Few quick comments for both old and new users:

- If you had used QLDT in the past (before standalone QL), please navigate to the Settings and click Defaults. This will detect current path of QL in your system.

- If you have WolfcamQL installed, just pick the location of your wolfcam*.exe as the "Other" player. You can also make it the default for viewing demos/edit preview or having it as an option under right mouse button context menu.

- "Find frags" searches for frags scored by the demo recorder (usually: your own frags in your own demos). If you record a demo while spectating someone else, their frags aren't meant to be found by this command.

- dm_73 demos will force running the "Other" demo player (usually WolfcamQL) on all operations (playing demo, watching found frags, watching edit previews). It's possible to convert them to dm_90 but it doesn't seem useful enough to implement.

- Editing dm_73 demos works, but produces dm_73 demos as well (again, playable with WolfcamQL but not QL itself).

- QLDT will automatically run QL and WolfcamQL in windowed mode with in_nograb 1. QLDT will automatically add setting of "in_nograb 0" to your QL's autoexec.cfg, creating one if necessary.

Quick note to Linux users: yes, it works on Linux, with both native WolfcamQL (just point it to wolfcam.i386) and standalone QL (should autodetect QL if it's under ~/.wine/drive_c/ aka the default configuration). I don't provide binaries, but it's trivial to compile with Qt4.

sf.net doesn't add adware to the programs. Guess you're confusing it with cnet etc.

I'm not saying your file is dirty or that every software they host has unwanted parts , but still.... it was just a friendly heads-up in case if you would care.

They have an installer what developers can use if they want to, and they like to include "things" into that from time to time. There were some major cases about this (Filezilla for example) when they repeatedly refused to acknowledge their wrongdoing even when it was all proven (edit: installer made a connection rp.mamamama2[dot]com and sent stuff there during and after install)

I was gonna write how awesome SF has always been and all the yadayada.

But yes their installer does come with adware, and I was actually trying to see if it was and didnt even notice I clicked accept to install "My Backup" - untill after it was installed and showed up on my desktop. I mean it's not like it was hidden, but somehow I still managed to miss it.
Pretty poor by SF imo, but I guess it can be avoided once you are aware of it - or by using the direct download link.

Something I noticed but could be some fuckup on my end. I always used demo tools config editior but after reinstalling I couldn't assign config files to qldtce.exe. I could but nothing would happen. Only after assigning it to qldt.exe, it would work but it would also open up the demo tools at the same time which is annoying. Anyone has this problem?

I figured most people prefer to use a better editor, so in this release, the installer by default doesn't assign QLDTCE to your .cfg/.menu files.

But you're saying you actually have selected those options during installation and it still doesn't work? If you're not sure, fastest way is reinstall - you won't lose settings or demo cache, don't worry.


Edit: I have also tested uninstalling completely (so Wordpad got default), installing without file assignment and then using "Open with..." to point at qldtce.exe - that also worked and remembered the setting. So I don't know...

Reinstalled it a few times and still couldn't get it to work. Then I installed it on another laptop and it worked fine :/

Thanks. Would converting old demos to the new protocol enable them to be played back without the use of wolfcam? I cannot stand viewing videos in low res/refresh, although something is better than nothing.

Strange, r_displayRefresh exists in ioquake3, at least after upgrade to SDL2. Guess brugal has some catching up to do with tracking ioquake3 :)

Still, old version (used in Wolfcam) is happy to run at high refresh rates, depending on modes reported by video drivers. Not to mention window mode :)

Please understand, it's not a one-liner to teach QLDT to convert demos, so it looked pointless for this release. I was thinking most people already forgot about the old format, not to mention wanting to play it back in QL instead of Wolfcam :)

This version runs well for me. I tried a previous version and it didn't work so well.

Two comments
1. can you ignore telefrags during warmup phase (in CA)
2. round end should be a boundary for considering two frags to be within the time proximity that the search query lets you specify. Maybe this can be a toggle, but if I get a frag in round 1, then 2 frags in round 2 I don't want to see that as '3 frags within 10 seconds of each other'.

