Aiming in CS vs Quake isn't really comparable. Completely different beasts. Personally I don't think either one necessarily takes more skill than the other. Although I am of the opinion that nothing about good CS aim is interesting to watch I guess.

No idea how prize pools are that small while viewership is so high. Maybe Valve just dumps all of their money into DoTA and forgot about fps games.

edit: Now that I actually look at some of the coverage I get why that many people watch. They've got replays and shit, cameras on the players, spectator wallhack, etc. This is super viewer friendly even if it is a boring game imo. Plus CS is just generally slower and easier for someone who knows nothing to watch I guess. I dunno.

From what i understand Dreamhack isnt affiliated with Valve, which would explain the low prizepool for csgo.

One other reason for Dreamleague(dota2) having a fairly large prize pool is because of it being broadcasted on swedish tv on tv6 (large and free channel).

CSGO will probably get alot more attention seeing how viewership is getting larger though.

Definitely. Meanwhile, half of Quake-related casts can't even get the audio right. It's like nobody's ever heard of a compressor or a duck button.

I'd still rather watch Quake, but there is like one Quake event per year that even attempts to reach this level of professionalism and even that fails most of the time.

They even had some eye tracking shenanigans, but rarely used it.

After watching DH I can't see anybody buying into that, it looked so inaccurate.

Theres more young blood among the pros today who probably didnt play much or any quake, but among the older and/or retired ones I belive most played some q3 atleast. zet played tons of ra3, SpawN the man behind zowie AM is from quak too I belive and played QL after he quit working as a gamer. But its probably mostly like everyone plays other games for a change to not go crazy +))

People going nuts even if the frags look poor could be because the frag no matter how bad looking takes the team closer to the win of the round, and sometimes the map. So I guess its like in QL if someones on a comeback with little time remaining its exciting because it takes him closer to pulling it off +) Or just taking out the quad, even if its just a poor looking frag, its important for the team. Also, a swedish team in the final and 99% swedes in the arena and the same teams played in the final in Kieve where the ukraine team won.

DHS is generally a smaller event, I think DHW had like $250k for csgo last time. But yes, FPS could use more love from valve. Theres also a lot more people playing dota2 and much of the prize pool usually comes from people buying shit in game.

I think csgo is getting bigger because its a "new" game and a team game with an easy system to look for matches as a team/with a couple of friends just like in dota2. I belive people generally prefer playing in a team over 1v1, something vor and dis often point out during their awsome chats. So a group of friends who decides to try out csgo can have fun together as a team, which of course is possible in quake too, it just takes a lot more effort to set it up compared to csgo/dota2.

CS takes some skills too tho... I hate when someone starts to say one game is uber skilled and other doesn't take anything to play on the highest level. There is not a single game in the world that can't be competitive to some degree.

Yes, I played even the cs betas back in the days... tho nowdays I play only quake as there is not much free time left for me and most of it I spare for other things.

people here simply don't understand "better" game from their pov wouldn't necessarily be better for everyone else. not everyone wants the same things from game, not everyone wants it to be 100% competitive, there's shit ton of people who play LoL like once a day and watch the LCS [lol league] after. In quake you either play a lot to catch up with certain lvl so you can enjoy the game or you don't play at all. In CS GO you launch steam, play a game shoot those fuckers, get double headshot, then watch dreamhack and then you go to do your homework or some other shit - nothing heavily involving - just fun (again - "fun" for some people). OR you can also tryhard like fucking mad, get a couple of teammates and play competitively. both ways are fine, as long as you get the fun you want from it

also i think people underestimate skill that it takes to get on a level of CS or MOBAs pros. ofc the skill gap to enter the game is like NONE, fucking non-existant, but the pro level requires actually same or even more amount of skill as quake's highest lvl ( i mean evil,rapha,cypher).

Look at LoL, how could LoL be successful ? It's a fucking team based game that requires what at least 10 people ? And you have to play for like what 30 goddamn minutes ? And if you have only one dumb mofo that decide to ragequit or go fuck his girlfriend or something you are pretty much screwed of your 30 minutes and you need to start the process all over again. Also to be good you mainly need to study the fucking game like you want to earn a fucking degree in the shit.

Maybe it's because people get MORE from the game than just the gameplay, I know it sounds crazy for every close minded quake player that a video game could actually be more than a fucking list of servers poorly patched to your video game.

Shrug, CS is what it is. Quake is totally different. Unfortunately for us, Quake isn't made by Valve which was the true reason CS:GO is so huge. If id Software pulled their thumbs out of their collective asses and had an iota of brain power to see that eSports is within their grasp for a game that defined it... we might see something.

CS really isn't all that bad. Because of the higher tickrate, there is a greater emphasis on reaction time, and as a result rate of decision making.

Aim tends to take a backseat to tactics in quake and the targets are much smaller in CS, but on the other hand quake has strafejumping, which adds another layer of decision making to aim and reaction times.

Both games take quite alot of mouse-jockeying to play, but I'd say that in CS the performance of the team has a much greater effect on the score than in quake. That is individual decision-making and shot-making takes a backseat to intelligent team tactics in CS, even in low-level play. The uniformity of available actions benefits CS's ability to force team-play as the only viable win-maker, and the game is difficult enough to be sport.

yea totally 1500 elo ca player shots.... You do realize in cs you have to utilize precision as well as accuracy? where as in quake its just about accuracy... you can shoot anywhere on the big ass hitbox and do the same amount of damage where as in cs they are tapping at tiny little heads while having to counter strafe their movement properly and quickly to be 100% accurate and being mindful of recoil. also peeking in cs is a much bigger deal then in quake and you have to do it in the right spots at the right times


ive played cs competitively on a semi pro level for 6 years and play go now just with old friends and sometimes we scrim etc but ive also played quake for 4 years and i can tell you both games take an insane amount of skill and its not just about the shots at all... cs is a wayyyy more stratregical game then any quake mode.. the meta game at tactical aspects at the top level get incredibly high

quake duel takes: timing, positioning, trapping, map knowledge, accuracy, movement

cs takes: timing/map knowledge, positioning, ability to work well with others and follow strategy and build natural chemistry, mid round reads, accuracy as well as precision and control, movement, massive clutch ability (able to make very smart decisions and reads to win a 1v3 or 1v4 etc situation against a really good team)

both games have their own skill sets and if you havent played one or the other and dont understand the inside aspects of the game then ofcourse you wont get it... when i was just a cs player and my friend showed me quake for the first time (pretty sure it was a rapha vs cooller duel) i said it was really stupid and that it just looked like two people jumping around stupidly fast to find eachother and try and kill one another with no strategy or thought process what so ever... thats exaclty what i thought and look how damn wrong i was

both games are great you just have to understand them from an active competitive players point of view

it took me like 15hours of gaming in CS to get decent aim and understand the game while in QL it took me 1 year of active play to get to 1600elo .

you were probably playing in public servers against random noobs... have you ever played on a competitive level? i mean with a team with set strategies in a league against another team? (esea, esl, cevo, CAL etc etc)

i can hop into a tier 1 quake pub to if i was brand new and still do decent

also i can guarantee you 100% that ur aim was not "decent" on a top level... you were out aiming random people, you would have to play actual long time cs players or current professionals to get an idea of how bad you would get wrecked (no offense) but people can literally shoulder peek insta 1 tap you in the head in a split second at high level
