I've always had a soft spot the capcom vs games (on cps2) which started when I played 'X-Men Children of the Atom' in the arcades and played it ALOT. Then 'Marvel Super Heroes' came out followed by 'X-Men VS Street Fighter' then 'Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter' which then lead on to the 'Marvel VS Capcom' games. A growing roster of fighters with over the top moves and specials, shit going off all over the screen, they are all just really FUN games to play.
Also loved seeing 'Street Fighter Alpha 2' in the arcades and would always have a go.
Played a hell of a lot of 'Tekken 2' when it came out of PSX and also 'Rival Schools' although in that era I preferred the Saturn for beat em ups.
And you can't leave out the Neo-Geo... Last Blade 2, Garou Mark of the Wolves and Waku Waku 7 are all awesome.
Virtua Fighter 2 on Mega Drive is my alltime favorite. Prefer this version over VF2 on Saturn or arcade. Great balance, fun to play, every move has a counter etc.
Other than that it's classics...Mortal Kombat, Street Figher and Tekken series. I surprisingly liked Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution on Wii and Art of Fighting 3: The Path of the Warrior used to be my favorite game at a local arcade as a kid. Probably spent over $50 on that shit
Street Fighter Zero 2 and 3 (alpha in some countries)
King of Fighters '99, 2000 and 2001
old street fighter 2 from SNES and Arcade
Samurai Shodown 2
Marvel Super Herous
Marvel vs Street Fighter
Soulcalibur
Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat
Art of Fight
...
The control scheme is simplistic, but flashy, with a certain smoothness to it. I just like how the characters walk with little friction, it feels right. Emphasis is on bad ass action rather than fireball and zoning wars. There isn't an overload complicate commands or million characters so also accessible and noob-friendly, The art style is cooky and the characters just the right amount of weird.
Darkstalkers Resurrection is a HD pack of this and ds3 with online play. At only 5 euros on the xbox marketplace it's a huge bargain. If you want to get into fighters and cheap, it's a no-contest, this is the best deal. If you don't want to commit straight away, there's free demo .
This is the more detailed continuation of games like above. Lots of shit flying around and lots of characters, but it makes the game more complex and less noobfriendly. No online community at all. I haven't tried the new one, because no PS3. Maybe everybody went there. If someone wants to play this, add me on xbox: Pyrintofan
Mortal Kombat 2
Favourite MK, the backgrounds are surreal. The violent atmosphere. Little hard though, dunno how MP stacks up.
Killer Instinct
This is breakaway from the rest because of the combos and whatnot, but it's just so hardcore. A complete testosterone bloodbath.
X-Men: Children of the Atom
I just remember playing this tons when I was a kid. No idea how it has aged or if it's even that good of a game.

It's BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend and yes everyone moved to Chronophantasma.
The game's so pretty and smooth looking, very polished. Compare to say Under Night In-Birth which came out recently but still looks less polished IMO.