I mentioned this in comment #1 - dm_73 demos will always use the "Other" player (because QL can't play them).

So go to playback settings and set path to wolfcamql.exe on the Other tab. From then it will use Wolfcam for dm_73 demos / edit preview / search preview.

You can also set Wolfcam to be the default player for dm_90 by checking all the options there.

This error seems to appear and disappear for people. I'll add more debugging for the next version, unless someone finds out a reproducible case.

You must have noticed by now, the new version doesn't have a built-in player window anymore. That had buttons and its own binds, but now there's just nothing to bind - everything is done in QL or Wolfcam.

However, you can choose a special config to be used for playing demos. I use this basic one. Caution: you need to manually fix volume values for your system.

There's currently no way to bind prev/next demo.

minor complaints: the xml output converter (and thus the command-line access to using QLDT) is broken with the new block format.

xml parsing(with command-line execution) allows me to change lescheats.dm_73 into furiousheights_leszny32_chance2_in-eyes_drzguard_1276971272.dm_73
When you have 400,000 demos, you have to be able to sort and manage them.

Let me re-iterate that QLDT is awesome. Without it, I would not be able to watch a single dm_90 demo.

Too bad we'll never see Leszny vs chance, as much as I'm not interested in duel, that's something I'd watch and put E$ on ;)

But QLDT already has the Auto Rename feature, and I have no idea what "32" and "2" stands for but you absolutely CAN rename demos to something like "furiousheights_LeSzNy_bs_chance_in-eyes_guard.dm_90" (yes! <P> doesn't include guard's clantag, omg the horror ;))

I accept patches of course! (I don't think SourceForge has pull requests, but for this project, any move would really be a fork which I didn't want).

You are right, Leszny never played Chance.
And yes, the numbers (32 and 2) are the scores, which QLDT cannot do AFAIK.
But again, this is a very minor issue and not worth your time to fix. The primary purpose of QLDT is to parse the header and playback the demos. It does this very well and everyone thanks you for it.
I'll look at the source, but I'm not sure an xml parser is worth coding for only 100 demos.
(to babble longer, what I really still need is a Quake4 demo parser -- thanks to you, it's now the only Quake game that doesn't have a demo parser).

Those are definitely not correct.

I'm having a somewhat similar problem; I've got the following paths set (the "..." part is my actual filesystem path leading up to the Steam directory):

Quake Live exe: .../Steam/SteamApps/common/Quake Live/quakelive_steam.exe
Quake Live basepath: .../Steam/SteamApps/common/Quake Live
Quake Arena exe: .../Steam/SteamApps/common/Quake 3 Arena/quake3.exe
Quake Arena home: .../Steam/SteamApps/common/Quake 3 Arena

I didn't fill anything out in the "Playback -> Other" tab, but whenever I try to launch a demo I get a popup that says "Unable to initialize process Other". It's almost like it's not even trying to run "quakelive_steam.exe". This is for a .dm_73 file, if that matters.

Are these the right values? When I click "Defaults" it just clears all the fields, so that obviously isn't right. :)

dm_73 demos must be played in the "Other" player (which basically has to be WolfcamQL) because QL doesn't play them anymore. Therefore, even though you haven't chosen to use external player, QLDT forces it for dm_73 demos.

Only dm_90 (current format) can be played with quakelive.exe.

PS. Not for you, but if someone has path trouble, you can try this test version which contains a homepath searching fix.

Ah, of course...surprised that didn't occur to me. Thanks for the help, that's resolved the problem (I'm having some issues with demo playback in WolfcamQL, but that's clearly not a QLDT issue :)).

Thanks a lot for continuing to work on this stuff by the way (not to mention, providing support)! If only whatever company owns the Quake IP these days would put a tenth of the effort that, say, Valve has done for DOTA 2 into making spectating better...
