I have mac wireless mouse for my macbook and it is simply disgusting and weird to control, because of upper sensor position.

This is even worse though, the sensor is to the left of the center..

whats the difference if the sensor is not in the same place?? not like it moves the cursor in 3d, sensor position should not affect anything or im wrong?? why???

I've found quite often you dont move the mouse side to side, but use your wrist to rotate the mouse in an arc, with your wrist as the centre point.

With an off centre sensor, this will make your mouse movements left to right inconsistent, one way your cursor will move downward, the other upward as you move it left to right (depending on which side the sensor is offset to).

Of course, one could argue the user could get "used" to this undesirable behavior, but why put up with it in the first place?

First of all we should make a clear distinction between vertical off center and horizontal off center.

Vertical off center is a different animal. If the sensor is toward the back of the mouse, it will be very difficult to make adjustments with the wrist, and will be kind of an 'arm-only' mouse. An example of this is the original razer boomslang.

I find this really rather uncomfortable and awkward, but plenty of players used it fairly well.

The other direction, putting the 'sensor' closest to the front of the mouse where the buttons are is much more palpable as it allows both wrist and finger corrections. The original Microsoft ball mouse was a good example of this. As far as I know this hasn't been explored in an optical mouse.

Placing the sensor directly under the knuckles seems to be the most natural, and behaves the way most people "expect" when they use a mouse.

Of course one can effectively move the sensor vertically by adjusting their grip, but the mouse may not be conducive to this depending on its shape and the size/shape of the player's hand.

Horizontally adjusted sensors are extra bad though. The first logitech mouseman dual optical was an example of this, and it felt _horrible_. It was unusable to me.

For one, when making wrist corrections, you have more space on one side relative to the other and this makes for an awkward, unnatural "mismatch" of mouse motions. For arm movement you have to be aware of, and correct for the difference in horizontal sensor position. One side always feels "cramped".

Of course centering the sensor by adjusting your grip usually results in an untenable mouse grip. It's just a mess really. Everything in your previous experience of tool use tells you that this is an awkward thing when it comes to fast precision motion, but it's "negotiable" for the kind of casual motions you'd use when just browsing the web for example.

I mean imagine a pen that draws an inch to the left of the ballpoint, or a car key with a grip offset an inch to the right. You'd lose a kind of natural dexterity until you got used to correcting for it, but the whole time you'd be asking "why?", and "is this idiocracy?"

The thing is that they don't consider sensor position so critical with these laptop wireless mice because usually you're just happy not to have to use the touchpad, and something like the sensor position is not a hindrance really for casual use. Try to play an fps game with it though and it will drive you nuts.
