Or just buy a Zowie FK which feels ALOT like the WMO, only 20x better, and runs at 500hz or 1000hz without any effort.

They don't care in Quake so it's a non issue here. The only other game the 1.1 sensor mice are used (and that matters) is CS:GO, but no idea what's their policy there.

At this point if I were to go pro (lol) I'd use something different, for convenience and in order to avoid running into technical issues, such as skipping on 1920x1080 which is the native res of the screens they use at tournaments, potential negative accel and the need to mess with windows settings for changing the usb port hz (cn't be done in windows 8 too). Nowadays the WMO is not "just a mouse" anymore, so might as well use something that is.

for quake you can still probably get away with it, but if you're seriously going to LAN then I would consider something else. If you've done the USB overclocking many times and know the process well, you can have flawless results at lan. Some events people were killing USB ports left and right, some because they were doing it wrong, others because they were using the beta driver of the driver overwriting software. DKT killed an entire PC at qcon, all USB ports were dead. Hilarious shit 

a few things have changed though, all these events get brand new stuff so Win8 has to be at some of these events. Windows 7 was alright, but I do not want to even attempt that USB stuff on Win8. The process is different and from my understanding unreliable. 

The other reason is the cheating stuff in CS:GO, that changed a lot and DH went balls to the wall on peripherals. I doubt anyone was using a MS mouse OC'd at 500hz at DH for CS:GO. No way the people there did that for players, as it's not official software. 

Even if the event is running Win 7 and you can do what you want, if you have to move from PC to PC (especially later on during stage matches) the USB stuff gets really tiring. I used a wmo for a long time, a fantastic mouse, but in 2015 I'd be worried about using it in tournaments. I have been using a g100s which doesn't require any USB OC'ing for 500hz, plug and play. That alone saves you probably 5-8 minutes for setup each time. I held onto the wmo for a long time because of how nice it was, but you reach a point where you realize you can use another mouse and aim just as well after using it for a while. If you're comfortable with it and you know the sensor is decent, most issues are placebo/nocebo. 

I don't know what you're planning to play in the future, but e-sports is way more commercialized now. The days of chilling at once PC for a while is kind of gone, I find events puts you on multiple PC's through the event. It's nice to have peace of mind knowing you can just plug in your mouse and go. I understand your concern though, those are great mice that you'd want to use. If you can find a solid replacement, go for it. You will aim just as well, and really at the end of the day it's how you play and the decisions you make. So if you do want to go to LAN and have minimal issues, definitely go for something else. If you think you're going to go to a DH or something for some TDM fun, I'd say try the wmo and bring a replacement or deal with 125hz if it's not working properly. If you're competing in the future, I would plan accordingly.

you can have cheats installed directly to mouse chip, you can get cheats directly through steam cloud/workshop (quakelive @ steam).

Don't joke about cheat on mouse (with some chip freaking inside).
Back into 2008 I saw nice MX518 project with some extra 64kb memory inside that used to store custom soft to change mouse cursor position on screen according to some mouse movements patterns. For example fast short Up-Down movement moved cursor automatically to lower boundary of current open window.

So it looks really stupid, when people don't check gamers gear on LANs or even allow bringing your own PC to some competitions.
And if its not stupid, then the competition is just arranged as planned and this fact really brings any kind of cyber sport to nowhere.
