ill be honest with you, there are very very few casters where i had the feeling they are adding anything to the game i watch by their "duel knowledge". actually other than 2gd or rapha i cannot name anyone that made me go "oh.. thats clever!" without beeing hindered by either missing insight or not having the tools to express of a native speaker.

i dont listen to casters to understand whats going on, most of them only state obvious stuff anyway. what i expect of a caster is to give me background information or to push the mood and just not annoy me. its like watching football.. i could aswell watch the game without sound and would still get whats happening, but the caster is still important for enthusiasm and to inform me about stuff i cannot see in the camera.

so maybe our expecations just differ. for me deep knowledge about the game isnt of much value, i rather have someone that has a pleasent voice and the ability to put it into use to push my excitement and understands when to talk and when not to.

well what i would call not pleasent are 14y old boys that cast letsplays of minecraft on youtube with their squeaky yolo voices. i would lie saying i dislike the sound of an adult women with a clear and crisp voice. even the russian english accent i find way less annoying than say french or italian (guys like l1nkin and stermy annoy the crap outta me).
before you think again that im jerking of you might have a watch at my post that actually is 50% critisism of what shes not doin good and may improve. i just think the fundamentals are there and whats left _can_ be improved.

Talks to much, its exhausting to listen to. I dont like casters babbling like mad just to fill every second, that seems to be a common mistake with new casters, i am sure i would do the same. Not good enough english. Most casters are crap to begin with though so she would improve i guess but personally i didnt really enjoy this stream apart from the games.

On the positive side she brought some energy and excitment i guess.

+ Good vocabulary
+ very good with coming up with stuff on the spot so there are no awkward silence moments

- The accent. It's not VERY bad but for a viewer it's really off throwing when you are paired with a native speaker..
This might be just me but the fact that you replace "th" with "z" annoys me a lot :D I know it's hard for Russians to speak with th, I find it easier with Z myself but for a "professional" stream it just doesn't work
- duel insight, experience.
You're a tdm player so you cast it like it's tdm. I saw people on stream saying you have insight.. Prorobly 1200 elo guys, because you had none of it. You said what you saw (not always a bad thing) and just made good use of it.

What I suggest is trying to get that "th" thing down and start playing duel until you are at a reasonable level (1700-1900). Trust me, you will understand the game mode a lot better and your insight will greatly improve.
Also what I think everyone noticed was that you ran out of breath very often. Let me guess, you don't speak English very often? I have the same problem sometimes. Try relaxing, taking smaller breaths. Another thing is just letting the person you're casting with take over.

About insights - you are probably right, but Super Koziol in chat said she was supposed to be the lead caster and tbh Zoto doesn't do insights neither.

Actual gameplay dueling skills have very little to do with casting. Look at 15 years of casting starting from djwheat GTV up to now. Being an excellent dueler does make you an excellent caster, and vice versa. You seem to be in some sort of mindset where you think dueling experience applies to every aspect of life; it doesn't.

In this case it was something she lacked. She tried to present insight but as I meantioned it was more of a TDM cast. I suggested playing more duel to help her have better duel insight beacuse that is what she needs, imo. If not that then she needs to watch some VOD's of zoot casting and she what she can say instead of insight.

I thought Enjoyka did pretty well - she has a nice voice and was able to think of stuff to talk about on the spot when needed - background info about players etc. I think she struggled with the english as time went on - it is after all tiring to maintain focus in a foreign language at the same time as concentrating on the game etc. It is also difficult to fit in as the 3rd caster between 2 casters who are more experienced and comfortable casting especially on your first tryout. I think if she relaxed a bit more and spoke slower in a more considered way, she would be really good.

A few years ago, when Greased Scotsman challenged critics to come online and try themselves if they thought they could do better, I tried commentating a demo offline at home just to see how difficult it was, and it is really hard. Just go back and see some of zoot's early streams, or ins' casting when he is left alone for a bit when zoot has to go offline, it's not easy at first and in that context Enjoyka did really well.

