Like TVs, projectors have varying amounts on input lag. I've got a BenQ W1070 in my living room and I think it's got about 24ms lag, but I never use it for gaming. IIRC Optoma projectors, like the HD25, are considered to have the lowest input lag.

Black level is also a big issue with projectors. Each projector itself has a black level of its projection, but even a good black level there would be moot if your room isn't a dark, non-diffuse color. If your room is painted a bright color, the extra light diffusing off of the walls during bright scenes will bounce back onto the screen, washing out the image and raising the black level. It's a noticeable effect, but you kinda get used to it. This is why theaters have dark fabric walls--to absorb the light.

Projectors are really fun when they're set up, but actually running the cables to get it hooked up can be a pain in the ass. Also, BEFORE you settle on a projector, make sure you're aware of it's range of 'throw ratio' and how much image displacement is available through lens shifting, if any. This will dictate the available placements of the projector image on the wall and where you can place the projector for the desired image size. You'll need to brush up on your trig.

Thanks or your reply. The projector I get will be for cinema use only. The one you have is actually the top of my list after abit of research but I'm not sure I can afford that amount of money. The room I'm using it in is my basement - there's only one tiny window and all the walls are painted a like a matt, burnt red.
I could really do with finding a slightly cheaper alternative to the BenQ W1070...

i bought the BenQ TH681 during ebay's cyber monday last year.. i looked it up on amazon.co.uk and it's still ~70 £ cheaper than the W1070... it's also the Bestseller no.1 on amazon.de

if you're going to buy a projector you have to keep in mind the additional purchases ... like i also needed a long power chord, a long hdmi cable, a ceiling mount, and of course a projector screen

dirtyhairy is right... you have to calculate the 'throw ratio' so you can get the biggest screen possible

also, most projectors support 3D ... but to use it you have to buy active shutter glasses which are pretty expensive... i have a pair of them and i can't recommend it ...

you need a 5ghz projector for 4k movies, and dual band wifi card/adaptor that can for 5ghz and 600mbs

Not sure where in the world you are or what your budget is, but the newer BenQ HT1075 is $785 from US Amazon. The Acer H5380BD is cheaper and supposed to be good, but it's 720p. Maybe that matters to you, maybe it doesn't.

About your room: depending on how light or dark of a red it is painted, be prepared for the image to wash out in red light during bright scenes. You may want to consider repainting a dark, neutral color. Since this is your basement, who cares if the walls are black?
