I have posted this many times, yet you all don't believe it: black ops 2 (omg a cod) is very similar to Q3/QL.

Yup, they're pretty fast paced...imo much faster than Q3/QL, i wanted to buy BO2, but since its still ~50? bucks or so ... no. I played it on the free weekend and went like rank 1-3 all the time on the pubs (oh yeah im so pro)...its easy as fuck nontheless. But if u take it serious and play 5v5 scrims and leagues its probably pretty sweet, without all the gadget and atomic bomb stuff after u kill 2 people in a row.

It's nice to see that you can jump and stuff but are players really gonna do it? They'll learn fast enough that they become easy targets this way. In Quake, players don't rocket jump when they don't feel it's safe to do it. You don't see rocket jumps often in FFA. Isn't COD too chaotic to predict where the enemies are and aren't the maps too open for that?

You know what was funny? When I played (back in 2009) 1v1 vs a national team player of my country in CoD 4, after having like 100 hours of playtime (he had THOUSANDS in his XFire profile) at max and it was a really close game. Heck, I didn't even wear headphones and didn't really bother sneaking (which led to my loss in the end; too much noise <-> his headphones). Now that's lol - and I'm only mid-skill in Quake.

I have no doubt a decent quake player would be able to get decent at cod4 faster than others but that's a terrible example.

Care to explain why? Mid-skiller quaker almost beats a national player w/o proper sound and +forward-/care "strategy" with barely 100 hours of play time.

There ARE some map knowledge elements in CoD (not just the location of spawn points). Ofc not as much as in Quake, but if you deny that, you are lying (or clueless - or intentionally exaggerate).

Also played promod with "high skilled" people on private servers, hadn't felt myself out of the place at all. They were actually surprised when I told them during a friendly chat that how little I played the game. Funny thing is (it stucked in my mind) when I said I play Quakes for like more than a decade tho, the reaction was "ah, makes sense then". lololo

Again, THIS IS NOT ME BEING AWESOME, but kind of an indicator how low is the skill cap there - and how awesome Quake is.

It was 5 years ago, don't remember his name. I played CoD 4 only for a short amount of time, and since I wasn't zealously interested in the scene, I didn't bother to take notes. A bit later, I saw some (ClanBase I think) VODs with him tho, which reassured me again.

It comes down to perspective and FPS experience in general, not to which game is superior.

A good cs player will stomp in pub ffa QL servers, or can easily win in an event that wasn't advertised among the QL community. Beating non top players is not an achievement and isn't an indicator on how competitive an activity is, nor about skill caps or about the level in general.

Lets put a closer example, QL in particular. Here what a new player to the game sees is tier2 or tier3 lolca or lolffa. Would you say a server with guys that can't move and shoot at the same time is an indicator of QL skill level as a whole?
Furthermore here the high/top level is even more hidden than in other games. Here it's only in duel in private servers, using a hidden ranking that's not in the game (qlranks), in tdm pickups (irc organized) or in cups hosted by russians, advertised only in some really small website. People that don't find about that will think they are the best, but no one outside QL finds about that stuff, nor did you in CoD.

What you found in CoD were the equivalent of the guys that can't rocket jump in QL, or the 1400 elo tryhards in clanbase. Just like in your example, someone from outside can't really tell how good or bad the level of QL is.

Finally, all games and sports are mostly played by noobs, including the actual hard stuff (not some videogame where with aim alone you can be 2k elo), and a specialist of one activity will be the best at it, since no one is the best at everything. That's how everything is really and why despite "our superiority" not a single quake player still hasn't achieved a single thing outside the 'arena' fps subgenre, nor the "slow" fps subgenre players achieving anything here.

I think you missed some paragraphs though. Those games (with like 100, max. 150 hours of playtime, which is basically nothing in a competitive environment) vs. national team-level player and other "high skillers" (NOT pub - for a metaphor; organized, friendly games with around +25 rating / 2000-2200 elo TDMers on pickup) can be an indicator. That the game is fucking easy.

That's the whole point: in cod4 we can roflstomp pub servers and easy scrims....until someone half-decent comes and rapes us into oblivion. Everything is like that and that's why no master race quaker has achieved anything outside here, despite other games were fucking easy, right.

And to be honest QL is not a master race level game at all. Here you can be 2k elo in duel, tdm, you name it, with aim alone. If there was a master race game in quake it was QW, but QL really is the LoL of quake games.

even in CA you are going to be shut down at 2k elo level if you did not play that mode, simply because you do not know how and where to position yourself.

Of course 5v5 does require map knowledge, 1v1 on the other hand, NOBODY plays that.

As I said, you already had a decent base coming from Quake but it works other way around too, I'm a former cod2/4 player and when I started playing Quake (early 2011 but I've been watching streams/reading ESR since 2009, just never got around to playing) I was ruining lives in FFA/mid-tier CA. I have 4 days played on my current account, and about a day on my old account which got deleted and I regularly outdamage people with 5k+ games played. (Using lolca as an example simply because of how different duel is, I can handle around 1500 ELO with 200 odd duels played.)

Pub is ridiculous in every game, Quake is no exception (well, QW might be : D).

FFA and CA is the worst in this case.

In the former, so many people, who played like 5-10k games and they suck so bad it's almost painful to watch; bad movement, even worse aim, metagame close to zero - and they will never improve.
FFA games, where you can find players like Bunnye, med1xza, hateme, Zyrinx, NOOBAKILLAH, Weird, x1ks, sya_ and guys like that - that's a different story. Those are enjoyable stuff, you have to work for your win.

The latter (pub CA) is overcrowded with sub-20acc clueless hiders. Ruining their lives is not really a demanding task tbh (most likely they will ruin yours with their utmost uselessness : D) - just as CoD pub.

This is why I didn't really take pub into account when I first mentioned some CoD experiences.

However; have you tried some TDM pickup for example? Most people actually have a good clue on how to play there.

Hey nvc, would have to agree, its pretty similar for the feel with cod black ops mostly being about running around with smgs. Got to love taking everyone out on nuke with an assault rifle and aim though :). Was a great event to attend with some mates, hope Scan do more in the future. Just make sure they do Quake next time so we can get everyone there :D

repetitive? singleplayer games with a linear campaign are repetitive. multiplayer based games where other players are the obstacle to overcome are like the least repetitive kind of game there is. infact they are so "non repetitive" that people are easily doing the basic goal (win the round/match) thousands of times until they get bored of it.