I'd be surprised if Zoot finds casters that won't disappoint most of you... And I'm not even being pessimist. Give the newcomers a chance at least, as if everyone start from the top. When Pansy (Lauren 'Pansy' Scott) started on COD4 the community was less acting like ass***** about it, now look where she is, streaming CSGO EMS etc and shit.

This pretty much. It's not like we can cherry pick with our uber tiny community. That said, I personally don't think the current casters we have are all that special. I mostly prefer pro's or former pro's guest casting and then I find it enjoyable :>

Not too bad. It took a minute or two to adjust to her accent. But they need to get their mics to the same quality or at least the same volume.That will already make it a lot better.

I think most people will suck pretty hard in the beginning but your language skills and flow can easily improve over time. I hope they can find a commentator who is somewhat skilled at the game and has some insight at whats going on. There must be someone available who is at least above 1200elo.

idk, his english is good and the way of speaking very soothing and fluid. but i kinda felt like he was talking too much (just like Enjoyka did yesterday) and not only did he also just talk about obvious stuff, he was often wrong and missed the flow of the match.
i really disliked the nasal sound of his voice and the accent (french?) just doesnt work for me at all. had a very hard time listening to that and the combination of what he said + how he said it wasnt pleasent for me. on the other hand he had a lot of little strengths like a good synergie with other casters (voices did hardly overlay) and he sounded very awake and confident.

From what I heard (around 1.5 hours) during the actual game 90% of the time (if not 95%) he literally descrbies what he sees. Play by play in a nutshell.

I agree on the voice and some of the expressions he used: "golden fingers", "sending rockets" (as in posting a care package?), "his hand did it"... But all this is very subjective and others may find all this endearing.

Brainie showed some professional techniques and tried to inject some energy and excitement, but clearly lacks the experience. Sometimes he was still trying to describe the situation 10 secs after the situation had ended and the game had moved on... But that is something that can be improved on over time. He did use the hud info to comment on an item being picked up away from the current pov. But I think he showed some distinct lack of knowledge of the game and maps, again though this can be improved on over time.

He did show some determined professionalism and sucked up well to Zoot (learning from the master), ins (beautiful shaft aiming), and Koziol (such a beautiful poster he made).

I agree with the comments above that we are not going to get ready made casters and we are going to have to live through their development with them as they learn through doing it. The question is who will be the most enjoyable to follow through this development? At least 3 more to go yet, so I think I will wait and see the others first. But props to all of them for having the balls to give it a serious try.

Hope for native speakers, all my favourite casters are britts, zsx, vor, disrepute, joe, 2gd also zoot and ddk. Generally i avoid teens aswell they are mostly just annoying, havent had time to watch vod yet so dont know about brainie besides the few minutes i watched.

Enjoyka was cool, but would rather see her making guest appearances once in a while than seeing her cast regularly for zlive. Her accent and voice and vocabulary were fine to me, her duel knowledge isn't too good though and she doesn't keep up with the action. Also she talked too much compared to her co-caster. She's funny though.

There is a complete misnomer that all casters started out bad because people remember Zoot being that way. He is the exception to the rule and is unique in his determination. The reality is you either have it or you don't. The moment 2gd casted we all could see he was amazing. Nobody ever thought Joe was bad. Zsx and Rapha have barely commentated but people enjoy their styles. Even looking at me, nvc, vor were never thought of as bad casters.

If these people have the same drive as Zoot to spend 4 years in the shadows doing daily casts till they simply become the standard (who is now only compared to ddk who has casted only a fraction of the time), then yes they have a chance. But the reality is if they have not already streamed for themselves then they don't have that drive.

I don't want to be harsh but what's the point wasting time on people that are simply not suited to it?

thing is - do we have alternatives. i guess we can all agree on having a native speaker is close to a must have but id rather have someone else that learns to shut up over time than noone streaming at all.

QLranks stream is an irrelevant example, as competetive games are mostly played on private servers, while the bot streams public games only. It wasnt meant to stream competitions.
Besides, it gets steady amount of viewers (50 seems to be an avarage) during any hour, day or night.

Well you must have seen casters come and go over the years and you have been doing it quite some time yourself, so I guess this is an important perspective. And I suspect you're probably right. I know you don't mean to be harsh, so I hope when they read this it either helps them avoid wasting a lot of their own time, or at least re-evaluate the level of commitment they will need to succeed.

