I'm just trolling :) but q4 movement was the most complex and faster even than q3-ql movement. That would nail the game down atm.
But who knows what are they planing? Maybe quakelive in id-tech 5 engine with UBER TEXTURES for "smoother" gameplay hahaha....ok...trolling again.....only thing I would like to see will not happen so whatever they do is fine if it doesn't ruin the game even further.

Dumb people (aka 99%) already have big problems getting their head around strafe jumping, we don't really need deeper movement.

so give them their dumb mode and let the veterans have their promode.
clan arena/ffa scrubs will never switch and won't be bothered knowing there is a more "hardcore" mode out there.

I don't understand and don't want to understand how QL works after the past years changes, so I have two questions:

1.Now that premium accounts are removed, can a "pro" user spawn a public server with premium maps and callvote, in which standard users can join without an invitation?
2. If true, doesn't that bypass the system entirely? Is there any other way or similar to not deal with the hassles of inviting players (1) and of not being able to callvote maps (2)?

Yes. A "Pro" player can spawn a server with any map and with callvoting enabled and any player can join their server without invitation.

While this does allow standard players to play any map or mode, they can only do so if a pro-spawned server is present in their area with available spots to play. Once the pro-launched servers are all full, since they do not have the ability to spin up their own server, they can only play on the public standard servers which run the monthly arena rotation.

Another question: will the regular premium servers continue to exist? I mean the public ones not spawned by pro users.

We currently have no plans to discontinue them. They still have decent usage and offer an obvious service to our grandfathered premium players.

Why don't yo just let players host their own servers and make the game free?

Also, give every player some money for supporting ql this long.

No it used to cost ~25$ It's basically a price increase disguised as a decrease. That was expected considering shrinking player base and the price is still reasonable.

Well, it's a restriction in term of choices, but if i understand correctly the ability to spawn matches now costs less than before.

It's 1$ cheaper than pro used to be and 1$ more expensive than premium. Judging by #tdmpickup regulars and duelers in range 0-2k elo I play with - vast majority of them has premium accounts so I'm inclined to say it's a price increase. Will it bring more money and resources to quakelive? I hope so.

yeah most people were premium as far as I know, so this is an increase. I'm all for helping out quake live, but I'm still waiting for some serious change to the game with the resources.

What about letting free users in pro spawned servers? That was a pretty radical change if you ask me.

On a more serious note though.... I think that ID has managed to fuck up quake beyond repair with this move of "charging more for premium".
It's complete bs, if they wanted to cut the price then they should either
1) make the old pro cost the same ammount as the old prem, and give all prem users pro rights.
2) create 2 new prices (one for prem, one for pro).

They have (imho) lost all respect that the company once had.
That being said I would really like to actually compete at quakecon, because it seems like an amazing place to be. But I have played like 10~20 duels in the past half year or so... So I'm not in any shape.
Nor do I attribute enough value to a fun weekend to actually pay for it.
I do think that if I would ever plan a vacation to the usa that I would plan it around qcon and show up :D (not gonna happen this year though)

to get the name change, you have to register the new account you want to have.

Then you ask to the support to transfer your subscription from the old account to the new one.

However, you will lose everything else such as friends, stats , awards and so on.

Please note that an ccount tranfer can be done only once to prevent abuses.

Actually we had/have more Pro users than Premium users. So the only way we're making more money off of this move is if the new lower Pro prices encourage more people to buy.

This change is more about the big picture that our game will sustain itself longer if the the offering we've been promoting were cheaper. We hadn't had a price cut in four years, and I think we were overdue.

Correct. Auto-renewals use the current rates, not the price point at purchase time.

During an auto-renewal:

* If there is a sale you get the cheaper rate.

There are no current premium prices, it's not offered at all. It might be better to not renew premium for consistency. Maybe even remove it completely, converting premium time to pro.

1.) If you purchase during a sale, an auto-renew can occur at a normal rate, but we would never raise prices. I assume that wouldn't even be legal without cancelling the subscriptions first. So no one would ever be charged more on a renewal than the normal going rate.

