Just like in reflex, people will make remakes of old quake and cpm maps, then to say it's new they will alter the layout a bit and give it a different name, lol. These old maps are never disappearing unless the devs want to. Same with the gameplay in mods.

On topic, there's not enough new maps to do that in first place, let alone versatile enough.

I'd like to see the return of 15 min matches Bo3. And a total of 4 maps for players to learn. And all these maps brand new.

Most reflex players seem to only really be interested in newer maps. The only times I've played cpm3 since the first few weeks of release is when noobs have it as their only map and don't realise that it's old.

The old players still beat everyone regardless of new map or not.
It's overall player skill not how many times a maps been played.

A new map doesn't = even play.
All the top players are still better on the new maps.

I don't think either of them are really new.
nitrino has played ql since 2008 and prolly played q3.

they beat inactive players... and occasionally active top players but not often.
I don't think it has anything to do with maps unless you're talking about map design and how it lends to play styles. They might be new to duel, but not quake. Whatever skillz they've built in other gametypes helps a lot.

I think it all boils down to the individual. How fast a person learns, and in a game like this... how much info you can gather from seamingly nothing.

Why not remove the veterans themselves? They clearly seem to be the problem for you hand out desiring new players. Once the old folks are gone you can win every tournament and become the next God of War Sanchez.

Never said get rid of veteran players. BUt I do think players that have played certain maps for 10 years have a big advantage. And I still do.

that's what new games are for, not new maps - make a popular new game and then you get a relatively fresh set of top players

The problem is no match making system, no new custom content, lack of advertising to pull in new people, QL needs more servers to keep everything stable, and etc.

or maybe remove all maps in QL except TOXICITY!

Many quake maps have been remade, actually. Even ZTN had some changes made to it for Quake 3.

most players are sheep and want to play the 3 maps that are played on tourneys, tourney organizers are clueless and run tourneys with the 3 maps everyone are playing. vicious cycle that wasnt broken for 10 years, only to be slightly modified when QL came out....

the comparison to soccer always comes up, usualy by people who havent given much tought to the problem and what quake really is.
its the openness and freedom that allowed for so many new things to arise, new maps - thousands of them, models, gameplays and whole new games.

I think we should change the physics of this game and change it to something like COD. Older players have been practicing on the current physics for over 15 years. This is extremely unfair and it has to change.

What does this have to do with what I said? When I was thinking about this, I was thinking about what Zero4 said back at eswc 2003. When he said that maps should be changed up every fear years. Quite a few veteran players have commented on this. It;s not like this is a radical idea.

Ironically, certain aspects of quake 3 have changed over the years. The psycis have changed over the years, at least compared to how quake 3 was back in 1999. The blast radius of the rocket launcher, how much health the rail gun takes, lg hp have changed. Certain oldschool maps have had certain aspects of them changed (pro-q3dm6, pro-q3tourney4, lost word). I don't see why this is so taboo.

This is the same logic. Taking away something good because people have experience with it. It's not a good reason to me. I like having newer maps in the map pools for the sake of diversity; to make the tournaments different from each others. That doesn't mean getting rid of old maps altogether though.

It's just personal opinion. Zero4 said that he thought that if new maps were introduced instead of old ones, maybe new blood will come in. I think voo said something similar. But I don't know, quakelive has been dying over the past year. I really don't see why we can't accommodate new players in certain ways. If certain hardcore gamers of quake are against this, then they obviously have the right to express themselves. But Id software also has the right to stop developing or doing anything for the game, if it doesn't become profitable. And maybe that's ok with some hardcore players as well.

I replied to your earlier post, because I think quake 3 has changed a lot over the years, at least compared to how it was when it was released all the way back in 1999. It has changed in terms of gameplay. physics, remade maps and even new maps.

New maps does not mean a lot of new players in top 16. it is just a change of scenery.
I dont like 7 maps mappool cause it is really hard to learn all 7 and sometimes it gives a lot of onesided games.
Get new 5-7 good maps it is huge problem, cause make map it is not that easy like in reflex, and only id decide that this map is good, not players.

It is difficult to play old maps people have been playing for years, but there are still (even in NA) plenty of newbies and lower skilled people to play against. You just have to add people with similar skill to your friends list, and also it helps to go pro and then make a sub xxxx elo server.

I still really enjoy watching the pros play the old maps. (cooller evil final ztn feb) I like when they know maps so well and are so comfortable on them, they are basically playing mind games with each other and trying to outsmart each other and it's amazing to watch. It makes it harder for new 'pros' to rise up and challenge, but I think the bigger problem is just the state of the game itself rather than the maps. id won't put money into making a new version of quake and then run tourneys for it etc, and that's the main problem.

The old maps are just tried and true. I agree though new maps are great sometimes too. I enjoy playing cure and sinister and the pro silence matches are fun to watch. Also battleforged matches are pretty good lately too.

I've beaten players on those maps who played way more games on that single map alone than I played duels on all maps combined in 6 years. So
