Nope, sorry, there are no listen servers, having them would destroy their current business model.

They had in the past sent out a secure server for large lan events, but I don't think they're doing that any more.

If only subscribers could, it wouldn't really destroy the business model. I can see a few disadvantages from going that way :
- Some servers would probably be terrible and provide a bad experience for other players.
- Complete control from the server host which means bad admins will have more power and stats coming from there cannot be trusted.
- The outrage from non-subs because they will need to pay in order to host a server on their own hardware.

That said, there are advantages too and it might still be worth it. At this point though why only allow listen servers? The real danger would be going too far that way IMO. Players hosting server must not lead to id not hosting servers anymore.

Because once a listen server was out there cracking it to not need to talk back to their host to validate a license would happen in a day.

Still love how they took a product which had a one off price because running any infrastructure entirely dependent on the community both setting it up and paying for it themselves, which was expensive for some, but kept a load of freeloaders happy for a while before it fell apart,

and turned it into something anyone could play for free, but people could pay for purely if they wanted to, and not have to deal with setting up hosting contracts etc themselves.

You presume that I want a server that can be seen from outside the firewall. I do not. I only want a server that can be used on the lan, i.e. it only talks to local IP's addresses. If this were the case all your concerns would be moot.

Well I was answering Anon's question and I don't think he made the distinction but you may be right. Those concerns would indeed be moot for LAN only servers.