For anyone that doesn't remember zoots casting was also an acquired taste at the begining. I only watched the first vod but I thought the chick did a pretty amazing job considering English didn't sound like her first language. Steak joke made me laugh quite a bit tho.

enjoyka is at least experienced of the game, they are letting too many unexperienced people cast tho, not like you gotta be 2.2k elo to be a decent caster, but you should at least be able to provide SOME insight of the game.

The Norwegian guy yesterday (I forget his name sorry) apparently hasn't got a high elo yet his understanding of the game was excellent. His casting was so far the best of all the tryouts, his english language ability was almost as good as a native speaker and he was very comfortable leading the commentary. He only had one small negative in that he was a little too quick to respond or jump in on the other casters' comments so he often cut them off before they had finished talking. But apart from that he also had an easy and relaxed manner that didn't stress the listener and only got excited about the action when it was warranted. Best so far WP.

the Finnish guy of yesterday has a total of three duels played on his qlranks. I don't wanna be a dick, but I would like a little more experience from a caster, even if it's just a play by play caster. I remember one thing zoot(?) said once, that at first you just say x picked up the rl, but later you have to learn how to add context, x picked up the rl so he can be a bit more defensive now to defend his lead or something like that. Excuse me if I doubt someone with zero experience (watching streams =/= duel experience) will be able to add that context.

Sorry but anyone who has played (or even watched) Quake for at least 5 minutes can say more than just "x picked up the rl", if they can't they aren't suitable and shouldn't be wasting their time.

It's why I don't get these caster trials in a way. Are these people who actually want to be casters and this is suddenly their big opportunity to do so? I don't see how it can be, it's not hard to become a Quake caster, it takes about 10 minutes to "become" one. Do these people trying out have their own channels that they broadcast on and have at least some experience doing it? Or, are they just like "oh cool I get to be on a popular quake stream with those guys I listen to all the time, that'll be fun".

I would honestly expect that all the people trying out would at least be casting somewhat regularly, even if it's only once every two weeks or something, because otherwise are they really that serious about it? It doesn't add up to me. Maybe I've just missed their streams, maybe there are better to come.

You'll only show a lack of knowledge if you try and bullshit your way through a cast by claiming to have knowledge you don't. You can cast perfectly well without high level insight and without just continuously saying things along the lines of, "he has taken the yellow and now he has taken the rocket launcher and now he is firing rockets at his opponent and now he is killing his opponent and now he is winning the game and now he is won the tournament and now he is ...."

People who start out this way will literally never improve and nobody will wait for them to try and improve. They'll just turn off.

that is exactly what I heard all those try out guys do (granted I was only half listening)

the point is we are looking for people to take over the show. unfortunately we can't cherry pick from the pool of experienced quake casters willing to do it for fuck all, so we have to make do with what's available to us. the trials are to determine who can handle the pressure and be entertaining while providing the basic necessary info any caster should. giving a chance to new talent is also cool and necessary. the show and the channel is going to change. we'll see what happens, but we have some ideas about how to proceed and those people are important to realise our plan.

The type of person you're looking for would be better off starting their own channel, just like you did.

Quite simple really... I explained everything on the main thread that informed people what is going on. I'm sure people can use their imagination as to how it would impact them casting on Z Live.

really? zlive is you and ins + excellent timing with 125fps. your success is a combination of these things and once people realize you arent offering the same product anymore, they will either leave or stay to enjoy the new 'product', which is the new caster.

if the new caster is popular enough that people will stick around for him, why not stream on his own channel? because after your departure the circumstances will be exactly the same as before zlive and the 2 major things for a new caster are simply not to be annoying and realiably cast the 125 fps content. if the new caster sucks, people will not watch him regardless of channel

I want to highlight to people that this is NOT the end of casting for me on Z Live. I'll still turn up to certain events when I'm able to, I will still host subscriber events and if the opportunity arises; I will go to LAN events.

