I didn't think it was possible to dumb down LoL but Blizzard managed to do it with Heroes of the storm. Looks like the FPS genre is next...no doubt it will be the most played FPS.
I guess my comment comes across as harsh. It's hard to draw any final conclusions yet. What I've seen is a cross between TF2 and MOBA's, with some superhero global taskforce theme. I am sceptical about having 3 skills + an ultimate per character in an FPS, like in MOBA's. A few skills looked nice like the hook but others like wallhack or the guy spinning around shooting anything around looked very "noskill".
I'm disappointed by everything Blizzard has done since WoW and what they've done to WoW for that matter. Up until WoW everything they made was top notch but the merger with Activision changed that from my perspective.
Pretty much the only modern games I enjoy are indie games since most modern games suffer from the same thing as most Hollywood movies imo, dumbed down for the masses. Most games I play are from before 2004 :]
In the past I used to hate this kinda game, but nowadays I kinda find it good, I think this is one of the reasons why LoL and Dota are so popular. Think about it. (honestly i prefer to choose to play qw, ut or "arena fps games" but i think i have to give it a try)
the concept is cool but it seems to be poorly executed. the characters don't fit with each other. loads of autoaim, aoe, no skill bullshit and the cartoonish theme is getting old. this is basically tf3 except if valve had made this the characters would be more fleshed out, cohesive, and unique, and the gameplay more tight. it's also most likely going to be f2p, which probably means hours of grinding to get a complete experience.
overall i'm disappointed. i expect more from blizzard. sloppy.
Definitely looks cool! Very casual of course but I hope they have enough skill elements in there to keep it competitive. With blizzard behind it I guess we can expect some huge tournaments too. Could be a chance for us deathmatch players to show some of the skill we all keep talking about?
they already play Halo with controllers on ESL.TV pretending that it is some kind of esports, sure this one will have tournaments if Blizz throw some bucks in.
The only thing I know about hearthstone is that it looks boring as shit. I tried checking out a couple videos. Looks, well, boring as shit.
Anyway, I was only trying to have some fun. No offense meant. That's why I said 'Sorry.' Though, offense meant or not, reflex will never succeed in the way that oh-so-many people want it to. :D
I am curious, though(genuine questions incoming. no sarcasm intended): Where do you expect reflex to end up? You hype the fuck out of it, so, I'm curious. Do you think there will be big lans? Do you think there will even be 1,000 unique steam players, once it's been officially 'released(out of alpha/beta stages) for 1 year? 2,000? 20,000? What?
Or is it just something you want to play, want to be successful, even though the odds are horribly stacked against it? I'm honestly curious. Because, this is what I see, as someone that only pays attention a small part of the time when people bring it up on ESR:
I like Reflex and got best wishes for it. But I don't really belive of its success or any other arena fps. The whole thing about ql > cpm makes me laugh. Wow QL with 1k players max, really impressive. WHole genre seems to be dead.
Yes, it was something that I wanted to play and to be successful. But even if it doesnt have any chance for success there is no reason to have hype for dumbed down looking as shit fps from blizzard. There are other fps to play or other games.
the time of arena fps games seems to passed away. Today players are not expecting anything like this. Reflex could be great game but still any shittier CoD will gather much more players.
Best chances got Quake 5 or UT44 probably.
PS. Heartstone is so boring that I couldnt finish tutorial...

AHA! SO YOU ADMIT IT! You tell me go back to hearthstone but it was YOU that actually spent money on it! You're a phony! A BIG FAT PHONY!!!!@312!!!!
:D:D
Okay, moving along to my actual reply...
I have not heard of this Q5. UT games, are they ever wildly popular(edit: when compared to other fps at their times of release)? I was under the impression that it was the engine that most were stoked about, as opposed to the game. UT is a clunky piece of shit(imo). I hate the movement. I know that it is not quake and I'm not saying it should be like quake. I'm saying I hate the clunky-ass movement. =\
> the time of arena fps games seems to passed away.
I hate that sentence because it's been true for a good while. Things are just hanging on, anymore. I'm concerned about what will happen to arena fps, too. QL will surely die sooner than I'd like. Then what? Go back to Q3? Fuck that. The community will just die before everyone goes back to Q3. QW? Doesn't seem likely, either. So, we're left with 2GD that will never make a game that he told everyone he would. Reflex, which, we've already covered. A failed-soon-after-release UT4(by 'soon,' I don't see major lans after 2 years, max. plus i won't play it so whatever). And a Q5 that I've never heard about from id software.
CS:GO isn't 1.6. Source is awful. I swear to go it looks to me like in 2 years or less, I'll be play hello kitty adventure island. =(((
Lastly, about the blizzard game: We haven't even seen real gameplay of it, unless I missed a video? Their reveal was obviously not actual gameplay, of course. It's meant to explain it.
While many hate blizzard and what they did to SC2, Diablo 3 and the last WoW expac(though, it would seem that millions and millions seem to love it, still), I can't discount a company that was entertained me for literally thousands of hours. I give myself 15% chance of actually playing overwatch, but, I can hope and know that, if I do, there will sure as hell be a massive playerbase compared to QL. xD
Overwatch gameplay http://youtu.be/RFe6PCQiAWA
looks very boring, weapon & shooting things feelings looks really bad. Really I prefer to play TF2 or Dirty Bomb instead of Overwatch... probably Dirty Bomb will fail for the same reason as arena fps games.
