CA players are used to CA. No items, all weapons, full stack. Put them in FFA and their habits from CA will plague them. In a sense, they do have poor working memory (for Quake) because there are no items to time, but they're also accustomed to playstyles specific to CA, which don't at all revolve around items like the other gametypes.

I'd say duel/TDM/FFA/CTF players would have an easier time in CA than the other way around. TDMers might have the easiest time, due to the teamwork they learn in TDM. Then again FFAers and duelists would do decently too, since CA can have a lot of "hero" moments. So I'd agree.

sadly though, there aren't any TDMer games except the private ones.

Duel/TDM/FFA/CTF players don't have to balance their focus between items and can focus entirely on shooting green robots, so of course they'll do better than the average player.

However, I like to think that top CA players just outaim the shit out of them, just because all they do is aim.

I also should say that even while duel is convenient for competitions, actually duels require less brain than ffa. In duels you have only 1 opponent to track and most of the item timings you know and/or can control, but in ffa you need to deal with multiple opponents simultaneously and at the same time keep track of the items and weapons and adapt to unexpected situations really fast because so much is happening beyond your control. Duelers are almost brain-dead compared to adaptivity of a typical ffa player. I even heard duelers call ffa "random", LOL. Well, certainly from point of view of a dueler's slow static brain it looks very random and incomprehensible. Let's be realistic, duels are in quake only because it's easy to stream and make tournaments with low player numbers.

The thing that has always confused me about CA is why don't you just go play counter strike? Aside from there being recoil and real weapons in CS it's the same damn thing. No. CA is raw skill. That's it. Duel takes strategy and a little brain, but you can get by without a lot of skill and cheese. Two different games.

Unrelated note: anyone else get nerfed recently? I'm forced handicapped :(. This happened once before and went away after a day, but it's really frustrating when you haven't touched the game in a week, come in, and you get nerfed.

yeah I feel like my brain has become mash potatoe due to over-consumption of CA games. I tested this out by using a mathematic textbook that I used in college. I tried to do some differential calculus for the first time after some time not doing them, and realize that I couldn't do any of it. I literally forgot all the mathematics I studied in college. Theres too little action in all the other gamemodes. So ive stuck with CA the longest by far. Its a personality type/adhd thing for me. I also dont like commitment, which is why i stopped playing competitively like 5-6 years ago.
I just start up QL, look for a CA server averaging the highest lolelo possible, try to get as close to 50/50 teams as possible, also try to get in the zone. And then suddenly 5 hours have passed, if those requirements of mine have been met. I dont care for lower skilled games or 8v8 stuff, but if theres nothing else to do i sometimes give it a try. more often than not i perform alot worse against lower skilled people though. I just dont care about games with spam and massive random elements. I guess i take my fun seriously, but anything other than over 9000 lolca elol doesnt interest/stimulate me :>

It works, and I think it does post the movies to IGMDB's YouTube channel. You should receive an email after the demo has been processed with the link to the movie on YT.

You can use QLDT to browse the demos; it lets you see who the players are in each demo without having to play it.
