Now the T&C says nothing about leaving tournaments, so quitting a tournament midway through is not a breach of contract. Because FACEIT is to determine the winners of a tournament they can freely remove him from his second place and they also have the right to prevent him from participating in future tournaments, but they can only seize his winnings if he does something that is forbidden in the T&C, for example, cheating.

I've been following these competitions for a few years and there have been so many times that Agent has caused problems it is quite unbelievable... The history Nico is asking for is hard to remember in detail but it usually involved being abusive to admins and/or players and ruining competitions by forfeiting in finals or semis etc. Nico and other admins have demonstrated the professional patience of saints over the years by trying to deal with him on a rational basis. Rather than permanently depriving us of seeing Agent play since he is after all a very good player, Nico has turned the latest drama into a positive outcome for the community whilst having an intelligent and light hearted dig at Agent. It is wholly appropriate, proportionate and professional to respond in such a mature and intelligent way to Agent's childish tantrums. Nico should be thanked for this and we should all enjoy the cup :)

I feel I didn't word my position quite correctly, mainly because I was slightly frustrated, at my day in general and the intense hypocrisy this thread represents. Yes, Agent absolutely ruins cups over and over again and trying to turn that into something positive is very admirable and obviously good for the community.

Here's where my problem lies: the people who are adamant about wanting to make the competitions more professional are the very same people who jump at every chance to absolutely rag on Agent (someone who I don't feel very strongly about one way or the other). Agent is a player and in a professional environment, the journalists (zoot) and the referees (Nico) would have to uphold standards of objectivity, impartiality and, optionally, stick to judging on a case by case basis. You only need to skim this thread to know that this is not the case.

As for the high on your ego comment, I personally feel that zLive and FaceIT are trying to force a certain (IMO rather weirdly defined and selective) professionalism on the Quake competitive scene. In order to do that, I feel to have to blind themselves from the reality of matters. One top player is rumored to make it to every other final high as a kite and he often ragequits in those finals halfway in. There are more 125fps games rescheduled than played on time. Almost every player has a record of ragequits, of forfeits or just saying 'ye I can't make it, so fuck it, you guys deal with it.' For the longest time, the casting was incredibly sub-par (I don't intend any offense towards zoot, ins, ddk or any other regular caster; they have all improved a lot since then). Look at the x@Qcon threads, 'pros' can't even find someone willing to give them 2000 bucks for an almost guaranteed (if partial) return. Look at what happened before last DHW, where half the line-up just decided they couldn't be arsed to play at the final moments. Look at TDM matches taking place without any but the players knowing because casters have to jump through a million hoops to find the games. In short: this scene is simply no longer professional. That died with all the lans. No amount of clock changes, picmip 0, stream overlays or bi-weekly speeches can change that. If you honestly believe that's not true, then I think you're delusional and overestimate your own influence by a mile and a half.

TL;DR: stop being hypocrites, stop trying to make Quake something it's not (anymore).

Since when is my job to be impartial? if I earning a salary from ESL, MLG, Dreamhack or whatever.. then yes I would be as impartial as possible. I might possibly even stick up for the guys I work for.

I'm free to express my opinion any way I like. I've been casting for about 4 years now.. and since Zotac days there have been countless occasions where Agent caused drama unnecessarily. At first I remained impartial. In fact.. for a long time I remained extremely impartial, trying to assume that there was logic behind his actions. Over the last 6-12 months, Agent's antics have continued. Guess what, the people who have to deal with him on a regular basis (let me tell you, the most stressful part about being a streamer/caster is having to rely on players being ready for stream) have started losing their patience.

I've been criticised a lot in the past, and probably the present, for being too neutral with my statements. I don't want to sound like a news bulletin. So, surprisingly I've decided to inject my own thoughts in to matters that concern the Quake community. I leave it to you rationally minded people to decide whether or not you wish to agree with me. However I think that people saying that I shouldn't even be stating my opinion is laughable.

Regardless, you make a very good point about the state of the scene and how we approach it from a professional level. Certainly when major events are around, I like to uphold a professional image. Also when Twitch is putting ZLive on the front page I like to present QL in the most positive and attractive light possible. However, when an organiser has decided to put a tournament up wish a prizepool equalling sub $30 - I think we can chill out when we noticed a streamer doesn't have a positive view of a player who has such a track record and an organiser is listing cups that said player has disrupted. It is factual after all.

casting is a form of journalism essentially. A good, professional journalist is impartial. You have to make a choice here, what are you? A hobbyist or a professional?

You might not be a journalist, and QL might not be a true sport, but you might understand why journalists try to have certain conduct, the same way QL tournaments might have certain rules. It is, in a way, selfless, and thankless position, with the goal of bettering things for everyone, overall.

Well I would class a QL Caster as a cross between a "Pundit" and a "Sports Caster". Neither role seems to require them to refrain from expressing their opinion:

I'm not disagreeing with anything you said - I'm just trying to clarify that I think we (all of us) are misunderstanding Zoot's role a little. He isn't a journalist who needs to ensure he only communicates objective facts from which others can form and express opinions - part of his role is to provide a commentary on the events and developments of the competition he is covering and other ongoing events in the QL scene. He would be pretty poor in that role if he didn't have and express his opinions on these recent events. In fact if he hadn't, some on esr would most likely have criticised him as a spineless hack for letting players like Agent ruin hours of effort by everyone involved without challenging this behaviour in any way. You are right - it is a thankless role, but I just think we should be clear about what that role is and most importantly what it isn't.

Speaking of support, I support Demiurge's request to change the cup name and I support Nico's compliance. I also wish to say that I did not mean to actively support a hate contest on Agent which the previous title of the cup may have been seen as. However, I do not withdraw any statement I have made about Agent on stream or here. I still think he's a complete imbecile. Maybe I appeared as a more humble open person 4 years ago, but that's because I knew a lot less about the scene and the individuals in it. I may have turned sour as a result of being more informed.

Something like 'asshole' or smth..

And it'll go like 'Agent=asshole' or 'Arseny=asshole' through a couple of weeks during your league in every stream hud and bracket info table.

Pretty insulting, but hey - the douches will know what they are signing for in the first place - if they won't want to play with stupid add-ons to their nicknames - they just won't participate in the league for the punishment period deliberately.

This system will keep the full entertainment always intact, while removing the necessity of kicks in an already scarcely inhabited scene;)).

Was there any rules that said that if you act the way agent acted then youdont get payouts and shit? Cause last time I heard there was only u ged DQ'd. If so, then Agent should get his moneys taht he actually WON. If not, if there was a rule that said be adick = not get paid even if u win then this is fine.

if i understood nico correctly, agent was not dq. he quit the cup. therefore any money he did earn were lost to him.

If you don't finish you can't win...so it's not really owed to him. It was only like $30 though so I guess he just thought fuck this and left :>

The cup is "sponsored" by the money he didn't win because he was DQ/forfeited. All the money he won are his to claim. ;)

From watching zoot play last night and playing some games with yakumo myself the map seems to be more fun than I expected it to be. Just hoping the performance is not killing it for everybody /o\

When it comes to the player who seemingly has behaved in a none appropriate manor countless times? Just ignore these actions and follow rules that have been written and punish accordingly. This should be done by admins and organization (125fps / face it etc) together with the player to avoid any misunderstanding and escalations; if there would be underlying cause like language barrier etc. I have no great insight of what has happened, but it should not end up like this (public attention) and lets move on. :)