There is no big hype for any arena fps game. Doom 4 will got probably earlier release. Q5 probably not in development. But omg its id, its zenimax and stuff. so who cares.
I hate clunky movement too, and Reflex feels much better than UT. But still UT will probably gather more audience.
CSGO is quite fun but 1.6. was better and impossible to play alone in long term.
Also games like Overwatch cant be compared to Quake in any way.
Oh, I didn't know it's F2P. Guess that shows how much I was into it. lol
I have played TF2, a few years ago. But it wasn't competitive. Just pubs with lots of people. It gets boring being a decent spy, after a while. No one spy checks as Pyro or anything else, really. And spy was my favorite class. Speaking of class, reborn has classes, too, I guess. blah.
You're right. UT will get more players just on the back of their franchise, alone. No matter how bad it ends up being.
Thanks for the video. I'm gonna check it out. Yay for can't sleep at 3:30 in the morning.
edit: I really like the spectator abilities. Being able to 3rd person cam at teles, high vantage points, lots of places. That was interesting. Seems like there's lotsa options when speccing.
X-ray: Channeled. Gives the user the ability to see enemies through walls for up to 8 seconds. Immobilizes the user. Channel may be cancelled at any time. (5 Minute cooldown)
I dont usually like class based games and a lot of the elements shown are typically things I dont like. But if its affordable then I will still enjoy it for <10 hours or something I guess.
It fits in the same catagory as stuff like loadout, tf2, dirty bomb. Fun games, wouldnt play for many hours unless friends keep inviting me to play.
but the gameplay, looks too random and messy to me
i like the simplicity of quake better. Ofc it's only the 1st trailer but still, quake is still the king and will stay for ever :D (also reflex <3)
I guess overwatch won't take much skill to play, will be more a strategical fps with a lot of team work, basically LoL but in 1st person. I'm not a fan of this kind of fps, i prefer fps that involve A LOT of personal skill... like quake :) (and maybe to some extent CS)
i'm not really a fan of tf2 either. I still like the graphics a lot but i think it's just a dumbed down version of team fortress classic.
anyway i'm not particularly a fan of "objective fps", except CS and RTCW and enemy territory. I like when it involves mainly individual skills over "strategy" or anything like that.
Not sure why some people are being overly harsh with it, it looks like it could be a fun game with cool concepts.
I like the fact it's not going to be a simple and straight shooter like CoD/BF and it's going to focus on having a lot of playtime.
I can't be the only one who gets annoyed by roundbased games where you have to wait for a while everytime you die.
I also like the fact they didn't go for over realistic graphics, looks neat and clean unlike CS:GO on which it's difficult to spot an enemy in certain spots at first glance.
We will have to wait and see how it plays out but I'm looking forward to this.
6v6 is too many in my opinion though. That's the one downside for me so far.
6v6 is needed because of the class structure - you can't have a rock > paper > scissors game without that many players per team. In fact, chances are half the classes will be underutilized in 6v6 too.
Like TF2, these sorts of games are fundementally broken, you can only expect them to work in a set metagame. None of the freedom you have in deathmatch FPS.
Any unrealistic fps game with actual esports potential is good for us. Plus if you dont like it nor other similar games then just dont play them, no need for criticizing them especially if it is only because you just dont, but be warned that esports as a whole is on its historical peak by far and that quake-only people are missing it out.
I havent watched any gameplay footage but the description is good enough to try the game out: it has a sniper class with a grappling hook.
not all things are great amazing originality that hardened Quakers can't understand. Some of the things are actually imbalanced, boring and shallow. Many of those things happen to use the same rock > paper > scissors recipe that gets repetitive after 10 hours of play. You understand that, right?
its nothing like tf2. it the total clone of supermnc, the famous game that not even valve could have advertise enough to keep alive. good luck to blizzard doing the same mistake.
even the ape character looks the same. also this retarded japanese anime hairstyle plus the pixar-ish trailer makes me think they just want a children game for the 10-12 year old kids.
ye
but then.. is it possible to have fun and not enjoy the gameplay at the same time?
like right now i dont see myself commiting a lot of time to play ow even if it was money driven and supported game with lans and recognition from esports simply cause playing process most likely will feel dull for me. On another hand i see myself playing quake cause even running around without ppl in game feels soothing
It is very boring to me. It is almost nothing like an FPS except a first-person view and there are guns. Truly, it is a first-person MOBA. Skill isn't a real factor. The hitboxes are enormous, so if you're looking toward your target, you're hitting it. Guns are about 20% of the screen. Mouse acceleration is built into the game as of now. That was the first thing I noticed. Overwatch was exactly what I thought it would be, a game I never want to play again.

It was fun to watch yesterday how the biggest OW streamers (summit1g 30.000+ viewers) team was owned by Dahang, Slasher and co. They were afraid of the the Quake "pros" as fuck and chickened out after a couple of rounds. :))))
