If he hits 50 on you at mid/long range then yes it is your movement which is bad. On close range such values are normal. Try to uses Cats tutorial - it is spot on.

Prrrfr, I don't know. 35-38 % is pretty usual for me, but I never play 1v1 LG only, I just play 1v1. It's my favorite weapon and I have about 40 % LG usage. Sometimes in CA or FFA, because people don't give two fucks about dodging or is elsewhere occupied, I can hit 45-50 % but that would never happen in a 1v1 for me =p

Yeah, I'm gonna second accel if you play with an 'avg' 35-45 cm/360. Shave like 5-10 percent off your sensitivity, add a little accel that will get you back there and then you can play around with acceloffset if you find you are always triggering accel. You will be surprised how much your LG and overall accuracy improves. The goal is to reduce your sensitivity a little while making your fast 180 swipes still function like fast 180 swipes without there being a real disparate difference between your base sensitivity and accel.

I was never a LG whore, but I do know some people who bind small FOV or zoom to the LG as it helps them keep it on track. They simply see the target better and can be more precise.

Another note: to get good acc with LG try to aim a little inf ront of the enemy hitbox. If you're trailing him, overaim so he actually keeps walking/flying into your LG, not your LG trails him. It's very ahrd against really good dodgers but training is key.

And TURN LG OFF as soon as you lose track, unless you want your % to drop a lot.

The other thing about trying to get better with LG, is that you will start chasing LG acc's, causing you to heavily favor LG when it isn't really a good time to be using LG. This will make your acc fall obviously, even though your setup might be better for what you want. As soon as you notice you are chasing LG acc's and they are falling and you have the wrong wep out for the situation, it's time to take a break and come back to it another day. Also, other players will notice you are favoring LG and leverage positioning against you.

Hitbox is a cylinder BTW.

Using models such as Bones works against noobs only because they think that the model is smaller/thinner = hitbox is smaller. In reality its all the same. As you can see Tankjr pops out of the hitbox a little.

That's from Dec 2009. The blue cylinder is now 10% larger (starting Aug 2010 I think?)

cg_lightningStyle <1-5>: the looks of the lg beam. It's completely depending on preference.
cg_trueLightning <0-1>: controls, how much the beam bends. Most common settings are 0.9 and 1.

cg_gunX -10; cg_gunY 2; cg_gunZ -8 (default is 0; 0; 0): the placement of the weapon itself along the X, Y and Z-axis. With these settings, you will have thinner beam with cg_drawGun 1, 2 or 3 (and you still won't see the weapon itself).
----> the commonly known term "thinshaft" is this: cg_gunX -10; cg_gunY 2 (or 3); cg_gunZ -8; cg_lightningStyle 4.


cg_lightningImpact <0-1>: enables / disables the showing of the impact on hit (it's like a little blob at the receiving end of the beam)
cg_lightningImpactCap <default: 192>: you can set the size of the "impact-blob", when cg_lightningImpact is 1.
cg_impactSparks <0-1>: enables / disables sparks on hit. You can even further customize impactsparks with the related cvars.

cg_hitBeep <0-3>: the sound effect, when you hit. Some prefer 3 because of the lower tone.

cg_forceEnemyModel: the cvar for setting enemy model. Some prefer to use tankjr / bright exclusively for shaft, because it's wider. You can rack up multiple cvars for each weapons with using ";" and "set - vstr".

(I use different settings now, this is just an example.)

cg_drawCrosshair: the style of crosshair. Entirely up to preference, but many people use 2 or 7 for shaft. 13 is getting popular too.
cg_crosshairSize <default: 32>: the size of the crosshair.
cg_crosshairColor <1-25>: the color of the crosshair

These are the more common settings, that you can play with. There's some other little nuances you can tinker with, like different light-settings, modelcolors, crosshairhitcolors and such. Some people claims, that a bit lower contrast between the enemymodel and map objects (r_overBrightBits, r_mapOverBrighBits, r_mapOverBrightCap, r_ignorehwgamma 0 / 1 (1 works only, if r_enablePostProcess is 0)) helps shafting a bit - in the end, it depends on you, like so many things in the game.

Some people also say, that lowering your sensitivity is good for your lg, but for me, the opposite is better, so this is entirely up to personal preference too.
Many players using zoom while lg-ing, even in mid-range, but for me, it just doesn't work.

When it comes down to the basics: ONLY YOU CAN DISCOVER WHICH SETTINGS WORKS FOR YOU THE BEST. You need to invest some time to find out, at least the main guideline.

Also, another tip, which worked for me: when QL started, I was terribad with lg (~30 % acc max). In fact, I hated it. Then I started to deliberately force its usage, even in situations when it was not a good choice.
Now avg. is 35-40, can hit the same on TDM pickup vs. 2000+eloer TDMers. Duel can be less because of the occasional excessive spam, but in FFA, it's 40-45 % 9 times out 10, regardless of spam. 45+ is not rare either. All in all, I might not be considered an lg-whore, but at least I'm confident that it's not my weakest point.

If you don't have friends to practice with, load up Thunderstruck with Nightmare Hunter / Hossman and try to out-lg them. They have really simplistic "dodge" patterns, so it won't be much of a challenge, but it's good if nothing else is available at that moment.
For mid-air rocket + rail practice, DM17 with Nightmare Sorlag / Anarki.
On a sidenote; if you launch a devmap practice server (devmap <mapname>) and set bot_thinktime 0, the bot's dodge will improve as it won't jump so often and its movement becomes a bit more erratic.
Just don't play too much with bots, since you will get bad habits.


And lastly, the most important setting: practice, practice, practice @ Fatal1ty.

About Tsu, he is good at close range LG, bad at long range. He also lags which makes him a bad practice partner for LG.

He never lags when I play with him... he has a strong/consistent aim, but his dodge isn't on the same level, it's not hard to hit high % on him, at least for me the hardest guys to hit until now were Heartless and Gienon, their dodge is kind of mind fucking.

get 1 month playtime more and u will be possibly hitting 5% more, while ur not getting shafted with 50, but with 45lg.

That doesn't mean much, look at all these aliases trying to get high acc displayed on their fresh accounts, but then they can't really play, they only wait to use LG behind your back, when you fall, when you're on jumpad, when you're standing still, then LG vs LG if you start dodging they switch to RL. Also if they get rocketed they can't even keep tracking anymore. Sometimes they can't even deal high amount of damage too!

Lower your sensitivity.

Sensitivity does not matter per se, what matters is your hands. Those with better hands can play at higher sensitivities without issue. Those flash games that randomly get posted are actually a fairly good measure of your hand eye coordination ability.

I personally use 6.9cm/360 (6.022 ingame sens at 1000 dpi) and average 46 lg and 60% rail.
I can also use a low sens like 20cm fine, but of course it takes a day or so to get the muscle memory down. (A full night of sleep)

To answer if zoom is useful for lg, no it is not. It's sad if you need zoom for a weapon with such a short range and zooming will mess with your movement.
I personally use 100fov on every weapon, but do zoom with rail as it can be useful.
To improve, simply understand how the hitboxes work in the game. They are always delayed.

ha, watch some pros playing, they are only using mouse aim if it is impossible to make a strafe aim for some reason (they want to put more effort in dodge or simply do not have enough space).

Also in duels trace aim will come only with map angles learning.

2) What is the distance between center of player model (or at least what is referred as origin[k] in demo file) to point from which viewangles[k] is calculated (I guess it is somewhere at level of eyes of model and I suggest it 16 points above origin[2], but I am not sure about this number) ?