basicly to me it looks like you're just looking for someone to carry the channel while you take it easy and swoop in whenever you 'can', which is probably all the major events. instead the new guy could start putting all the hours into his own channel and probably get enough recognition to get to cast all these events himself, just like you did in the beginning.

im not trying to give you shit for trying to keep the show, but i think YOU'RE mistaken. the show IS zoot and ins + the gameplay. if you get a new caster(s) with the same gameplay, it will be a completely different show where atleast 50% of the product has been changed, while the other half (gameplay) stays the same.

so if anyone is willing to put in hours upon hours of work, stream 4 days a week and be a 'proper' caster, then why not build up his own channel instead? the gameplay is exactly the same (125 fps content) while the other half (caster) has absolutely nothing to do with the current show. the content is there free for anyone to stream and try to become popular, which at this point only means a) dont be annoying b) stream 125 fps content reliably

I'll try to make some points without sounding as much of a dick as you did originally.

Firstly, we're not going to change the product entirely in one show - we plan on having familiar faces around for a while longer. Despite me having to go to london for 2 weeks, I will be here for a further month+ after before I have to start focusing on studies.

I will swoop in when ever I can, no need for me to surround any words with apostrophes. I've got things I need to prioritise, if I find that I've got more spare time than I originally thought then of course I will be spending more time with the channel. That's ignoring the fact I will be doing a lot of administrative and organisational work for the channel while studying, I guess you ignore the fact that work also goes on when the stream is offline.

I think you're also forgetting all the things that make Z Live what it is. It certainly isn't just me and ins. There is a community of people there who congregate every time the show is live in order to talk to each other. It doesn't matter if specifically myself or Ins arent there as long as the people coming on board are able to maintain the spirit of the channel.

I think you also underestimate how difficult it is to start alone, a lot of people don't want to push themselves through dozens and dozens of hours of streaming with often no reward - even if they are talented individuals. We're giving people shortcuts to a large stage (for Quake) where they can grow their skills, take advice and be a part of a bigger project.

It's not so black and white this whole streaming thing.

yeah zlive has a completely original and independent community and not the same nerds (in the past, myself included) who basicly tune in to check anything quake related, get real. you can find these guys at 4am watching ddk play something as much as chatting on zlive's channel.

yeah i get it, you're offering them a platform. but imagine if you stop streaming while someone who is dedicated to streaming 125 fps 4 nights a week steps up, doing reliable casts and all that shizzle, how many viewers do you think your platform would add to his excisting viewers who come for the quake?

In all fairness he's right.

You basically ask that someone else does all the dirty work (for free) and that you get all the benefits. And the thing you give in return is a platform that's so unstable that if you don't stream for a week the void will be filled and everyone will switch almost instantaneously. And the "skill of the caster" is pretty much irrelevant.

Ofcourse it's a different story if you would also stream, as then it might be hard to gain an audience away from a stream that has been doing it for a while and is known.

Heres reading between the lines (of the Zlive is recruiting origional post):

1) I will begin my last year of university, so therefore a lot of the time I'd normally spend streaming will be spent on actual studies. == Zoot is afk / busy don't expect much from him.

2) We want to continue pushing the channel forward with the right individuals. == channel comes first individual comes later.

3) as all of us in Z Live sacrifice social hours in order to get the best out of what we do. Of course, we reward hard work - but we don't want this to be the incentive. I've been casting now for a few years, a lot of work I did was for little or no money. == Don't expect much in any other form either.

4) Although the reason for my motivation is largely because I see a future for myself in the gaming industry, as well as a future for this company to grow. == ME ME ME!!! (or Zoot Zoot Zoot!!!)

So basically the post is: Help zoot because otherwise he might lose my chance to have a future in the gaming industry!

There is absolutely nothing there which actually "helps" the new caster. The only things that you "do give" is
1) the community which you've already said could switch to a different stream in a heartbeat if zlive isn't on.
2) to help out. While at least zoot is not actually there to help out (dunno about you).

If you can't see that zoot wants to have help for his own ambition (which is to get uber famous in the gaming scene! And it's NOT to help people enjoy quake more.) then you might need lessons of reading between lines.

