Municipal waste is probably the worst metal band at the moment. Shit pizza/zombie thrash with weak vocal and weak riff, dunno why ppl are listening to them instead of the like of Vektor
have you noticed that Nu Metal has some "rapping" style in the songs? that might be the answer to your question, i guess of course, i have thought about it too..
it was a rhetorical question :) Nu-metal is all youth culture, agressiveness and teenage-appealing kind of badassery in place of music. Very few songs in nu metal are quality art.
i have the same opinion, but many Nu Metal bands have influence in our tr00 heavy metal that we like so much. i just can't believe that somebody likes Slipknot.. :/
It's nothing particular. I can understand why in the realm of metal it may appear relatively fresh but that's because the genre is so focused on itself it has barely evolved in 20 years.
The 2nd half of Black Future is where the journey begins. Half of their catalog is stuff they wrote almost 10 years ago, their album coming out will be fresh material.
Metal is in a state of taking newer ideas and applying it to old sounds. There's roads left unfinished developmentally. Once this is done, worlds will really start to collide.
Vektor are pushing boundaries of Thrash not metal as a whole i'll give you that, you need to be "deep" into this subgenre to appreciate and understand how fresh and uncommon their music is.
If you want to listen something really innovative try the band Melechesh, they're mixing black/thrash with Mesopotamian/Assyrian/Sandnigger drum pattern and melodies, and their Emissaries LP fuckin slay
Meshuggah used to be thrash. Contradictions Collapse, None, Destroy Erase Improve. Thrash doesn't necessarily imply strong hardcore influences.
I bought Sphynx in 03 or 04, the whole Mesopotamian thing got incredibly annoying after a while so I never cared for their next records. I get used to things and bored of them really fast.
Old Meshuggah is definitely very thrashy.
If you're looking for someone to push the boundaries of Metal as a whole, we've got Amogh Symphony releasing an album pretty soon.
More like Yesterday's Children/Randy Holden/Stress.
You both mentioned Metallica. They definitely changed the world for Metal, alright. Black Album turned mainstream metal into bands like Five Finger Death Punch. Thanks, Metallica. We appreciate it.
faerie_, you're not a Lenny Troo Frasher, are you?
Listen to more, get the whole picture. Vektor's only problem so far is album flow.
I've never heard anyone call Vektor boring, coming from any perspective, even old man jazz enthusiasts.
Stuff that still sounds fresh despite being 10-15 year old : Thorns s/t, Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza ( which I don't actually like ), Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God, The Amenta - Occasus.
I think the most recent thrash record I heard that felt like it brought something different was the None ep by Meshuggah and it's 20 years old.
They're very generic and I've only ever listened to an entire album once or twice... but Holy Hell do their live shows carry an energy like no other. I'll go see them live in a heartbeat.
