That's quite a stack up for the quarters - if be scared to go through from 1/8 round!! And 1/8 round looks reeeaaally interesting too - a lot of uncommon match ups, so should be a fun couple weeks. Like Christmas has come early! And then evil-cypher final and we realize that we knew what was in the gift wrap and it's really the same "gift" we've gotten for the past seven years.

And speaking of seven, can someone remind me where he is this season, didn't qualify? Or didn't enter at all?

afaik his internet provider didnt change but routes somehow got worse, week ago he had everywhere near 80-100ms including .se servers, except for .ru, where he had 30-40. i guess it's changed again now

that sinister was sick play by base... :D he is getting much better. from average player to one of top players.. and bakseen is getting worse

cant wait for killsen cypher.. this time could be more equal, cypher is not in best shape, and killsen seems to be in best shape in long time.. so it could be 3 2 to cypher

also it can be explained in various believable manners:
1) He might be playing at his brother's house with 144hz monitor finally
2) he might have started playing guitar
3) he might have borrowed his account to evil
None of which are a bannable offense and therefore not cheating by id standards.

On the ohter hand he also goes for angles as fast as he goes for the opponent's body and he moves as fast and as neatly as he aims.. And the fleshy+super fast moves he tries at the end of the matches, also with some passive style from time to time out of control, are not exactly evil's bread and butter

Yes and actually (as of May 2013) theres no longer such a thing as Asperges syndrome, today its just called autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The main difference between the old autism syndrome and aspergers was that people diagnosed with aspergers syndrome didn't show delay in language development, as such people with aspergers syndrome could be just as or even more socially dysfuntional as the "real autists" but still "only" have the aspergers syndrome diagnosis.

As long as Agent doesn't cross the line like he did for no reason against K1llsen (the gg hitler thing, or even evil's o/ sigh heil bullshit) or ragequits after a minute in game there's no real harm in some trashtalk.
Expecially against an opponent like strenx who's been keen to trashtalk since day1, has always whined nonstop to abuse ping advantage, has always been in the rumble smacktalking with cooller and rages nonstop in whatever context.

In every major sport i followed stuff like that has always been a part of the game, as long it does not go way over the top, and those are professional athletes with sponsor and thousands times the exposure our quakers have.

125fps admins can do whatever they think it's best for the league and quake (in this case, one would hope nothing), but as viewers let's not pretend Agent did anything crazy for a competitive environment, this time around.

Just bringing up a foums episode and a famous athlete. Mohammed Ali made a career trashtalking his opponents to throw them off their comfortable zone. I could post thousands of vids of ppl going at someone else.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not arguing it was playful, nor that agent is free to do his wrost untouched, i'm arguing that some trashtalk is not out of place in competitive quake and a player like strenx is used to that stuff and i doubt he's hurt in his feelings.

i don't watch basketball. materazzi got a two match ban for what he said, and everything agent has said has been much worse. trashtalk is fine, but not the kind agent is spewing every chance he gets. agent joined a couple of strenx's games when strenx was streaming and shit talked him for no reason, making fun of strenx's cs:go rank among other things. i'm not going through his hours of vods looking for a 15 second segment so you can either take my word for it or look yourself.

there's history between strenx and pretty much all the russian community since back in the Zotac days, when strenx was accused to force the eastern european to play on his terms on servers he wanted to and where he couls have a ping advantage, behind this reasoning:
-Strenx was not used to high ping, while the russians were, so it was fair for strenx to have a ping advantage, sometimes even a massive one against people like Pavel (in the 20/30 vs 70/80 realm)

Of course that was cause of massive turmoil and butthurt alongside the russians who were penalized because they had an extra skill (being good on highping as well) alongside the fact he strenx probably didn't need those advantages because he was such an unstoppable force back in the zotac days.

On agent's side, he's batshit crazy as far as we can tell and has an history of arguing with pretty much the whole scene.

sorry i really have to interrupt here you didnt watch the match i think especially he outbrains me... see on dm13, i think there is no map where brain matters the mostt AND aero, where you have to choose situations when to be aggressiv, and when not :D

Dont worry K1llsen, Exer is immensily wrong and we know it. To get such close games vs Cypher you can't be only aim that's just a noob comment... You played really smartly and overall incredibly well. It could've gone either ways.

dont get me wrong, i like killsen, he is my most favorite player after cypher and cooller, but cypher is overall better player, and he didnt played his best in that games, and still won... killsen played rally great, he could win..but like he said, its not shame to lose vs cypher. even not in best shape

I have Timezone: Europe/Moscow in my profile settings.

