demo suffix has always represented protocol version
new suffix, new protocol
new protocol = old demo's dont work.
you'll have to use wolfcam to watch old demos.

hopefully someone will write a converter, or wolfcam will eventually just support both protocols.

There will be reasons they changed it, it's something they *really* do not lightly.

It's changed 3 times iirc publicly in QL. but maybe not since it came out of beta, I forget.

Yes there's several years of demo's that you may have, this does increase the chance they might spend some time on trying to add backwards compatability, but I'm posting about how you can deal with it NOW.

installed wolfcum -> tried to watch some demos -> always crashed while loading the demo. it loads until "awaiting snapshot" and then nothin happens for 10 secs and after that it crashes.

same happens with the user friendly wolf whisperer.

There is currently support for both dm_68 and dm_73 protocols, and I'm sure soon dm_90.

I just hope brugal is actively developing wolfcam. (<3<3<3)

It's open source with copyleft license. Do it yourself if you don't like author's pace.

everything regarding demos from before and after the major patch that included the protocol change is still a very big mess.

quakelive plays only new demos, no old ones

wolfcam plays old ones but not new ones

wolfcam plays quake3 demos but only after you batch it



think about it..
i wanted to make a fragmovie with ql demos and some old quake3 demos that i just found on a backup ..but the demo playback situation is quiet discouraging.

Update your wolfcam..

Update wolfcam from it's official sourceforge site.

QLDT was updated by Lam to support the new format also.

uberdemotools has not only worked with dm90 for a while, but also has demo conversion now.
