expanded universe was officially killed last week by lucas film. all the eu stories and shit are now officially 'star wars legends' and this is gonna be something new in official continuity which is only 6 films.

no: I mean the official canon is only the episodes 1-6 now. everything else: comic books, games, novels that was the eu is dropped from the main continuity. at least at the moment. not sure about clone wars and rebels but who gives a fuck

I don't see a single promising thing about this. Old washed up actors from the original movies purely to cash in on nostalgia. When was the last time Harrison Ford was in a good movie he lacks the charm he had when he was young. Han Solo was a fucking rouge, a badass, rebel etc etc. Seeing Han Solo as an old man will be just as exciting as seeing him as an old Indiana Jones (not at all exciting). The rest of the original trio are absolutely void.

JJ Abrams is good at making Michael Bay type action movies nothing more. Yeah if you want to watch a passable quality action flick then pick a JJ Abrams movie. Is it what you want your star wars to be? Doubt it.

And Star Wars was killed long time ago. They murdered it so bad that they could not even let the old movies untouched. They had to renumber them to make way for the new ones. They even remastered them by taking a large rotting turd on them. Point is if you murder something so bad then just have the fucking decency to let it rot in peace in the shallow grave it sleeps.

They brought on Andy Serkis to make Jar Jar Binks better.

After a recent viewing I found the prequel triology to be acceptable in the star wars universe. Obviously it could have been better without the stupid rom-com, jarjar, midchlorians and bad f/x, but overall it adds to the depth of that epic story that was told 40 years ago.

About JJ Abrams, yes his vision is somewhat plastic, but I've enjoyed all of his work thourogly since ALIAS was on TV. To the haters: please watch Super 8, it's shows how beautiful his story-telling can look like.

I remember watching star wars IV, V, VI over and over and over again in VHS and I was literally captivated by this movie. I remember loving the new star wars aswell. And after watching the old star wars again not so long ago, I must say this whole classical trend that you have to hate the newschool shit and love the oldschool shit to sound cool is beyond me.

I think there are many flaws in the original trilogy and it hasn't aged THAT well. For nostalgia's sake, it's still awesome. But oh my god I can not watch an old trilogy's light saber fight without feeling depressed at how slow and predictable their movements are. It just doesn't add to the whole "superhuman" myth that the jedi are supposed to be. That beeing said, the way Sidious raped the 3 acolytes of Windu in Revenge of the Sith looked like papercrap.

Let's make this thread more interesting with an old fan debate: did Palpatine plan losing to Windu to turn Anakin or did Windu indeed outfight Sidious and the latter was just monstruously lucky with the timing of Anakin's entrance ?

To some George Lucas clearly said that Mace Windu had overpowered Sidious for many reasons. The Vaapad, the fact that Windu was hands down the best saber duellist of his era and one of the best of all time, the draw but not really a draw because Windu induced fear of dying into Sidious etc.

In my opinion Sidious made it happen, but it was still a gamble. Sidious has had there the fight of his life. Never ever before or ever again did he encounter such difficulties.

Windu deserves some credit. He has a lot of advantage going his way. Sidious was certainly the most powerful one in the force and the most trickery. In combat, he's probably even better than Windu, but Windu isn't an amateur and, on top of that, uses the most efficient lightsaber technique against a dark side practitioner.

Light saber fights were for me never about the perfect choreography. It was about the characters. Sometimes you could see Darth Vader and Luke fight in a composed manner. sometimes when Vader's bantz got to Luke he would go full berserk and just bash him violently with his saber. Perfectly choreographed fights are emotionless and convey so much less than the original 'boring' ones.

I like the fact that they showed the technical mastery of the lightsaber that the Jedi and Sith Lords were capable of, but they largely missed the psychological aspects of the duels which were so interesting in the original trilogy.

Not in general. You could have good choreography to convey a deeper meaning but in SW prequels it was- look at all the shiny things. Aren't they nice and shiny? Look!

I'm not saying they should be going full DBZ mode but looking back at the fights between Vador and Luke or Vador and Obi Wan it feels like they'd get raped by any average swordman, and that's why it feels weird to me now.

if not for the complete mockery that abrams made out of the last star trek movie i'd be hopeful. imho him and his associates are the biggest threat to the film quality and not disney as many people fear (who are proving their respect to the source material and doing a fine job with marvel universe). oh yeah: as far as I'm concerned - prequels don't exist.

As far as I know, the prequels were written/thoughtof at the same time, if not before the IV, V, VI so SUCK IT :DD.

BTW. I'm not really a die hard fan of star trek (far from it, I had a vague idea of the whole star trek universe even) but the movies didn't feel too bad at all. What went wrong with it ?

I'm not a fan of star trek either, but I enjoy myself a good sci-fi flick. and the new trek movie fails to deliver. stupid plot, crappy khan usage and references to the franchise, admiral robocop (rlm represent), and complete disregard for rodenberry's original values which is not a deal breaker, but could help the movie stand out in a positive manner. and all the evidence suggests that prequels weren't written at the same time as the eps 4-6. originally nothing apart from new hope was conceived, and all the lucas 'I planned it all along!' bs is laughable:) yes I'm a nerd:)