2.) The Premium prices still remain, unchanged, for grandfathered Premium players. We are just no longer selling additional Premium subscriptions.

Why not? Your year of premium was cheaper, and if you now want to upgrade to Pro, all of your remaining Premium time will be converted into a discount towards your new purchase. You can upgrade for really cheap atm if you want Pro.

This is such a joke. I was banned from Quake Live and my post was removed as I criticized their efforts... Cant believe they cant take facts as they are, most of the big companies have figured out that best way to fight criticism is to politely respond to it instead of trying to shut down people criticizing.

Personally I never join to spawned servers as the server admin has power to abort match and even force spec you, which sometimes leads to some serious abuse.

Instead of shit like this, what if you would finally code working ranking and matchmaking system? Currently you have none and community coded qlranks is the the one and only reason some people even bother playing this game.

Personally I work as web developer and I know things even greater than qlranks can be done in 1-2 weeks with one skilled developer, but well, guess you really have none.

Actually we had/have more Pro users than Premium users. So the only way we're making more money off of this move is if the new lower Pro prices encourage more people to buy.

Most of the players that spawns leave the server after they stop playing and you play just another guy. That's the case most of the times.

when i join a server i will getting kicked either instantaneously or after one game, not always, but way too often that i started to avoid private servers.

the reason for that is, that i am simply not good enough for most of the remaining ql-duelers. but most of the time, i have no other choice but to play elo 1.6k+, which is a huge difference since i am 1.2k+ and i dont seem to get better. but this difference is not always the case i have to add, but at least its the more common one.

anyway i enjoy the game pretty much, its the only computer game is still play. i am playing it since q3test. over the time i came to the conclusion to not care about how good i am because quake is my hobby and i take out of my hobby what i like to. still it gives me things i appreciate.

now i am afraid, that it will become harder for me to find opponents since they all can take look at qlranks to determine how good i am and kick me on their private servers. its kind of sad for me.

Sad to hear that. I rarely experience it as most of the time the server creator don't come or he come and leave us playing. Maybe I play on "better hours" when they don't, dunno.

I've been rather ok with what the quake crew has put out as new features in the last couple years. I don'T need to change quake. why? it's perfect. quake 3 was also perfect when it had 10 players. It's never gonna have the same glory as 2002-2004 or whatnot. quake live has an ok player base ongoing tournaments and it's going pretty ok for a title that is COMPLETELY outdated by about 10 years. if I want to play a game that is the hip shit, where i can be insulted by 13 year olds with roc cat mice and mechanical keyboards i play dota or lol. if i want to watch 10 million dollar tournaments i watch dota. if i want to buy funny hats i buy them for TF2. if i want up to date graphics I play an up to date single player shooter. if i want to play quake, i play quake. simple as that. good thing we're not forced to only play one single game ever, right?

No because what I described is the opposite of Q4.

- Q4 has practically the same physics as Q3, just adding the buttsliding gimmick.
- A mixture of Q3 and Q2's aesthetics.
- Gore.
- Super graphics (one of the best looking games of its time)
- new shit for the newbs too (including mechanical combat actually)
- and I'll add that the gameplay was practically the same. Same weapons, very similar balance, same objectives/items, same concepts across every mod, no addition whatsoever as a game, same everything. The only difference as game was that it didn't include Q3 community-made maps.
= In the end Q4 can be perfectly described as having Q2's single player and Q3's multi player.

With that said gameplay-wise in multiplayer Q4's main mistake precisely was that it was too similar to Q3. The idea of a sequel is to release something new, not a copy. Compare QW to its direct sequel, Q3: gameplay and stylistically wise they are different, but a clear sequel nonetheless.. Furthermore, the game had some technical issues that made the game not feel right, such as 60fps and weird models, ending up in that Q4 not only was a Q3 clone, but a worse game than what it copied.