There are big advantages to joining an already established setup, especially when making money. Zoot clearly said they would get something from it so it's not totally for free. You really don't earn anything from simply streaming unfortunately, and if zlive has other sources of income already working then they could potentially earn more streaming with him in the short term than going it alone.

Zlive has run it's own sponsored events, has connections to get front page on twitch, links to LAN operators and an experienced setup for advice. Personally if it was me starting out I would use zlive the way Zoot used holysh1t, leveluptv and faceit to build my profile before going my own route. Even then you have to want to go it alone which a lot of people don't. I actually think even now if I was to cast again (and if me and Zoot actually got along) I'd choose to cast for zlive than leveluptv because I could just focus on the casting rather than everything else.

Sure you could spend time building your own following, and it might be worth it if you wanted to cross into other games. For quake alone I can't see the point.

I think it's a great idea to give people the chance to cast. But let's not waste time on people that are not suited to lead casting role. That doesn't me they couldn't be some kind of analyst, or pundit or presenter etc. it would be nice to try and evolve coverage from the stale 1-2 man show we have been dishing out for years.

Oh and so what if Zoot wants to keep his company going while he completes uni. It makes total sense for him to do that. I wish them all the luck in the world, in carving a path to making some real money in this industry.

But he could've answered that to any of the above posts as we're basically just asking what kind of "benefit" the new caster would have over producing his/her own show.

Also zoot didn't say that the new caster "would get paid" he said that "hard work will be rewarded" followed by "a lot of work I did was for little or no money". Which to me would sound like "don't get your hopes up about ever recieving any payment".

Zoot has worked his ass off to get his project going so far and I have a ton of respect for that, please try to have a little bit aswell. Casting is certainly not the annoying part of setting up a project like this one, it is all that surrounds it. There ARE people who enjoy casting and that certainly does not count as a "dirty work" for them when everything else has been handled with beforehand and they just have to hop in and cast. Sure if you cast for an entire afternoon/evening or something it might get exhausting and annoying, but even I enjoyed my time casting during a Faceit last year eventhough I was tired as fuck and kind of happy it ended, but I'm not willing to be a regular caster either.

I'm always happy to listen to constructive criticism, but I often receive criticism from a small amount of people that no longer becomes constructive. If I were to ever listen to them then I would have given up a long time ago (which, maybe is what they want - who knows). If I bring a counter argument to points that are being made, I expect new arguments or points to be made rather than the one I just replied to being completely regurgitated.

The show simply wouldn't be what it is now without criticism being taken on board. Although when feedback is being given in an hostile and sarcastic tone, then I figure that these guys aren't actually trying to help in the first place.

I thought she was genuinely good in terms of enthusiasm, confidence, enjoying what she was doing etc. but her English just isn't clear enough to be a lead caster. She'd be great as someone who does interviews on English streams, because knowing Russian and English, especially in the Quake scene, is an awesome asset. But to be a lead caster in English? Nah, you're alright.

I totally understand your point on the player experience front, but his performance yesterday was a clear counter-example to this. Despite not having extensive dueling experience himself, he was able to provide really good insight to support his play by play. In fact much better than others with more in game experience.

+1, he's definitely been the best tryout so far by a significant margin. Not to say he's perfect, but he certainly was not bad at all.

Missed whole show yesterday, can you point to some game which he casted? Pill_ below says the guy has 3 duels total, and with your comment all this makes no sense - you just can't have 3 games and have Excellent understanding of the game.

As Dis said it, "you either have it or you don't". These guys clearly don't. They might get to acceptable level in like 2 years time, but Zoot is looking for a quick solution for this fall. If you except these guys to be main casters in just a month, well that's a quick drop in production quality from semi-professional to shit tier. The thing is, Zoot 4 years ago was already better, because at least he had proper English. These guys basically start far behind the zero line. They not only lack gaming knowledge, casting knowledge and gear, they lack the ability to perfectly express themselves in English.

btw I remember super_koziol casting a match with zoot some time ago - felt pretty good actually although (it at least seemed to me) he doesnt have the understand of zoot and ins

The analysis was not at a super high level by anyone so far but since its just tryout for play by play as far as i understand its ok, and he was by far the most pleasant guy to listen to. Some of the others where honestly painful to listen to after just a few minutes.

