I already had a 24 inch 120hz TN panel monitor so chose to save money and bought a 27inch IPS monitor for watching movies which isn't 120hz. It cost a lot less in the end. Plus I want to see what happens with 4k monitors. Right now, I don't see any value in it but in a few years there might be.

Monoprice announced a 30" 2560x1600 (16:10 nerds rejoice) IPS monitor with a guaranteed overclock to at least 120Hz.

It's awesome, practically the best gaming/computer display ever.
Remember that reviewers always get cherry picked samples though and it won't be available for consumers before mid-April or something. Might end up selling my Rog Swift to get it.

Do you have any recommendations for a small case but decent (upgradable) gaming system with a g-sync video card?

I've been getting newegg kits for past 10 years, but I think I'm kind of tired of their crappy big cases.

Can't really help much regarding the case sorry... Myself I'd like a smaller case since my rig draws very little power and generates little heat these days, it'd be nice to have something a bit lighter and smaller. Not that I need to move it a lot these days though so I'm not in a rush.

Anyway I personally check this site: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article75-page5.html since they have very good in-depth reviews and noise is one of the most critical factors for me.

It was just matter of the time. Personally I'd wait for 1ms 144hz IPS models and some price drops.

1ms IPS will be a long time... if ever at all. This thing will sell just as good if not better than the Swift, they will keep the price as high as they can for as long as they can. Only thing that will really make things move is the AMD alternative (Freesync monitors), hope those things come out soon even if I myself dislike AMD and will not use their products.

This thing is almost as good as the Rog Swift in terms of pixel response time (which is advertised as 1ms TN, specs as usual don't mean much). It actually is arguably better than the Swift because there are no overdrive artifacts. The Swift and other 1ms TN panels have some overdrive artifacts. The Predator even manages to have less input lag than the Swift, which is crazy because the Swift's was already negligible.

I don't think LCD can really do much better than this TBH. We need a new display tech, this is still LCD with shitty contrast ratio, uniformity issues etc.

+ the price of the triple SLI 980 to cope with the 2560x1440 pixels @144Hz, but even that won't be enough in many games:)

That's way overkill, even more so with g-sync. Plus multi GPU plain sucks, it adds about as much latency as v-sync (either that or you get micro-stuttering) and never gives a reasonable performance increase relative to the price you pay for it. That and all the driver issues (including issues with g-sync for that matter :p )

A single 970 or 980 plays all games really well in 1440p if you don't go nuts with the AA settings. 40-60fps with g-sync actually feels great, that's what you get with the most demanding games out there atm. And on many of those titles the performance could be way better if the devs actually bothered optimizing the code a bit.

Can you use a Displayport adapter to connec to this? Or do you need a native DP on the card.

Hum not really sure about that, it's really a pure PC display with no scaler or anything that expects a pure displayport connection from end to end.

You might get 1440p@60hz or something with HDMI/DVI to DP but I haven't heard of anyone doing it.
