I played my first game last night... it started off pretty rough, but became more enjoyable as I figured out the movement and gun mechanics.

The game attempts a balance between "realism" and quake/ut like movement. The result is a very arcade like feel.

Your weapon loadout is similar to choosing a loadout in COD games... with less bells and whistles.

As for the movement it feels a little sticky but that may change over time. How aggressive you can get with your movement is limited by your stamina. As your stamina reduces, and it reduces pretty fast, you lose the ability to keep speed/trick jumps going. You could argue that is also part of the games charm.

It seems the mode of choice is CTF, though I've been focusing on TDM to get warmed up to the gameplay. I can see how CTF might be a little more enjoyable, since in TDM you end up with clusters of people in various choke points.

Yeah and my goal with this was just to visit classic "dead games"... I was actually very surprised how easy it was to find a match. I was expecting a few hit and misses before I could get a game going but it was actually easy.

After playing a few matches I do have to say there's something satisfying about sliding around a corner and making a frag.

used to play it 10 years ago. still have buddies that do :x, guess there's some magic to it.

Yeah I was suprised to see there's still a fairly active community. It's not what I remember from 10 years ago. The city scapes in my head looked a lot better hah... 10+ years will do that though.

Used to have some serious laughs with my buddies in this game like 10 years ago. Something about headshotting people and watching the head model disappear while the body plays its death animation flying through the air super fast just made us belly laugh until we were crying.

It's been a long time though and the game looks and feels super dated nowadays.
