50ms was like hitting a wall with my mouse, anything above 30 was really easy. 20ms, I feel like I could tell if I put some time into really testing it, but it wasn't very plain to me. I just sped through the 20ms test. It was almost as if the game(?) were changing the input lag between rounds, because sometimes it was a lot more obvious.

same experience here. way too obvious on 50ms, getting more wrong picks below 25ms.

I only got 17 of 25 at 20ms, but a few of them were guesses. Probably around 5 I had no idea, the rest I was pretty sure but still wrong. I wanted to go crazy low, but I don't know if I could get 25ms accurately. Maybe I'll do it again later.

you set the input lag yourself, and them you have to chose left or right side. Or what do you mean by it changing by itself?

It felt like sometimes it was lower or higher than what I set it to.

I agree, some rounds feel really easy, others are not so clear.

with a 125hz mouse and 120hz screen I can tell it correctly (aka more than 20 right) without really trying down to 18ms.
Perhaps if I put in some more effort I'd be able to get that down... but that's around the place where it starts to get difficult :>

16ms was easy, 10ms was hard, but still noticeable enough for me to feel to get it right. But that's the lowest i can go i guess.

If that test added a target that moved around at a specific speed (that could be changed) it would be a much better test with tracking.

So what happens? What do these numbers mean? I got 24 out of 25 at the 20ms test. How much lag does lightboost add, how much is is the monitor? does Gsync add lag?

Alright I got 21 out of 25 on 10ms test but it was hard to tell apart unless I pretended I'm drawing something like 8 or V or just moving side to side rapidly.

it's just to test how sensitive each individual is to lag. I presume this program just adds extra lag on top of whatever setup you have. Numbers mean you are able to detect correctly (25/25) if something like 14/25 it's too low for YOU individually to detect the difference.

also, he haven't removed vsync from it, so remember to force it off in driver, otherwise both sides will have at least 1frame on top of what you chose.

No, on the contrary, I'm unable to see any input lag but I downloaded the tool. Maybe I'm too drunk.

Using an ATI 5970 + CRT + Mouse with no smoothing I was able to get 25/25 on 10ms

with a GTX 760 (gpu with input lag) + CRT + Kana v2(mouse with smoothing) it was a lot harder

why would you test with two variables instead of one at a time? surely swapping mouse is easy.

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but on newer nvidia cards they force something that feels like 5 prerendered frames of input lag for their benchmark scores

its about the difference between Max prerendered frames: 1 and max prerendered frames: 3 settings, but worse

25/25 on 25ms, might try something lower another time. But then I'm using wireless logitech mouse with half an hour input lag so I'm used to the feeling...

I played on a wifi mouse for half a year or so.... could aim fine on that... because the input lag is somewhat consistent.

wireless mices have huge input lag, and playing fps with those is suicide imo. I would never be able to deal with that.

wireless mices are widely accepted as being shit for games, has been for ages. I remember it being a hot topic around 2001, where ppl said to steer clear of anything wireless. We were all on crt screens back then.

So for someone to get used to it is not a big deal.

Aiming based purely on reaction is a bad type of aiming anyway... so just move the mouse xx ms before the other person moves and you'll hit fine...
That in ql the hitbox can be so damn detached from the model is a much larger issue...

it's not about aiming when you see, it's about being connected to the game. Aiming is secondary(!) the more 1-1 connected you are, you will ALWAYS perform better. Plz don't dispute what is obviously very important in any fps game where mouse precision is important.

If all of your inputs are delayed a, equal bit.... then it'll feel strange for the first few minutes (perhaps longer if the delay is huge)... but after that.... it feels similar to the non-lagged input.
It's because our own body actually already has a badass delay.... so we're actually dealing with 'output lag' all the time.. so our brain is used to it and can addapt quickly.

Sure it's not as good... but you won't really notice that except at shots that require a pure reaction...

it's the difference between lags that really fucks people up...
So when you switch from a lan server to a ping 40 server... it'll all feel like shit. When you go the other way it'll all feel unnaturally responsive.

Or like when someone has tn-20 on some weapons and tn 0 on others... it'll feel different throughout the entire game.
Or that playing vs someone with ping 50 != playing someone with with 10....
Those are the things you notice.

heck when I played on usa servers on ping 150 it felt good after 30 mins or so.... and even on japanese servers with ping > 360 I could play ok after serveral games.
Ofcourse you can't go for reactionairy rail shots on ping 360..... but who needs to? :D

I totally disagree. The "lag" we have from eye to brain, is evolutionary hardwired, and therefore i don't think its a valid argument. Do you "see" or "feel" the lag when you move your hand? no? but when you add ANY amount to that, it's gonna be noticeable, ofc with realistic limits like around one frame.

network lag and input lag are two so very different things, the fact that you wanna bring that into a conversation i find a bit odd. :/

reaction times and input lag, are again, too very different subjects imo. It's and argument ppl wanna use, but it's just as stupid as humans only see 30fps.

Normal precision aiming is done by feel, NOT reaction, but with input lag, you don't have the precision because its lagged, and you have to use reaction instead of feel, that's why.

The precision you have with a consistent delayed mouse is exactly as high as the precision with a instantaneous mouse. Although it might take you a minute or so to get used to it.
But if you have a "random delay" then your precision suffers a lot.

Also I talk about the delay of brain to hand. Not from eye to brain.
I can "see" that theres lag (any kind of lag). But that doesn't alter the feel. It just limits your reactionairy options.

The "normal aim" is not affected because everything is delayed by the same margin.... so doing the same action leads to the same result just slightly later.
Irl your hand also moves after the thought..... and your brain corrects for that. Same with a constant delay in the mouse.

nah man, i cant agree with that, imo precision is severely compromised with input lag, you don't "just" become accustomed to it and you aim is as good as before.

seems to be too long since you've tried crt + old nvidia driver to remember how it's supposed to feel, but let's leave it. We wont ever agree since it's now a matter of: "but for me it's no problem" and "yes it's a huge problem for me" :)

Was able to get most of them at 25ms but it was annoying because I'm on a crt and it's a white cursor on a black background so it has a really long ghosted trail.

do very short moves of your mouse and see which side feels more responsive. (aka which one starts as soon as you start moving your mouse and stops as soon as you stop moving it)

it's all about a chain of input lag, that 4ms is not 0ms + 4ms for lightboost, but added to already input lag.

monitors with lightboost support already have <1 ms input lag so yeah it's pretty much 4ms, or if you want to be pedantic 4.5-4.7 ms

Actually that person who measured LightBoost input lag names input lag of same monitor without LightBoost 7ms.

There are a lot of input lag tests, a lot of methods, a lot of mistakes.
Even simplest test with two monitors in clone mode connected to same PC and timer on screen have one big mistake: there are no any CRT monitor that can held 1920x1080@120/144Hz. Even if there is that CRT with such specs then error can be 1 frame (8.33 ms at 120Hz and 6.94 ms at 144Hz). But that tests are done with random CRT at 60/100/120Hz and at not native LCD resolution. So monitors scaling processing time is added.

monitor + driver + mouse + THEN lightboost, if you have a look in the original forum thread, it's about being able to detect when input lag reaches a certain level, lightboost might be what takes total input lag above that threshold, and makes you able to feel it.

exactly. What are you having trouble understanding? Not many, if any would be able to detect 4ms, but lightboost adds 4ms, they are not 4ms compared to 0ms. Im just saying a number, but they are maybe 19ms, because your monitor already has 15ms input lag on it's own, which you do not feel, but when you add 4ms to that, it's above the "feelable" threshold. Do you follow now?
