I still cant live with CRT.
Even though it has its great uses in Quakes, I cant stand that huge ass sitting on my desk.
I remember my main CRT from late 90s, a huge Trinitron with ass so big it could be safely called THE BIGGEST ASS IN THE HOUSE.
And then LCDs came and desk was mine again. Not some huge x-ray bursting cathode ray tube's.
So good for you man, but I used all of my CRTs as a target practice for BB guns a long time ago

CRT not emitting X rays. Oook...If you were not asleep at physics class, you would remember that electron beam bombards the aperture grille (sometimes called shadow mask) and emit X-ray radiation in front of the tube. FDA actually had a regulation for CRT producers for amount of escaped X-rays at the length of about 5 cm from the glass.

Those electrons then hit phosphorus coating which excites converting that energy into photons, pretty similar to the CFLs that are so popular now. The rest is filtered by the glass rich in lead and whatnot . I compared the glass thickness of my CRT to a CFL hanging from the ceiling and I'm definitely not scared of the CRT's emissions :)

Well duh, but they emit Xrays nonetheless.
Especially the ones before 2007.
i havent made any measurements with that Trinitron, but given how it was almost in my face (I usually have a ton of electronic equipment on my desk in one of the rooms where I play) I was always wary of being closer than 20-30 centimetres.
It's hard to discuss this without comparing specific models, because there *is* a risk of very old CRT leaking XRay emissions at a longer distance and at higher doses than prescribed by FDA.
By the way, this is totally off topic.
Point is, CRTs are a waste of space for me if I can afford excellent LED gaming monitor that does the job. I don't play Q hardcore since 2003 so I dont care about these CRT knick-knacks related to gameplay. But for nostalgia sake and for people who need this for their own reasons, CRT is fine IMO.

Just buy a bigger desk. It's better anyways.
