You've got to admit though that those online "records" and lan performances don't seem to correlate too much. If you'd like to coin a better term that appropriately captures this observation, feel free.

The only guy who gives him a challenge online is cypher and the other guys are either retired or live across the ocean. So guess why he is so good online compared to lan.

Well, as already said, strenx has been dominating online cups (gdata, zotac) just the same for a while, with lots of stiff - aka non-retired - opposition around while underperforming on lan in comparison. So my brain likes to deduce that those two, online and lan, are two different beasts entirely. While also recalling what cooller rambled about the other day on stream, namely that lan is the thing that matters.

and a week later I was talking with Evil in QL. He approved, that he had some difficulties in getting his money, until then there were no publick messages about it.

I dont want any witch-hunt action and persecution of FaceIt, but it seems there is a problems, not everything is so smooth..

We paid him, there were some miscommunication between his manager, evil and myself regarding this. We understood he wanted to wait with the payment to gather some more funds and overall pay less of taxes, but in the end he didn't want to wait. We paid him as soon as this was cleared up.

Roy, you might also take into account that Agent doesn't dig much of an English and all that money transfer stuff, and he also isn't familiar with foreign prize payout systems - he always had his prize money payed to him on Russian LANs almost immediately and in cash.

If there a way that you could contact Ash (his buddy) first, and explain the actions Agent has to perform to redeem the dough - that would be awesome.

This Agent guy isn't much of a goodfella, for sure, he's a mean straight up and erect battle-mind machine, a bad motherfucker, if you like, but he's a big part of Quake - each time he's in - it's 10 times more fun and joy than anyone else, no matter the tier and stuff.

Yeah I guess there won't be anymore trivia from me. There's no point making statistics about player achievements when they are this heavily influenced by admin decisions.

I don't care about the Agent business, maybe he tried to redeem but the site wasn't working for him, maybe not. Anyway, Evil should have never won after losing two straight maps in the semis.

There was something like this back in Sunday Cup #21, when Sev3n beat Evil in the Ro16, but he forfeited the rest of the tournament, and admins actually wanted Evil to go through, but then changed their minds about it. Saying ash agreed to it doesn't justify it for me, especially because it took more than 30 mins for him "to agree".

It took a while because ash was trying to talk to agent to get back into it.

Anyways, as I previously mentioned I should have communicated with evil better and put this down as a showmatch. Unfortunately, I didn't realize the seriousness of the situation, because of several reason which I won't bother you with now (and I don't want to sound like making up excuses), but the situation is now as it is. I can't change it back.

I just want to say I'm here every Sunday with the best intentions, and run the QL Sunday Cup because I want to support QL. I have no intentions on "screwing anyone over", or "rig matches/brackets". If anyone else in the QL community wants to step up and help me run the cups, they are more than welcome.

There's a reason I wrote that and not "I guess I won't watch FACEIT anymore ". Because I'm not boycotting FACEIT, just don't feel like doing this thing anymore, which I mainly did for MYSELF as I love fun little stats. My trivia's always reflect on last week's happenings and I can't write about Evil making Sunday Cup history when he went out before that.

I would never abandon FACEIT and I'm greatful for them for all the cups they brought and I don't hold grudge against roychez or anything. He made a mistake, which he admitted right away and didn't try to sugercoat it. That's honorable. The trivia thing was just my own litte fun, which I feel pointless now. However one thing sounds weird, weird because either the situation is weird or because agent is. Why would he boycott this if he didn't have another choice to get his money? I mean he must have contacted faceit by mail or ask someone about him not getting the money, before acting like this.....right? Or is agent that stupid to not even contact or ask someone before doing a boycott? Do russians communicate between each other via talking or via screaming?

With that said, lets hypothetically put ourselves on agent's position (or what he says it is) and say somehow you didn't receive the message, or even did receive it and you failed to reply because of wanting to screw him over: how come agent didn't send an email before all this drama. It's so obvious. Furthermore he could have asked you today as he was playing today (obvious too), or asked ash to contact faceit, or if he really couldn't have contacted you by any way then post here on ESR or whatever so he could politely reach you, out of dozens of realistic choices instead of acting like a child.

Is it worth it to deal with a guy like that? I know it depends on each organizer's patience, but personally if I hosted cups I'd have added a "no agent" and "no cmss" rule years ago, both for playing and from chat (twitch and irc).

