Last week was the second time Spart1e got properly butchered by Evil in a FACEIT Sunday Cup Final. First time was back in Cup #18 (February 2013), when Spart1e forfeited after just 82 and 55 seconds on the 2nd and 3rd map respectively.

ofc not. that is why he always loses. by the time qcon comes ppl like rapha will have him all figured out. even so.. they might already have. he didnt really change his game since DHW and rapha read him like a freaking comic.

I feel like evil became a lot smarter, his out of control game isn't just rushing in with whatever weapon he finds near his spawn anymore, he tries to slow down and listen for sound cues, his timing looks better although not perfect

he created the monster (cypher until march) and instead of running away, he leveled up and beat him. he's become a bit cocky as of late but that's fine, that'll make for a good show once the serious games begin

until he ran into 50lg cypher and the 125fps final turned into a 4-0 lesson, even agent predicted a 4-0 or 4-1 for evil that day

right now, I feel like cypher is just getting by on his experience but can be challenged, a bit like the end of 2012. he'll lose against an in-form opponent surprising him (baksteen, dem0n and this season noctis or spart1e) but is overall number 2 behind evil. we'll have to wait and see if he starts bringing his A game and prove he can win when it matters most. that was his main motivation at dreamhack and that worked out pretty well for him (and credit to rapha for pushing such a dominant cypher to a tie breaker, but that's another story)

Cypher is not playing serious at all. His play style is so different right now from what he did on LAN. He just keeps rushing evil style when he is out of control and as mentioned he keeps getting by through experience and superior aim.
This is not his 100% LAN form. He is either trying not to give away everything wrt qcon or he just doesn't care about 100$ peanuts.

That, and also moment as in a single moment in the game that decides the winner. At the very top level you often see that (for example: the rocket from Rapha on dm13 which won him last QuakeCon).

Well I'm not sure. I think Rapha kind of has cypher figured out but also cannot keep up with his aim. Much like cooler has figured out evil or cypher has figured out evil but cypher has to be on top form to also beat evils aim, because brute force with superior accuracy can win a lot of times in QL (especially hits can weapons)

I'm sorry but I feel that in this discussion you guys are ignoring the lan vs online problem. Evil does thing that work online but don't in lan. He is experienced and can adapt to lan, but taking his dominance and transer it 1 to 1 is probably inaccurate.

im not expecting his dominance will transfer. he gets weaker, while cypher gets stronger. thats why i do belive they are 3 best players in the world... till avek comes and smashes their faces with his aggro retard style

The lans evil played he has proven that his playstyle works just fine. If I'm not mistaken he only ever lost to rapha in playoff games the last 3 lans he attended, defeating all europe players easily just as he does now online.

Generally I believe the 'true' skill shows online, where players can play with their ideal setup in full comfort. So maybe he does not win quakecon, maybe cypher manages to beat him there. But that wouldn't be proof to me that he was better all along or anything like that. Evil is clearly superior right now.

Is it really the same game? Isn't the weapon balance different in lan? Would that not affect styles in different ways? I'm saying this because when it comes to cypher and evil, a lot of battles are really down the few hp difference, despite the big implications they have on the rest of the match.

On ze lan some of the game balance changes. Defensive rockets are stronger which benefits rapha against evil, plasma shines creating some funny moments, etc. It's no coincidence that in Q3 and in QL the LG heavy players that are monsters online have never, ever been as dominanted on lan in duel as they 'should'.

As for the comfort aspect, I believe that what's important is winning when it matters, which in videogames it has to be on lan. Anyone can potentially hit a hole in one or be 6 under par: now do it at the US open when the pressure is on.

Lol. No. Zoot could never be compared to Joe. Joe honestly had no clue, even though his play by play was entertaining. Im often suprised by zoots game knowledge and his ability to integrate that into his casting. Zoots definitely a good dueler himself too. And i think his casting has become very smooth and funny over time. Big props to ddk as well cause u could say the same about him, yet he brings it in his own style.

2gd and joe were definitely good but i'd prefer zoot+ddk over them any time.

As far as I remember people only considered you a good player after everybody else left for Shootmania, you quit after they started to focus on Quake again.

sorry, i prefer knowledge and play by play+hype over play by play and a tiny bit more than play by play. its like watching the game with an echo of what just happened a second ago with too much of the latter.

for unconventional caster combos, 2gd+rapha would be insane, but the majority of spectators would probably get lost in their analitical awesomeness. this is also why zoot and ddk get seen as gods these days, imo. its just simpler ;p

Don't know if I would agree with that but zoot+ddk have gotten really good lately. Probably better than any other current casters in the scene right now.

Well tbh Cypher had Evil's number all day long, he was playing a very wise game doing almost no mistake whatsoever, sadly his LG was WAAAAAAAAAAY off yesterday and it basically cost him the first two maps.. if Litterally two situation per map go as they should, given Cypher's fighting skills, and it would have been a 3-0.

Yeah, well, that's often how I see Evil's games. He gets away with a lucky fight here and one there and suddenly he's won. I know it's not what he bases his game on, but take the Sinister game vs Cypher as an example, when Evil won the LG fight on Red platform with... 12 hp? Won the map.

ye but those fight started with cypher having like twice as much the stack of his opponent. For example the drop on Cure, he just needs to hit like 20% lg on average, catching his opponent watching somewhere else as well, and he fails to do so! If his aim was somewhere near his usual form instead of Agent's that'd be really a 3-0.
