It's not about "Giving them exposure", since they're 1000x more famous than Quake Live is, it's more about goodwill. Intel is sponsoring Quakecon, so how bad can they really be?

They make so much money a year, those peanuts for the Qcon they won't even notice. Still, they don't have to do shit about this. It's a very nice gesture, and putting out a map is really cool, instead of just putting in money, as the map actually has some interesting changes.

Doesn't that propose a problem with ANY of the existing maps in the pool, which might advertise Maverick Servers? After all they may have a relationship with id Software, but as far as I know they do not sponsor 125fps...

who the fuck cares what is on the textures... that doesnt affect gameplay at all..

the gameplay elements that are actually added are good ones! dm6 is notorious for how hard it is to play out of control so the addition of the green armor plus an extra 25hp bubble on the YA side of the map are good changes that balance the map out with todays standards of duel maps

the wider doorways let you strafe around a bit easier and better movement/fluidity is something everybody always cries about wanting so its a good change to

both chaanges are great, who cares about the fucking intel logos etc it doesnt change how the map plays so stop crying

actually I've found THAT GA position useless, it happens that the player with control will always get it or at least can easily punish other player for picking it

The fun part about the GA is when someone like ins plays, shown in his map against noctis, he's out of control all the time, but runs past the GA, like 1cm, without ever picking up. Well done.

DM6 is an average looking map so the intel one is a good refresh, ztn is a masterpiece.

I played a few games yesterday, and the texture set, as well as geometry changes, are awful. The GA is a good improvement, of course... But blue MH on blue floor?

I disagree, the color theme is nice and different from any other played map, wider corridors and higher height of mid level ra area gives the map a less claustrophobic look. Blue MH on blue floor, 100% agreed, thought exactly the same when playing it first time yesterday.

I use higher intensity and overbright bits, which works to flatten things perfectly on every other map. This is the only map so far, that turns eye scorchingly white for me. The "claustrophobic" feel is perfect is for creating bottlenecks by which 'zones' are separated and making run-through harder. All the culkled ledges, fences, square pads, are unnecessary and distracting... Of course, some of this is subjective, but I do think there is an objective component to having smooth, uncomplicated geometry and textures, just like other sports arenas are simple and well lit.

Also, the GA did not seem enough. I had 3 blow-outs, each depended on initial spawning and take of control, and one of which I lost. I think switching RA to YA might not be a bad idea, but it's definitely better now.

you must love coldwar too then. took me forever to tweak my cfg to make everything look flat, contrast wise. its still very bright but at least the white is more grey ish now.

not even sure what i tweaked but it must have smt to do with overbrightbits 1 and smtsmt overbright limit set down to 100 (out of 250?)

Yeah, I find it harder to see the enemy in some angles because of that, like when trying to rail the enemy at RA from the corner above shards and others...

I agree that it's still a bit of an unforgiving map (although not nearly as much as the original), but wouldn't be Campgrounds if it wasn't.

Yeah, I don't mind the unforgiving nature too much, so that's why I probably like the previous version of campgrounds more right now. The reason they stopped using it at higher level is because it was pretty much impossible to break for otherwise even players, at the top level. Changes in QL spawns affected this considerably, making the losing player respawn constantly away from RA. I guess it remains to be seen how much GA helps with this lock-in at the high level.

Okay, so...

- The green is useless. Get rid of it pls.

- The retexture looks edgy, flashy and "cool" and all, but... I want dm6 back. My cfg makes my eyes bleed when on this intel-version and these minor architecture changes somehow annoy the hell out of me...

- Fuck yeah dem0n :D

The first thing is to acknowledge campgroundsIntel is even more unbalanced than regular dm6 is. After that the idea is to fix the regular dm6 issues as well, as least the one that breaks it.

I think what should be done is:
- Put the green armor closer to the shotgun spawn. Right now it benefits the player in control more so than the other, via straight up picking it or by punishing it really hard.
- Remove the new hp bubble near the rocket launcher, in that added ledge. The usual is that the player in control rocket jumps from RA to rocket but now he replenishes with that new bubble, making the map even more one sided than the regular version.
- Put the YA spawn (near jumppad) closer to the LG, in order to remove the initial spawn combos of it with one of the two problematic LG spawns (stairs and shards).
- Do something about mega visibility. I think the intel logo shouldn't be removed, in order to avoid issues with intel itself (this is an advertisement deal) and it does look really nice there.
- And add a cooller reference.

I can understand if a map maker does not have a clue about these things.

But FFS have a pro test the map first. How hard is that?

Of course the map maker thought about these things. Do you think they added the GA randomly? I agree with megaman on this one. Maybe put the GA right next to SG? I'd be curious to see some opionions from the pros on the issue.
As for the Intel logo, I had the exact same thought, altough I don't think it really matters gameplay wise. Maybe make the mega red or something :))

Red mega would be kinda rad.

I was thinking that there should maybe be a 50 hp bubble in a recess at the midpoint of the LG stairs. It would be quite a radical change tot he map dynamics, but it would definitely make it easier out of control and you would definitely have to go there intentionally outside the usual item cycle routines, so less likely to be picked up by the player in control... But I'm a nub at duel so I dunno how it would work out, There must be a reason no one has tried that after all these years...

I should do some stats on the probability of the person who gets the better spawn on lg (and a frag in the first ten seconds) of winning the whole duel.

In fact dem0n was just a monster to kick sequentially pavel, cypher and evil. Few would have done that except maybe evil and cypher themselves :P The bad was that dem0n had a time break too long waiting for his superfinal games to keep stable. Big respect to dem0n!
