First things first, we all know QL had no place at dreamhack in the recent years. The game is just not relevant enough in general and on site as well, there are many others that can bring more viewers and money (directly from game companies or from advertising, among others) and there's no way quake was self supported at DH.

Secondly, no game is inherently better than any other. Quake should not have a spot just because you think quake is just 'better' or "more skilled" than cs:go or anything else. Furthermore quake is not chess but a game that has always been dominated by some teenager and where tons of top players are frankly idiots.
Actually if you were to make an argument on what game is better to have at DH then it certainly has to be street fighter 4, because it's clearly a much better spectacle and that everyone can enjoy. Just watch any of their streams and compare it to last year's quake.
Now skill-wise since you'll probably say quake is better than anything, fighting games players study the game to absurd extents (a big part of it is the competition and competitive players playerbase) and their execution's consistency is beyond top quake players. Quake is mostly situational, of experience and of some thinking about the game.

Thirdly, most probably the reason why DH dropped quake for the second time is that blaze left the team, who was the organizer. This means it has nothing to do with any other argument.

Fourthly, it has to be said that blaze had to deal with so much shit from quake players that the game was dropped for the first time for that reason: quake is not an easy game to organize despite it's only 1v1. It's much easier to organize street fighter.

Finally, do not blame DH nor blaze for (once again) dropping quake. They were all saints for hosting it for many years despite quake not really having a place there, just because they are massive fans of the game and most probably losing money and/or opportunities on this.


With that said, all what you wrote is either wrong or irrelevant lol.

In QL most of the world's best players are indeed missing. There's at most 20% left of how many there were in 2010. In the strenx donations thread cl0ck said it himself: it's not the same to win or do well at a lan in 2014 than in 2010; maybe not even a comparable achievement morally-wise. It goes to the point that it's not farfetched to say quake is not competitive anymore but just a hobby, unless the 4 top duelers and 4 top team modes teams.
Also even though certainly lots of top street fighter players won't attend because it's in europe, that doesn't mean the level will be much lower. Lets compare it with QL: if the top 4 players don't attend then any event is not relevant anymore because the rest is not anywhere near at that level, but in street fighter if the top50 doesn't attend then there's at least another 100 that are competitive.

Fighting games do not change (some would say benefit) from being played on a PC. That has absolutely nothing to do with it nor with being 'better suited for dreamhack'. Fighting games are not "console games" in the sense that some would say console games are hindered in comparison to PC games. It just is a different genre.

According to what we all saw on stream, last year the arena was practically empty for the whole event except for the grand finals, which wasn't packed really. It was quite a sad spectacle actually, showing how no one is interested in the game except for attending players. The vods are there for you to look up.

Certainly street fighter brings way more viewers than QL does. Without frontpage and without dota casters carrying people to streams like last year nowadays quake is at best watched by 2,000 people, which is less than what a bronze 5 LoL streamer gets.

The whole idea is to put yourself in the shoes of the organizers and hopefully that you finally understand that quake and especially not QL in particular is something to be praised. If anything if you are going to be a hardcore "quake only, everything else sucks"person then you should pick QW, because Q3 already was made to be more accessible and so was QL, a similar process on how LoL is what it is
