While the ban threads are always entertaining to read, perhaps id should introduce a shadow style ban. Banned players would still be able to log into their account but would only see empty servers. Perhaps joining a server would just open a "ranked" practice round with no callvote options where they can wait by themselves.
I guess it is probably more taxing to the people who post regularly when they respond to cheaters again and again, but i find the threads enjoinable. I think id should display Banned? For consultation inquire here. when they log into quakelive.
Furthermore, we have talked about hacks, pirate servers, id's faults, etc. many times here and QL is just one game across ESR's lifetime. One day it will die or we will stop playing it and we'll go to the next game, like it has happened many times before.
Yeah I can't imagine ESR going anywhere. If anything, maybe we will get a surge of retards coming here if a new arena FPS somehow gets popular, like what happened to TeamLiquid with SC2 :D
I was once banned for a week or so for being a little ragy ca fart in my starts, as far as i can remember you can always log in, but whenever you join a server it says that you were banned or something. Could be wrong tho! :)
That's not how shadowbanning works. They should be able to see players in servers, and even be able to join in. There would be no serverside effect on this though, as no non-shadowbanned players would see them or be hit by their shots.
We used to do this. We'd run what we called "monkey servers" and when a banned player attempted to connect to a server, they were redirected to monkey server, where they could only play vs other banned players.
It was great in the beginning, but over time wasn't worth dedicated the server resources to, because they became aware of the behavior and would just disconnect/quit upon connecting.
