Aspect ratio does not effect FOV or Sensitivity in QuakeLive. If you used 120 at 4:3 in Q3 it would be 120 in QuakeLive. You might want to decrease it anyway as 120 is a tad high.

dunno about you, but when i changed fov from 110 to 95 i had to lower my sens by .2 to compensate

cm/360 didn't change. It does feel slightly different because the world seems to move around you faster than you're used to.

But it didn't scale down, so you shouldn't go on saying that it changes.
Heck we already have a zoom algorithm built into the game that deals with transferring the feel of the sens to a different fov.

Not broken on 4:3, but on every other aspect ratio it should work it's just id shoviing one incorrect value in there.

Ideally we'd be using vertical fov values and have a zoom alg where it's newfov/basefov.
Buuut every one is used to horizontal values so we'd get ten tons of whine from that alone.

Yeah i'm with you on 'feeling', but technically it doesn't change. As with anything, use a ruler to measure out the same cm/360 when changing games, but then adjust it +/- to compensate for the games speed and/or fov in question.

Yes it does... Load up the game in 4:3 with cg_fov 100 and take a screenshot, then change to 16:9 with the same fov take a screenshot again. Be amazed

This calculator is for the source engine but I tested it in quake and it works like a charm. (the source engine is just a heavily modified quake engine anyways)

I looked through the source code a bit. You can actually calculate that by hand. The formula is as follows(for the nerds):

2*(180/pi)(arctan(tan(x/2)/(y/z)/(4/3)))

x = fov
y = aspect ratio width
z = aspect ratio height

Afaik you can't calculate that in one go on a normal calculator since you have to switch from deg to rad half way through.

In order to calculate that you'd first calculate:

(tan(x/2)/(y/z)/(4/3)) = a in DEG
(16/9)/(4/3) = 4/3
tan(120/2)/(4/3) = 1.299038106

arctan(a) = b in RAD
arctan(1.299038106) = 0.9147429527

2*(180/pi)*b = c
2*(180/pi)*0.9147429527 = 104.8218211°

c = the fov you have to set your game at(if you use a 16:9 resolution) to be 120° = 104.8218211° ~ 104.8°

Found a way to calculate it in 1 go(in rad):

Simply convert your fov into radians with x/180*pi

for 120° this would be 2.094395102

2*(180/pi)(tan^-1(tan(2.094395102/2)/(16/9)/(4/3)))

= 104.821821 ~ 104.8 so the exact same result.
