I actually haven't been playing Reflex actively for almost 2 months now. I just can't seem to get the hang of running around like a retard +f rocket spamming and rail whoring to win. The game is nowhere near ready to be played competitively, hence why there are very few top tier players bothering with the game right now.

Spawn system is still broken as fuck, players spawn 1ft in front of you all the time. Instead of spawning based on where your opponent is at the time, it's based off where you died.

Rockets are still the most OP weapon in the game with 128 splash range and 100 max splash dmg. Newborn has said they're going to be nerfing it by a lot, but unfortunately that didn't happen before the tourney. Not only that, the knockback code hasn't been redone yet, so you get popped straight up in the air from rockets all day which is a death sentence against any half decent player. Rocket fights basically come down to who gets the first pop.

The recent LG change didn't do much to make the weapon viable in all but a few situations. IMO this is due to it firing only 15 cells/second. Players in reflex move so fast (ridiculously fast ground friction/strafe speed, another problem the game has) that 15/second doesn't register very well unless your opponent is airborne and their trajectory is predictable. In situations where your opponent is ADAD strafing it's difficult to hit consistently, especially when you are being bounced around all over the place by the stupid rockets. Currently it's dealing 8dmg per cell 15x/sec which is 120dps. I think it would work a lot better to have it fire 20x/sec and drop the dmg back down to7 (140dps) or 6 (120, same as what it is currently.)

Shotgun was also recently nerfed, apparently because rockets are the only weapon allowed to be very strong at close range.

Personally, I think the item timers are a terrible idea as well.

I could go on, but those are the most glaring issues the game currently has that prevent it from being any fun to play competitively.

As for why I'm playing the tournament, sane basically begged me to on multiple occasions, so I gave in. I'm not going to win, probably won't even get top 3, but I don't really care either. Personally I think the whole thing was just an elaborate ploy for sane and gls to rake in some easy money, but that's just me :p

as far as i know they are going to make a less obvious item timer system in the future, im pretty sure this is just because the hud just came out, and the hud "ruleset" is not ready.

unfortunatly everything else you said is true, i have the exact same experience, but the game itself is going in the right direction, its just needs horrible ammount of time to become a real game by every means.

I would be fine with something like the new UT is doing - pie charts that only show up when you get close to the item. Having the exact timing to the second displayed at all times on the hud leads to a pretty shallow experience imo.

And yes, it's going to be quite some time before the game is ready not only for competitive play but full release. I think they're doing a great job thus far though.

item timers are the worst. this game won't be taken seriously when its doing half the work for you
