what mod are you going to play? some have the ability to have custom huds some dont...

I was hoping to make a pk3 that i load through either A) console or B) commandline in regular Quake3. What are the commands for that?

Would be easier if you posted an SS of the Q3 hud you're looking for, then maybe we can consider how to go about creating it.

I wouldn't expect QL to have everything that's needed. It has gone through a lot of changes.

Everything you need is in QL's pak00.pk3, which can now just be renamed to .zip and opened, the important directories being \ui and \ui\assets

The default hud is hud.menu, and it shows you the path to its assets.

I don't know how custom huds work in Q3A, from what I can tell by default they don't. You have to actually enable hud scripting by compiling some special sections of the source.

However something like ioquake3, or cnq3 probably has the functionality ready to go, and there are probably tutorials online that explain how to make use of it.

If so the hud scripting is likely very very similar, and as long as you provide the assets it has a decent chance of working.

So pak12.pk3\ui\assets isn't relevant? Only pak00.pk3\ui?

Team Arena, unlike q3a, does have that HUD.menu file which I'll try to replace.
I am running ioquake3 but afaik it doesn't support custom hud unless you're playing a mod (which i'm not).

The hud is entirely drawn by the mod code.

The "mod" called Team Arena implemented a new way of drawing the hud which allowed it to be scripted. As id released the source to this, any mod which based itself on TA can therefore use these types of hud scripts. However, very few mods were created which supported the new UI structure, since it was a lot of hassle for mod coders to move over to the new style, or would have required players to also own TA.

QL's UI is based upon the TA version of the UI, although I am sure that there are changes which aren't supported by Q3 (eg the new widescreen support).

The CPMA mod implements it's own hud scripting language called "superhud" (after many years of configuring it via hud_* cvars), with some of the concepts from the TA / Q4 huds..

Note that even if you were to tailor baseq3 to use the TA ui with the media from QL so that you get it to have a QL-like hud (ie, making your own "mod" of the UI portion), you won't be able to use this once you're connected to a server running a different mod.

If you're running locally on your own server / vs bots or something, then I guess you could basically create a mod on top of TA. Create yourself a folder called "qlui", put in there a pk3 containing all the assets from QL's hud that you need. Launch q3 with +set fs_basegame missionpack +set fs_game qlui. Note that you'd probably need to either tweak the scripts to resolve issues where they've been enhanced in QL, or you'll need to update the Q3TA version of UI.qvm to support any new features required by the hud.

The main menu (from OP) loads fine, only demos and quit buttons work, options and back doesn't do nothing.
The QL hud kind of loads in Q3 but it's not working at all, see screens.
