all top tier tdm players average 35% over ALL weapons in a match.

Mid- / high-skill FFA also avrg. 40-40+ overall acc / game most of the time.

Dude I´m not saying that averaging 35% LG is cheating. I´m saying that hitting the SAME ACCURACY every round is not easy. Every fucking round I saw him have EXACTLY 38 % LG.

arent there some serial number tied to your connection that makes you easily indentifiable online?

the serial number in Q3 worked (until the auth server died), because you had to pay for it.

what would generate that serial number now? - creating an account would, and doing that is free, that's the problem. so anyone that can get online doesn't lose a penny to create a new account.

tie it to email? - email auth is totally pointless, open 1000's of accounts free in minutes.

hardware ids just get spoofed.

also bear in mind QL really, really, really don't want to require administrative rights in order to set up an account or play.

i was referring to ips, which seems have worked to banned people in the past. also remembered banning people in ql is pointless, and therefor so is this discussion. guess conceding quakelives protocol without consequence is the best you can offer

IP bans are absolutely the least effective.

IPs aren't static for many people in the first place.
For anyone on fixed they can normally call up and get them changed.
For anyone else there are other means, but they can make gameplay suck, at least that puts off many but the most ardent griefer.

Are you suggesting that once an account is associated with an IP address, no other account may ever be used from that IP address? Whatever is done, it will also be harmful to some legit people who just want to play. It's a tricky situation.

no, just ban people that share 10 accounts on one ip. its understandable that the common cheater wont mind creating new ones constantly, but someone whos invested in the game wont have the same appriciation. seems easy enough for the ql staff to detect that a player is evading a ban so im just guessing theres some method to it. i think its even stated in some agreement somwhere that players can use more than 2 different accounts, its just that the implentations seems very selective

But they probably won't go through that effort knowing how easy it is to evade the ban anyway. That said, it would make it harder to manage a main account (and keep it) on top of the smurfs so maybe it could work reasonably well.

Mac addresses being the worst, even in Windows you can change it yourself in the driver properties usually, no 3rd party tools required at all.

I guess sacrificing those players could be a reasonable decision. I'm not sure that the problems created by "smurfs" is actually worse than that big non-home-players ban though.

or you could just ask them whats going on. sure a few will slip through the cracks. no system ever will be foolproof, just like locking up my bike when i go to the grocery story doesnt do much to protect it
