To be honest, the name "Unreal Tournament" is pretty shite. Quake is an excellent name. Quake, Doom, Strife, Strafe, Heretic, Arms of Telos, Cube, Tribes are all wonderful names.

If it was called "splunkblood - garden of the magical dick crystals" and all the player models were sparkling pink dolphins I would still play it as long as the gameplay was good.

"Unreal" is a better name than Quake is.

"Unreal Tournament" is like "Awesome Competition" or "Insane Battle". Its just a weird combination of words that sounds ok now because its been that way for 16 years.

But hey, its subjective. I know a guy who thinks Diabotical is the best name in the word and another guy who cant stop laughing at it.

Quake, Doom, Strife, Strafe, Heretic, [Arms of] Telos, Cube, Tribes are all wonderful names.

What do they all have in common? One to three syllables. The name, or at least a shorthand of it, needs to be 1-3 syllables, catchy and memorable. "Unreal Tournament" ended up begin called "Unreal" or "UT" due to this.

"Diabotical" has 5 syllables (Di-a-bot-i-cal), that in itself already makes it a bad choice. I also can't see a nice shorthand for it. Dia? Boti? Diabot? Diabo? All terrible.
(And some of them are way too similar to Diablo.)

It needs a different name.

The short will probably be botical.

He is getting really lost as of late and it's time to make game design decisions, that before the kickstarter.

First, the decent robot model concept was replaced by the idea of shitty eggbots. Next, a shitty name was arbitrarily chosen. RIP arena FPS. Reborn was the last hope.

The first "decent" model was a pretty boring. Just another generic sci fi "badass" robot.

The eggbots are at least recognisable and have personality, but they arent cool and serious which I can see putting some people off.

Your fanboy detector is broken. I personally dont love the eggbots. I like that they are funny and interesting, but its not something I really want to play as.

But its just a character model, I dont really care much.

Character model, name, aesthetics, sounds. All this shit needs to be good to attract new players, and I want them to be good for that reason, but for me the only thing I care about it the gameplay, so I dont mind playing as eggbot if its a fun game.

but... didn't reflex do most of that shit in like few months, a few months ago? we'll see, but i can't imagine how they gonna compete with overwatch (will be totally different game from veterans point of view, but for casual audience it's gonna be the same shit - like they won't see differences anyway so they'll rather hook onto blizzard's game anyway...)

1. Reflex has no chance of being anything more than a small community Quake clone, forever smaller than Quake Live.

2. Overwatch is more of a MOBA in first person. How depressing it is that it will bury all the skillful FPS predecessors and wannabes in the dark, casual abyss.