I kind of get the feeling it was the latter. I mean, if agent never did anything like this before that could mean something. But, he's got a well established reputation for being a diva. If I thought a company was legitimately trying to screw me over, I WOULDN'T PARTICIPATE IN THEIR EVENTS ANYMORE. And I would make sure I let as many people know about it as possible.

I understand wanting to provide a final for the specs, but you can't just arbitrarily pick one of the people who lost against agent and allow them to continue. It's unfair to everyone else who lost, and to the person waiting in the final. When the damage is done, sometimes you just have to accept it.

This is esports, a legit tournament, players and community take it seriously, if you start throwing in arbitrary stuff like this and don't follow the rules, the credibility of the whole tournament and platform suffers. ask yourself if this would be allowed on a legit football tournament or similar, if not, then don't do it, you can't throw in the guy again that lost semis, and let him win the tournament

If it was for the rules and legitimacy of tournaments you really should check out how soccer works :P, your example. Dozens to hundreds of cases way worse than this.

In the end what you have to understand is that in these extreme cases there's no correct, perfect solution. However, one of the better ones is to play the match. Another thing you have to understand is that there are no rules for everything: sometimes officials have to make a judgement on the fly and without anything to rely on, like in this case. Both situations just happen and no one wins.

It's hilarious how ungrateful some people are... FaceIt cups are free to watch and have provided hours upon hours of exciting tournament action. They've done an incredible job over the years to deliver quality streams and casting (notwithstanding the sometimes awful issues with Twitch). If there are a few mistakes made along the way, people should be understanding. Instead, there is just a lot of infantile whining happening.

I don't think Evil should get 1st place after losing in quarters but then again it was a decision by Ash to play a finals against Evil. That's more on Ash to agreeing to it than on the FaceIt admins.

Finally, this is clearly another instance where Agent's destructive attitude is harming the community. I personally think he should get permabanned from FaceIt. If he's permitted to continually disrupt tournaments where people are playing in good faith, it can only lead to more harm and abuse of the tournaments in the future.

Roychez, you should pay out Agent's winnings and permaban him. I also think other tournie organizers (Zoot and co) should also consider permabanning him as well.

You can help someone everyday carry his heavy bag, after 10 years if you don't do it one day they might hate you for that. That's people. What can you do...

By not banning him, they are making his behavior acceptable. He's repeatedly demonstrated unsportsmanlike behavior and continues to do things like this. He's been temporarily banned at least once (that I know of) but without banning him now, it is only going to ensure he continues to ruin everyone's enjoyment (players and spectators alike) of the FaceIt Sunday cups.

I hope that FACEIT and Agent come to an understanding, it would be a loss to this game if we saw a talent and even personality like Agent disappear. Love or hate him and his escapades, he still beat Evil today and did so convincingly. I enjoy watching the names of yesterday play Quake, they're what make Quake to me. Whilst we do need new blood, it's just not as interesting... but each to their own.

To me, I don't see any misunderstanding on Agent's side. He clearly has enough brain cells to play the game at a high level yet he cannot seem to figure out what's going on with his winnings? I find that hard to believe. Asking anyone else who has won a FaceIt cup or asking any of the admins about it would have been the most common sense response for a person in Agent's position.

Moreover, getting to the finals and then making a statement about it is possibly the LEAST productive way of solving any misunderstanding.

Agent, mostly, IS the show involved in any tourney he participates in. Forfeiting a match is NOT forbidden by any rules anywhere.
Call it whatever you want, spray your shit 360-non-stop, but through the bracket pov - it's just a forfeit.

The procedure to take on from that point might be needed to thought over, maybe include showmatches for 2nd prize in such cases, but in terms of entertainment it doesn't make the show any less fun and sexy.

One-hour searches for ping-friendly servers and loads of weakling arguments in console chat do much more damage to the show.

In context both reasons you named are just excuses. Quakecon wasn't the only tournament until 2014, you can save money in 15 years and here players were and are sponsored. He gets his fun by ruining cups just like cmss does, that's it.

Mate, the difficulties of attending to LANs abroad from Russia are sometimes make it unworthy or too resource-consuming to make an all-in.

A few Russians did attend foreign LANs, but those guys had (and have) pretty nicely money-loaded families (Cooller, Lexer), and others were just lucky to collect enough donations or support from sponsors (Evil even barely made it last year and probably had to return a good buck to those who loaned him the dough).
Some made a one-time all-in and got the idea that it's too money-consuming procedure for them, although all those events are damn cool places to be.

