Loadouts kill TDM. Every single other change could have happened and it still would be "playable" for me. I mean seriously even 5 second weapon respawn is a HUGE change that I could get used to for this one very key reason:

TDM is about area control. Item control is not nearly as important (usually) as weapon control. By allowing players to spawn with weapons of their choice you effective destroy part of the game type.

Are you retarded for liking it? Absolutely not. But for players like myself you are changing the "name of the game" entirely by adding load outs and changing the rest of it. the "Pie Chart" timers don't bother me. And I think I could even get used to no friendly fire (LAME) because I understand how it could be frustrating for a new player. But the loadouts? no ... its awful.

tdm is fucking stupid with weapon drops as it is, imo loadouts just improve the situation.

Loadouts make pub TDM popular and playable. Back in the open beta days there were 2 versions of TDM, one with Pro weapon respawn times and one with 5s respawn times (iirc). For some reason, Id decided to have only 1 version and they settled on Pro. Not surprisingly everyone stopped playing apart from those who liked pickups.

Personally I think there's room for both. 30s weap respawns with no loadouts is probably the pinnacle of Quake but you've got to provide a ladder to let people get to it.

Why do rails do 80 damage? Hell I dunno but its the standard so it stays =P

I love TDM. Always have always will. It was my bread and butter in Unreal and even though I came to Quake "late" it is my favorite game mode. I do however hate that I have to play PUGs or PUBs because 4v4 TDM at a Clan vs Clan level is totally different. That said if the changes bring more players to TDM that is fantastic. I do not agree with loadouts at all, in any game mode of quake. Zero second weapon respawns (weapons are just always there) make more sens to me. I can argue this until I am blue in the face but I do not personally think that load outs have a place in FPS (arena).

They would have gotten the same results with the old ruleset imo.

i always wanted to play tdm before the changes but it was always empty. the only few games of it i did play i really like it, it was really like a survival game and you had to be careful and resourceful. 100x better than ca. but no one was playing it.

now it is really busy which is cool but it is just ffa with teams now. from what i see this is the gametype which has been affected the most from the changes. at least team damage should have been left therei think. this is what did attract me to it the most because it is not just spam, it was more fun to aim properly and try not to hit your team, put yourself into correct position to 2v1 with lg instead of just beep beep! coming through!

tdm = ffa with teams always.

on the other hand, ctf is the ubermensch mode.
