But reflex has air control, I dont like air control, will be cool for all the cpm players tho, but we all know cpm never was the biggest quake playerbase.

Quake4 has the perfect flow balance imo with crotchsliding :)

I feel like now it's more about around game experience.
Solid fundaments for solid game.
QL went to shit and Q4 doesn't have these fundaments.
I would love to try Q4 online though (of course without thinking about any problems like a total scrub)

I dont like AC as much as vanilla but I really enjoyed what I played of Reflex. I would prefer a non air control game though.

Last I saw Reborn will have non AC physics but has capabilities for AC and crouch sliding (maybe for certain robots). You can currently turn them on in the .txt files. Not sure how hes intending to handle it all but it could be an awesome mix

There is a command to "compensate" the ping for user and for server, and you have to match them all and even doing it the rails are like in QL, just goes through the guy and doesnt hit the guy. Or you are just jumping and the guy shoots you (as if he has better ping than you) the user plus server will have to "compensate it" and you just "MOVE" backwards to the point you were jumping and you get hit but the rail (this is like in a fast action moment, like you are leaving the combat, etc).

So if the RG stuff happens in QL also then its not a detrimental point when comparing both, right?

I guess you mean net_clientPrediction? Don't fiddle with that, it doesn't work the way I expect you think it does. If you have a ping < 100, using cg_unsmoothclients 2 and the default net_clientPrediction should be "ok". You will see players warp a bit when they are dodging, but the prediction is accurate enough that most rails should hit the player if you see it hit on screen. (I've tested this by building an "auto-shoot" bot into a test build and it got a very high accuracy).

Ping is inevitable and you cannot completely remove it's effects. With a hitscan weapon like the RG, there is nothing that you can do about this. If you are 50ms away from the server, and you have already been shot according to the server, a minimum of 50ms will go by before your client knows that fact so it will continue to let you move beyond that point. What would you rather it do, tell the other player "sorry, his ping is too high so your shot doesn't count even though you hit according to your screen and also according to the server"?

The only thing that is different in Q4 is that it forward predicts everything (incl other player movements) by ping/2 so that what you're seeing is closer to in sync with the server, so the "ping back" effect is perhaps slightly more than in other games which don't have as accurate a prediction of the server model. However it is this forward prediction that makes the first issue less noticable than in other games (hence why there was lots of "omg hitbox too big, rails too easy!!!111!!" whine, especially once I'd found + removed the smoothing that was deliberately put in to prevent players from warping [at the cost of accuracy of player positions]).

I have practiced like 8 hours a day in LAN and like 1 or 2 hours in between 1/2 days online and it is just too different, it is less than PK but it is still very different, this "issue" about where you get hit by the opponent and you goes backwards a little bit happens even with 20ms, you maybe too "adapted" to what you are doing then the game that you see will be different than mines, also it has happened from a LONG damn time ago, back in 2007, so they might have done something better to the netcode probably. And I do remember that they decreased *put it shorten* the hitbox if I am sure.

This command netclientprediction is bugged, you must match yours to the server in order to the game have the better condition to play in.

Q4 is pretty much dead.

If the whole hardcore community moves back to Q4 it will be as alive as QL is today, without id being able to do whatever they want with the game we play.

q4 had a wicked player presence, I would be up for some of it :)

I always liked the unreleased q4max version where you could adjust the team colours (inc. map textures etc) on the fly to your taste. Never got the time / enthusiasm to get the release tidied up and ready to ship.

Not going to happen any time soon though, given I now have a 1 year old and another one due soon...

I am support Quake4 any way, this is the best FPS shooter ever created =).

not so dead there is many players, they play in various times
and also we quake4 funs separated by versions

"Version 1.0.0" (New players is rarely appear here, still can be brought at amazon or ebay)

"Version 1.4.2"

"Version 1.4.3" (Costs "$12.59 USD" not so expensive now, and this is exellent start of playing quake4 multiplayer. You can connect to version 1.4.2 servers. Yes sometimes servers appear, its steam quake4 re-release in 2010 year and Mac OSX re-release in same year)

and two demo versions 1.0.0 and 1.4.2 teir servrs with player appear from time to time.

So as you see there is enough players at Quake4 just separated by 5 various versions, and i have them all, i can play Quake4 any time at multiplayer, always someone is playing =)