Furthermore - the situation with visas, travel expenses and stuff just got a tiny-tiny bit better in the past few years, but before that - it was a total pain in the ass, and one had to make the moves half-a-year (or more) before the abroad event to even have a non-zero chance of getting to a LAN.

(trivia: the average salary in Russia outside of Moscow these days is less than $1000, most likely around $500.

It's seems easier to get to EU from RF now, for sure, but again - non-Moscow dwellers are heavily restricted in their money stacks. Cooller is pretty much the only pro Russian Quaker who's problem of getting to LANs is not the money, but mostly time and his wife))).

Evil is around the Moscow region, but it seems that he has to work pretty hard to even pay his everyday expenses. As for cup winnings - do you expect a young man, sound in body and mind, to carefully collect his yearly winnings just to spend them for a chance to win at qcon?

I thought i had to blame everyone for that sunday cup decision making today...but i guess since even the admins admitted having done a mistake promoting evil to the final by custom, there is nothing to say more than thank you for all the effort your putting in those online tournaments and even dealing with criticism, which is an also very important talent, especially at days like this ;-)
As for agent, being the best player today beating evil and prolly also ash, its a shame that he had to throw it away for his political statement, but i have no right to decide who is correct in this case..i just hope that agent, being not banned, takes this certanly last chance for himself and plays another great final next week beating evil again.
For the rule - standings it is ash, agent, evil/cypher but for the skill standings it was agent, evil, ash/cypher and that is what we should hope for...really good games in the future of people that can put a challege to beat evil - thats also why agent should not be banned yet but it can definatly not happen ever again thats for sure...

Since you are very much new to this scene I'll explain something to you: 125fps and faceit indeed sponsor quake not for earning money but because they love the game.

Alexey loses over 10 thousand dollars a year in quake.
Faceit has more than 30k viewers in cs:go and at the same time they get money from selling skins there. In quake they get less than 10% of that and no money directly, so it'd be a better choice to drop quake and focus on cs:go instead. That cs:go money is what makes quake possible.
Quakecon/id lose at least 20 thousand dollars in prizes a year, which may be a minor expense compared to running the event in the quake part of it.

These kind of attitudes from players and from spectators make someone love the game less.

The reason why those two initiatives exist is what some of you new to the scene people didn't see, yet are so vocal: quake was 100% dead in 2012. That situation will happen if both cease to exist, with absolutely nothing going on in the whole year online and on lan, besides quakecon.

Side note: we are not doing any weeks the coming two weeks because we are "suspending" QL cups. We had ten cups planned for the QL Spring Season, which are finished now, but due to circumstances we can't stream coming weekend, as well as DHS being the one after. So we are doing the finals on the first possible date for us, which will be announced probably tomorrow or Tuesday.

You didn't do something that bad... sure, ash as a winner and a showmatch for 25$ between ash and evil was going to be the better decision, but it could be worse as no game at all. We still saw a good match at the end.

IMHO - there's a big difference between being kicked from the cup and forfeiting the match. If agent was kicked from the cup he could be replaced with another player - his opponent from previous stage.
But in case of him just forfeiting his game no replacements should take place. For example - 125fps kicked agent from quarterfinals of the may'14 league, because he refused to play his match just before it was supposed to begin, and if sev3n was online at that moment he could take his place. but - If agent just told me a day before he can't play this week (for any reasons) he would just get defloss and that would be it. no more.

Frankly, I'm not seeing any problem. Evil wouldn't want to insist that he won any final, would he.

From any logical point of view there is absolutely no reason to support Quake Live tournaments considering the viewership and overall playerbase. The only reason there is a FaceIt for Quake is because we have that passion for a game with the essential skills of what makes fps. It is because we don't wanna see a world where the only fps games being played is Call of Duty and Counter Strike. We want to keep that small light as small as it is for as long as we can because of general principles.

I agree we might sometimes be slow to payout. We're working on solutions, since Paypal blocks anyone who makes frequent transactions. And then it takes a few days/weeks to get unblocked.

To be honest I don't really mind about him. The only thing is that he constantly ruins community efforts, 125fps, faceit and qlranks for example all of which are quite expensive and taxing to run. Luckily he's been sanctioned many times in two of those and at this rate he probably won't be accepted anymore, which he rather deserves with his 'record'.