Finally and about upcoming games that are inspired on Q3, Q3 has been re-released many, many times over and in every single time of those it has failed, whether on expansions, ports, homages (Q4), a server browser inside an internet browser, newer consoles, etc. Actually the same goes about "quake clones" too: all have failed miserably. What's needed is a new game altogether (different franchise), or one that is based on Q1, but not a 15 years old game over and over again, just like you don't release super mario world over and over again, as great as it is.

And if you are thinking about cs:go, dota2 and many others that are reviving old franchises.....you are dead wrong. Those are practically entirely new games, in every possible way and with many, many, many additions, that make them size-ably different. Plus it has to be said that those wouldn't be welcomed by the 'hardcore quake3-only' crowd.

Q4 had no swag, Q2 had no swag, Q3 had a lot of swag.

So had QW.

I think it's high time to give that game a shot, hopefully not in just re-releasing it (like QL) but in making a whole new game with that artistic style, maybe even bringing Romero back.

Or even better, sell the rights to someone else, like they did with Wolfenstein.

i think we all should accept that q3/ql is the best there is and there will never be another because it is perfect. ^^ i even doubt that reborn can change this, even though i believe that it will occupy its space. but q3/ql is hardcore, minimalistic, its pure violence on many different levels and that is the deciding factor. i cant think of any better game, but maybe i havent dove enough into this topic. :)

You forget that people with pro get pro for cheaper price. And considering that premium is unpopular and there's much more people with pro than premium, it's very questionable that they actually get more money from existing subscriptions rather than less.

It's 12,11€ more. That's about a euro a month. You can't tell me you don't have a euro a month more leftover for quake... Hell I lose so much in change each month because my pockets have holes in them..

it's not about having the money but being willing to spend more for what some people (me included) see as an overpriced, half cooked, advertised as a free to play 15 years old game. I for one am sick of entitled people telling others that care for the value their getting to shut up just because 'who cares about so little money'. and so what 'it's for quake'. quake is not a charity but a business that has to give back value for the cost it's putting on the customers. and if someone has to pay twice as much for the same sub par service I'm not surprised it doesn't seat well. especially in the time when even this little ammount of money (that also adds up but that's another argument) can be well spent elsewhere for complete, satisfying experience. you don't care about your money or think you're getting your money's worth of value? great! but don't tell others to shut up just because they don't.

It's not exactly what i meant. terms of use and prices of things change all the time upwards as well. what I'm saying is: I understand people who are concerned about their price increase no matter how puny it may seam. I kinda see the entire business model ql is using atm as a ripoff of sorts (holding maps of all things as a ransom) and I don't think the price they're asking is fair to begin with, but this exact subscription decision I'm all for. 1. because for lots of people it means an actual lowering of the price they pay 2. because it simplifies the charging model and brings the community split forced by it one step to being removed someday hopefully.

imo it's rediculous that they 'force current premium users' to choose between either paying more for stuff they didn't want.... or to stop paying and get less than they want.

I think the price is fine for 1 year sub.
It's less than any new game costs.
I play everyday year after year.
Single player games are lucky if I even finish them lol.
Although I personally think the servers are garbage and feel like shit.... the price for running a server in ql vs renting a server in other games is far cheaper... just the servers are shit and obviously limited server control... no ban lists ect ect....

If we look at things from a different perspective....
It's a 1999 game with no real updates... with a team of 2 people... working what seems to be less than minimal part time hrs per week (16 hrs/week in USA)....then yea its a rip off...lol

And i might add again all the shit i just payed $21 for 3 months pro ( a week before the switch)... which is now $11.99.... they're giving away for free... I could have bought a gram of sour D for that.... and i'd be much happier. I'd have my kill beep, and i could play any map... for free...

Changes to simplify everything from playing to paying so that they can retain some of the new players exposed to QL thanks to Steam. They don't want QL to become yet another failed F2P MMOFPS on Steam; just being there is by no means a magic formula to success.

But obviously I can't say anything about the changes themselves. Nor do I know much anyway. I can't even tell you if it's gonna work since I can't read the future. All I can tell you is the intent and that id is gonna take the gamble for once.

...so it won't account for much for only 30 days if you're taking a full year sub.