I watched all the casters so far and have to agree with the people that are annoyed about the accents. It is a big problem and has affected me in the past when someone that I want to like but instead now dislike during casts just because of the accent ( momento_mori ).

I do occasional casting for 4seasonsgaming invitational and also the low elo cup competitions when I have time. I can completely understand if I was ever removed from the position because of my accent as I was not born in an English speaking country and at the end of the day you need to find someone likeable at first and then worry about game knowledge, vocabulary, enthusiasm.

I think a good player can shape themselves to become a good caster but a good caster will struggle to shape themselves into a good player. Something people have to think about before apply for a committed role on any regular show.

we did give CMSS a go at casting and although i think he is a bit shy, maybe we can give him another shot at the low elo cups to prove himself :)

Well, I actually wanted to form an opinion about his casting, just so I'll be able to say "AW HELL NO" or whatever.

It's a 90% DUEL stream , not TDM , not CTF... so it's obvious that a guy that has experience with duel should be the main caster , not some wannabe popular average ESR-er :) I really don't care about the accent thing if the guy/girl is coming up with insight on the game , real insight .. not play by play bs .. which btw , i am WATCHING the stream , i can see what is going on , i'm not blind .. ffs commentary like "he just picked up the shaft" "he is at red" .. man seriously it's super redundant. Maybe some people (1200 elo) watch the stream and want to improve their game .. that play by play on and on doesn't help one bit .. it's actually annoying .. Instead of play by play , try some jokes or idk .. something else to fill the 5-10 seconds void lol.

I've just realised - once we've finished tearing each candidate apart based on their relative casting skills, we will still need to see what they look like... I'm supposing that they will be using a video cam etc to do it with a backdrop like zoot? I know it shouldn't make a difference but psychologically it will be more enjoyable to watch a cast presented by someone who is at least not an ugly repulsive old fart like me for example :D We need to find a husky ex pro female gamer who is a cunning linguist with a great personality. Schpuld also did a very good job. When comparing with todays caster, the one should be selected who has the most understanding of duel.

Crisfnx is the best so far.

not even. crisfnx frequently has nothing to say and the things he did say were cringeworthy. shpuld is the best. he has a good sounding, deep voice and the little comments he makes to fill up time between big events are great.

No way. He's unlistanable. Also crisfnx is the first caster who doesn't feel the need to talk all the time. Which is a huge bonus. The others talk a lot, but it's all filler talk, because THEY have nothing say.

It is not going the right way.. I've been watching monday's GS1 and without zoot&ins it sucks! - would rather watch the games with just the gameplay sounds

I know we should be nice to girls etc.. but she doesn't know what she is talking about, her strategy insights - well she should keep them for herself .. "he took lg", " he killed him", "he has huge stack, maybe he will try to trap a opponent - oh really ?! not mentioning that hard german accent .. blah

super_koziol on the other hand has some vocabulary, his polish accent is noticable but bearable, his insights are maybe slightly better than his co-caster from yesterday.. I just can't stand his faggoty voice and laughter .. laughing like silly dork @ everything + his own "jokes". He was good as support and graphic, ocasionally saying something on the stream but not more that 2 mins pls

Give us real casting with some proper main comentator (like zoot - native speaker, good voice, emotionally attached) + technical commentator who KNOWS what he is talking about - ins is really good in that role, if not him maybe some other PLAYER who actually plays duel at high level

In my opinion Latvietis was the one who had the biggest clue about duelling but they didn't ask him back. Sure he was a bit quiet when he did his tryout but he was nervous and what he did say was usually a high quality insight, which the vast majority of the viewers at the time seemed to appreciate. Quality > quantity. As he warmed into the role he'd make a great cocaster in my opinion.

As for Enjoyka, to be honest I can't help liking her, she's witty and funny, but needs to be paired up with someone who knows the game inside out.

I was also surprised that they didn't give brainie more of a chance, sure he was obviously shitting himself, but actually noone else gave it more of a concerted effort than him, and I'm sure as he settled into it he would have made a good play by play caster.

