Only if they released it with up to dated graphics, ragdoll physics, gore, all content unlockeable free with experience points (LOL type), matchmaking, the original announcer... aka not ruining Q3 but improving on it, then maybe people would stay for more than a couple weekends.
And when you crash your car with 200 km/h into a concrete wall after wrecking a truck and 3 airplanes with your hood, you just get out of the driver's seat and run away. Volvo pales in comparison.
Dumbass logic. Compromising gameplay in favour of realism, that's a big mistake, and that's what makes a game shitty.
Now adding high definition graphics, high end effects, and ragdoll physics so it doesn't feel like it's 1998, to render unrealistic, awesome gameplay of Quake, that's an objective improvement, it would only improve the game, and it is necessary in 2014. Whenever I show a frag video to my friends they are dissapointed when they play the game because it doesn't look as cool with all the effects and high resolution texture packs and what not.
Just imagine blasting a guy in the ztn teleport in the stairs and seeing the corpse roll down the stairs. That would be cool to see, makes the game behave as expected in 2014 and doesn't even fucking break the gameplay.
As a newbie when I was a kid I got hooked to Q3 because of the gore, brutal action and amazing graphics and nice effects and playing around in DM17 blowing people in the air with a railgun. Years later im a high tier duel player that plays with picmip 5.
Now, had the game had visuals of effects from a decade ago, would it have pleased my newbie mind as much? would i have stick with it? nope.
I always preferred gameplay and atmosphere over GFX, even when I was 14 years old (aka when Q3 came out). That's why I play games from the 8 / 16 bit era even nowadays (besides QL / QW and one or two - NOT MAINSTREAM - PS3 titles here and there).
Not just that, but because they are cool as shit. Imagine someone coming through the tele and going fast towards the red armour on ztn and then popping them with a rail in the chest or head and seeing them flop onto the red ledge and fall down
i see your points, but some are based on old info ie. i am not longer a mod, since my time was very limited untill a few months ago. I only try to contribute now, like i did at the base start of QL and in beta and that is gathering links n stuff, so people don't need to search the whole www to get some.
FYI He was banned for cheating and i had no intension in trolling, that was an honest question, since i saw his tutorials on positioning, which tbh are important tutorials, if more people knew about it, there wouldn't be so much wh accusations.
In quake live history i met alot of clever lads, who wanted to help the game, you included, but i noticed that even if they had good bright ideas, if they didn't put those ideas in a perspective or in the atmosphere developers or bussnismen work in, then those ideas simply went out of the window.
I know rootsra for example he had some fun ideas, i even played in a clan with him for a little while and talked to him and he is a normal and a good guy, but when he thinks his ideas are not seen like he imagines it, he goes up the wall like spiderpig.
And insted of normal reasonable conversation where you have an opened minded conversation with a person and their ideas, people start trolling/bashing/reverting to zhu.
TL:DR
What i am trying to say is people should have some level of patience when trying to convey their arguments and try to communicate in a way that is shown in their arguments, that they understand some portion of devs perspective.
My english isn't the best i know, but i tryed to anwser your question why people think some of the critiziem was so called "sweeped" - lack of knowledge on how to communicate inside the boundaries they are in. Yes even if on the internet, you still need to follow some "moral rules" if you want to enjoy the benefits of a particular community.
TL; DR 2
People, goddmanit ... start communicating better and with-in certain logical boundaries. :)
Speaking of the QL forums.. they've been down since friday. What the fuck is this?
One of the biggest weeks this game has had or will ever have and you can't even access support forum if you need to. Good image to show new players, id. Too much negative feedback? Too much traffic(lol)?
When typing this, I thought 'wait, maybe I got banned from forums(for no apparent reason)...' Checked on my phone's LTE. Nope. Not banned. Just down. For going on what is the 5th straight day, now. Yeah.
The other thing is, the Steam Quake Live forum is up and running and it's getting a flogging, so I doubt they'd be concerned with their own forums at the moment...
it'll probably fluctuate up / down with a reasonable uptrend for a couple of days. After which it'll do the same process in reverse, only slower. Untill some stable number around the 2.5k will be reached.
the question is, why would any of these new players buy it? id got the people they wanted, still they arent offering anything for them to pay for lol. the business model is so fucking pants on head retarded.
