. And yes, I always have seen myself as a very slow learner. and I have never stopped improving. The thing is, quake is also a lot about what's up in your head.

I may be a slow learner but when I think about it, how many players of my caliber have played as little games as I have ? The thing is, megaman3 tends to diminish the influence of practice practice practice, I don't really know why. Yes indeed, 7k duels or 12k duels in a lifetime has to make a difference. Atleast that's my opinion.

Toxjq never (or hardly) plays any top duel player when he practises his duel. He doesn't even fucking play a proper game. He just looks at patterns.

Toxjq's biggest practice partner is drejk. He's good but that's not exactly cypher yet.


But let's drop this subject. I want to thank you for those kind words. There has always been kind of an healthy rivalry between fraze and me ;). You know, fraze and camma they both practised their life out for the winter 2013 dreamhack. And there, not only did I go to quarterfinals (one step above fraze), I also beat him on stage with a 3-1 victory. I was also the only guy in my group to take a map from tox (who, I dont know why, kind of collapsed during the playoffs). And when we went to the afterparty with most of the quakers at dreamhack, camma talked to me and said fraze was better than me and it's because of luck or lack of experience or whatever bullshit he gave me there. So that may be why I'm sensitive to such comments about fraze. But I still love those aussies. Yeah, call that healthy rivalry. He thinks he's better than me, I think we're on the same level but my slightly bigger experience on lan gave me the edge.

I think you're being a bit pedantic. I think it's a pretty reasonable to suggest that if Fraze lived in Europe, where he would have had; the the ability to play against diverse range of high skill players; where attending LANs would be considerably cheaper than flying from Australia; where he could compete in weekly online tournament, that he could play at a higher level then he does now. I'm not saying this is guaranteed, but it's reasonable.

You can be very good online, that doesn't make you a lan hero. There's a world of difference between consistently beating players the caliber of cypher, avek, rapha, cooller, dahang, etc. (and on LAN) than to beat those players online once in a while.

You're right, you can be amazing online, and still never win a lan, however, I don't think that's the argument I'm making. I'm sorry, I don't know who burnedd is, but I assume he's a player that fits the above description.

I think it's more that to become good at quake, you need to be able to practice, and to practice, you need partners, and if you're intent on being good then you also need good partners. The cheapest, and most convenient way to do this is to play online, and playing in a highly competitive region will give you a better understand of where you "fit" in the scheme of things. In general, this sort of environment is more conducive for achieving your initial task.

I would also add, that his location, and that he's a young guy who might not be able to afford such expenses for a hobby, make it very difficult for him to get meaningful lan experience -- and that's not something to take lightly. You're right that lan, and online are different, but you need the opportunity to develop in that sort of environment.

Hey, a suggestion for the duel compare pages: Would it be possible to also show the actual Elo. imo thats more useful than the world ranking #.

Additionally, can the names be made clickable, so you can go to the player profile and check out additional stats?

It's a bit of a shame with the navigation on the site right now. I'm only able to make my way around the site by actually typing the URL-path directly in. That shouldn't be necessary.

Requesting a way to switch gametypes for a given player. As it is now, you can either edit the URL or do another search in a new gametype.

I would love to see map stats for each player. E.g. When I'm on my profile and click on silence I want to see how man wins/losses, maybe acc and other stats for that particular map.nhighest wins/losses, most played against which opponent etc.