I like everyone involved, but I agree that the show is just unbearably bad at the moment and doesn't hold my attention for longer than 5 minutes.

Enjoyka's English is just too bad. And her pronunciation. And also -strangely- her intonation. On top of that she wants to talk non-stop. Really no disrespect intended, my Russian would be just as bad, but I'm not trying to cast in Russian.
Maybe she could try to talk less and think more before saying something. But that's extremely hard to do on a live stream where things change continuously.
It's a big pity because she comes across as an extremely wonderful person.

Im glad people are stepping up to cast when there is nobody else to do it. I remember back in the days before zoot started casting when we had zotac streams every week without any caster, which sucked major balls.

To be honest is actually better to have a stream without any casting then have some casters who are this bad.

The product was Zoot and Ins casting. You can't change the product completely but keep the same name.

The casters that are currently "trying" to cast are absolutely horrible. Not only are they lacking Quake skill,but they also bring nothing to the table in terms of casting commentary.

I used to watch Zlive regularly for my Quake fix but with the new amateurs they have on, I can't watch the stream for more than 2 minutes.

It is better for Zoot to just shut down his channel for now until he comes back. But it seems he really likes ze moneys he gets from subcribers and doesnt wanna end that train. He wants to do just enough so people dont unsubscribe.

If the channel will continue in this way it will do more damage than good. It won't be long before the numbers will plummet to 20-30 viewers max.

It is time for someone who "has it" to step up and take this opportunity to build a stream for himself. Zoot is out, you have no competition, if you got it, you will take all the viewers that Zoot has and spare us the mental pain of listening to some noob like Koishol (cant listen to this guy for more than 1 min sry).

And shame on all these amateurs who accepted the opportunity to cast on Zoots stream. Cause they know if they got the ability to cast and have the internet and pc for it they wouldnt need Zoot, they could have started their own stream. It seems this is just an opportunity for some of the community nerds who lack self awareness to get some attention.

The best option for the stream would be for ins + some other high level dueler to cast.

I am sure ins has enough high level duelers on his list to keep him company for casting.

At least this way we will get some insights even if not the best flow.

Zoot or Ins Ins

Not riding any cocks here but Ins was the only thing that ever made zLive watchable in recent times. As time progressed Zoot turned from humble balls-in-one-hand-mic-in-the-other maverick with a "let's do this!" attitude (to whom I gave full support and enjoyed immensely) to a self-centered ego-driven blabbering entitiy (which makes me cringe so hard I've snapped my collarbones several times).

Interrupting Ins with increasing frequency to the point where an almost impulsive "shut up zoot" from Ins was a regular occurence, not to mention the guest appearance zoot had on Faceit next to DDK being just about the most awkward stream I ever watched due to Zoot thinking he was the main attraction, this latest charade of looking for 1200 elo subsitutes to keep the zLive brand alive is just laughable.

Even with cooller vs strenx (!!!),125fps has never been so dull.

In any case the new guy isn't even a 1200. He's got like 5 duel games under his account, with 5 losses in like 3 years or whatever.

I really want to like the new casters and continue to support Zoot, but I can't listen to someone who doesn't even know the very basics of duel and doesn't seem to be trying to play it to learn. I'm a 1200 elo but even I understand way more strategy than the new casters just due to watching duel for the past year or so, and playing 200 games.

Maybe it will get better. But for now I've been watching zorakwar's cast. He's been casting the games lately and he at least knows what he's talking about. No offense to anyone.

Well, I assume you're referring to Shpuld. I've really lost interest in zLive stream lately but from the few times I've tuned in, this guy is the only one I actually like, he's the only one who doesn't come across to me as an attention whore and actually cares about providing some digestible content. His skillz are limited to what he sees on screen, but he isn't irritating. But pair him up with super_koziol, who, as someone mentioned earlier, spends half the time laughing at his own jokes, then it's just bad.

