I don't really 1v1 and never even played sinister, but why do people like it? It seems like a blah map

Angles, it can be played quite fast, especially given it's size, and it doesn't have a definitive play style.

how could you possibly judge a map when you don't really play duel and never even played the map? It's lots of people's favourite map.

You can judge anything by any amount of exposure. The only thing matters is the weight of your judgement. Mine weights none in this case..

What I love about Sinister is that I get a quite oldschooly Q3-feeling playing it. Which means: I can move around quickly without it being suicide, I can use control to choke/push the enemy without it being suicide, there are many cool angles/routes to use; in general it's things like these. The map feels like Quake.

I usually don't like the newer maps because they try to be "balanced", but they force that by breaking the game as I learned it in Q3. Take Cure for example: It's more about hogging/defending corners and levels than Sinister, which means that it's harder to push and to play fast and to get angles on opponents. Also, the positions of the main items are not only strategically weak (as they should be), but rather death traps (which makes the game more random and/or slows down the game significantly, since you have to check for possible opponent's position).

IMO if my opponents gives me the full control and I have 200/200 and he spawns with nothing, it SHOULD be hard for him to get into the game again. At the same time, if he gets the control back, he should be the one with the advantage and be able to get the frags back again. That for me is Quake. If you have two opponents on the same level, then the balance automatically emerges from them playing the game. It is not artificially forced by the map, which gives false balance to not evenly leveled players, just because one is more patient in using the map's "balancing".

But some people like to whine about maps being not balanced if they cannot consistently bust a 200/200 opponent by defending/hogging corners/teles/positions on items. Those people usually like Cure and have a harder time on Sinister.

Btw: Even though it might have sounded like that, I didn't intend to hate against Cure and I don't want it to be dropped entirely. It's a map with its own pro and con points and its own playstyle, but I am really happy to see Sinister in pools because it "balances" out Cure being there ;)

Seriously though, the map is great and it does indeed feel like Quake. More so than most other maps.

Imo one of the best duel maps atm.

Well that's no bloody good, it's only gonna be useful for the first guy who changes his nick to tomahawk. And what's with the hashed metal? That'll fuck your mouse up in no time.

And that bloody "tomahawk mousepad" levitates above any surface in a height of 1 inch and thats a hell to adjust to.

the mousepad is not a G-CM or G-TF - it has a different surface and is considerably bigger, hence why it is RARE.

also, those surfaces eventually get flat, mine did after a few days.

There are 3 Sunday cups scheduled like this for now. We've made sure there won't be any clashes - wouldn't make sense to let that happen :)

Why not prize is some mouse? Is zowie so poor or greedy? Or may be quakelive auditory is so big enought only for some mousepad? Does it make streamer feels so useless when he streams tourney with mousepad as prize for free? Or he has xxx$ for streams or some mousepads?

you obviously didn't notice 100 bucks prize for every cup. mousepad is a bonus for most solid performance in all 3 cups

this is the closest to the best mappool for me.
As much as i love DM13, whenever i see the Raphas of this world play it, i just understand he had his moments and the map did his course in this life.. I feel like sinister is less strategic than Lost World but it's a worthy substitute and there's the possibility DM13 was just too defensive (i still love the map so much).

Aerowalk is just timeless. I know the same argument can be applied here, in regards of Cypher (the map has no secrets for him). The big difference is that Hub is played and it's loved by many players and the most amazing games always happens on the map. The feel of the map is unique. Hub is also, very often, the first map aimers from other mods use to get into dueling..

Cure is the other "fast" map.. Honestly it isn't fast at all, but it rewards great aimers and ppl who can really punish the others for showing up at the items. The map is unique as well in modern mappool and it's yet to be completely figured out.

T7 it's the QL map. I really don't see a balanced mappool without it to be the middle map, connecting the slower\tactical to the faster\aiming world

The cup has a mappool with the 5 most popular ql maps and players are raping their map picks? If that actually happened that seems more coincidental than anything to me. Most 2200+ elo players are pretty evenly skilled on all those maps...

to be honest I don't see anything wrong with pick pick, so what if you rape on your best map, the opponent has an equal chance with his best map then you both drop for a tiebreaker. I think it's fair.

And like twister said, above 2200 ELO map picks aren't as important. You should be able to play any map.

It's just boring to watch if only the third map is a nail biter.

And what about rest of the players? Even 2200+ (which consists of 10 relevant players?) has their favorite maps where they have big edge over others at their skill level. Drop-drop forces people play maps where their skill level is more equal providing more interesting sets. 5 most popular maps doesn't mean that people wont grind only 2 of them. You know, effectiveness of playstyles varies between maps.

Well the top players are the only ones really relevant to what you are saying because in earlier rounds you usually have top player vs mid player matchups in which if anything pick pick makes games interesting as the weaker player can play his best map against the strong player. And in my experience what you are saying about top players having favorite maps where they are much stronger than on others just isnt true. At a certain level which map you play doesn't make a big difference anymore as long as you know it.

Oke, lets put it other way then. Against a certain opponent your opponent's weakest map against you (doesn't have to be overall weakest) becomes your strongest map against him. It's naive to think that top doesn't want to avoid certain maps against other top. It's also very naive to think that top doesn't have a significant advantage on some maps compared to others. There is a reason why certain maps get dropped against certain players so "doesn't make a big difference" doesn't really apply.

This was fun, i even got seeded within someone 5 places of me, i was none the less out classed and abused the second they smelt blood like a shark.