CET = UTC+1; MSK = UTC +3; => Only 2 hours difference.
And if you say cup is starting at 19:00 CET, it means 21:00 MSK.

This is just stupid, cypher didnt do anything wrong.

The aerowalk could have been a great map, and maybe it would have resulted in some great maps - the 2 first was ridic yes, but evil just had his number and was godly clutch which completely wrecked any kind of attemps from Cypher.

Instead of banning a top 2 player, perhaps remove the option for:

- Telephone timeouts
- Buttscratch timeouts
- Pee timeouts
- Timeouts due to brother playing guitar
- 102.Tactical.Timeouts (tm)

rule of x amounts of personal timeouts per match should be implemented ASAP. Personal and not from referee.
Personal pause can be tactical or for what ever reason.

After that timing out means fortified map. That timeout was obviously tactical and could have been abused countless of times.

any troubles with evil's timeouts? Evil used it 2 times: once at aero for telephone call and once on cure, when he thought that cypher was lagging.

p.s. also personal pause can be used for real life, you know, there is such thing except quake.

Please, have you been following quake at all? He's done it so many times in the past, pausing games exclusively when his opponent is on a comeback or just on a good run.
It's kind of like dives in football, just poor sportsmanship that is annoying to see.

Anyway Evil looked much more prepared concerned on the result. While Cypher was looking like a little girl coming for nor real reason and trying to get some attention.

Even if Evil used timeouts to stop enemy's run, or to calm himself down, why it should be called as poor sportsmanship manner? Such timeouts, time delaying are used everywhere in the real sports.

And yes, I do follow the Quake scene for like 9 years, and I saw a lot of timeouts for different reasons, and there is one thing I know - real winner will stay concentrated anyway, and his shape will not depend on enemy's timeouts..

You can't call timeouts in the middle of plays in other sports. Yeah maybe it's a bit like time delaying (faking injuries etc) in football, call me a moralfag but that's also lame and poor sportsmanship in my book, and ideally these things shouldn't become a part of the game.
Sure you can argue that the other player just needs to deal with it, but it doesn't make it any less bullshit. Imagine if everyone starts pausing during every comeback, quake doesn't need that.
A real winner should be able to play a 10 minute duel without pulling stunts like fake phonecalls. If you honestly believe he got an important enough phonecall to interrupt a grand final, at a late hour in his timezone no less, then you haven't seen how many times he's pulled exactly these timeouts. There's no benefit of the doubt anymore.

But I just noticed there's already a thread about this where these arguments are thrown back and forth, so I guess we don't need to spam this one any more.

really bullshit, even if it was fake phonecall i dont see a reason why he cant make a timeout like in any sport. And limiting the amount of timeouts its nonsense (do you want <2 timeouts for 4 maps?), because there is many many situations when it can be useful. Also you didnt mention how annoying cypher can be with his trashtalking, just because you dont know the language he speaks. And I can remember many many times how he affected the game of his opponents by that and made them loose. If I can defeat you by 2 short timeouts, you better go and improve your head.

Fair enough, if you see nothing wrong with it then I can't help you. But interrupting the game is a whole different thing than typing stuff in chat. And I'd say if you need a pause every time your opponent is on a comeback, you'd also better go and improve your head.

Both it wrong, but you dont try to punish cypher (or any other player) for trashtalk, but you want to punish evil even if you dont know exactly was it phonecall or not. But when cypher chatting you know really clear, what he want to do. You can limit the amount of timeout but how you differ what makes him to call timeout, or may be you go to evils home and stand next to him?

Yeah, shit can happen during a game, but theres a clear pattern in what Evils been doing for the last two years.

One timeout in an attempt to throw your opponent off is already one too many if you ask me.
But yeah, you could at least set a limit for the timeout abuse, maybe allow just one per series, more timeouts only if a player is lagging. If you really have to take such important phonecalls (that last like 10 seconds?) then you just might have to sacrifice a map next time.

Evil looked fairly solid throughout, Cypher didn't look as if he was firing on all cylinders throughout. Cypher only seems to play in God mode just before, during and just after a major LAN event. The rest of the time he's world top 5. Base and Ash looking good in this. I thought Clawz might have done a little more. Well played Evil! :)