Just like I said in the original zLive recruitment thread, I'd rather any of these guys just went ahead and did their own thing, on their own stream, in their own style. For some reason I think it would make it a lot more bearable rather than having to put up with this "opportunity for some of the community nerds who lack self awareness to get some attention" as our NL anon so accurately defined it. Surprises me that no one actually realises that starting your own stream as a person who isn't 'recognised' is actually pretty difficult.

I'm not trying to 'big up' the Z Live brand to keep to millions of subscribers on board (although, would be nice to keep a couple of million so I can return a few favours to those helping the channel). I'm trying to keep the content somewhat centralised because the hundreds of people who don't look at ESR and threads about new streamers have actually found Z Live at some point in history and worked out there is Quake content there. If you think that me shutting down Z Live and other casters making a new channel is going to offer the game any extra viewers - you're totally deluded. It took me a year of work even when there wasn't that much competition around to get even a couple of hundred viewers in 2011/12.

If you think I'm an attention whore, then fair enough. I couldn't disagree with you more though. I just do on stream what I've learned through my experience and through training that I've had. If you think that I behave off stream the way I do on stream then you're very much mistaken.

If you are going to expect new casters to be top notch as well in a matter of moments as well then you're also mental, I'm hoping that with the month or so I have left I am able to guide them in to a good direction. A pity no other renowned casters have offered themselves or even cast on their own channel more than irregularly, I can't do anything about that.

Really genuinely saddens me that people think I'm trying to be some money grabbing fuck (so much money ololol...) by trying to continue the channel. I want to continue this project because I love the game, I have really enjoyed the process I've been through and would like to continue working on it.

On a further note, I also think that people under-appreciate the actual insight that the new casters have. I'm not suggesting they're giving Rapha like details, not for a moment. But I have picked people who actually know Quake and can offer some level of insight equal to or greater than old play-by-play casters.

Finish guy seems like a nice dude but the finish accent is hard on the ears to say the least.

apart from his hard finish accent he talks like he is half-asleep and his thinking and reaction time to what happens on game is usually so SLOW - someone hits a nice rail - 2 seconds after "Oh nice rail.." etc.

I miss zoot and ins and joe and 2gd and zsx and calipt. Not to drag anyone down i am sure they try their best but i cba to watch zlive anymore. Stream is just boring atm. I still leave stream on in the background just for support, but muted though.

I've been watching the streams this week and I wasn't really disturbed by the new commentators actually, but reading the comments in here, it seems the accent and lack of english skill is a problem for many viewers.

My opinion is they are all ok, but most of the dont have enough duel knowledge to really explain or even predict some situations...not just describing what we all see on the screen: ok, now he got rl, taking red...ok...good rocket...nice rail...Thats not proper commenting, thats something my grandma can do. I believe all of this tryout commentators should work more on details and not just spitting out obvious stuff.

Watch sports, most of it's like that. You usually have one guy that says the obvious stuff (usually zoot) and one guy doing the analytical stuff (usually Ins).

My problem is that half of them can't speak English good enough. Instead of making the experience of watching a complex game easier to navigate, they are making it worse because I'm having to struggle to understand what they are saying. Most of the time I was watching, I found myself hoping that Zoot would but in and do some analysis so I could take a breather!

shpuld is the only new one that's tolerable. i think with some experience and maybe voice training or something he could be good. enjoyka frequently has me yelling "just shut the fuck up already" at my monitor. painful.

Fear best caster and it wasn't even close...others need lots more practice and game knowledge.

Also zorakwar has been casting 125fps on his channel and it has been really good.

Fear is good because he's a native speaker and is entertaining without trying to be entertaining.
Shpuld is calm, decent, overall good.

was fear not just subbing or something? fear has a lot of casting experience and is/was a highly ranked (pro, i think?) ctf player, of course he's better than everyone else.

Yeah I know, fear is one step ahead of all other casters sunday casters.

And unfortunately he's just subbing, not really planing to cast every day

I miss the ins and zoot dream team

having not been around for when they first started I can't comment on what their virgin casting skills were like, perhaps the new casters could improve in a comparable way (if applicable)!

at the moment they are all miles off imo

I think having experienced duelers would be very beneficial to give some depth

ZSX and NVC would be great!

what about ins actually? I really miss his casting =(
