what is exact reason arkinholm is not played? it looks really great with all those details in certain areas, like foottrap next to ya. the quad+lg area is one of the best powerup zones ever!
Like Battleforged, Arkinholm is a map I really like just about everything about, but simultaneously tremendously suck at. Not with Freeze Tag, I can secure some sweet wins in FT on both these maps, but FFA/TDM I just...pay the price for not knowing the map well enough, errytim.
On that note, Battleforged shouldn't be at all hard to learn if I wasn't too lazy to dedicate precious practice time to, well, learning maps, but Arkinholm, dayum...with its size and all its fancities, I can imagine it taking proper long to really learn it. Which is perhaps why not many people go for it. :/
no offense here, but I am the typical casual pc user, I dont even know what cpu or gpu I use, if I dont look it up in systemcontroll. and for me the map plays fluid and smooth. so it should be easy for all the esr pc experts to optimize their pc's?
It's a 15 year old game, it can run on a toaster. Anyone who i) isn't disabled and ii) doesn't live in an African village can't complain about not having $300 to get a mid-range gaming PC.
The QL engine is a different beast than the Q3 engine, just like WoW will grind to a halt on a 2005 PC, as will HL2 Episode 3 grind to a halt on a 2004 PC.
The engine isn't very different. The modern maps have a shitton more polygons than the old ones though. QL can struggle with that, especially since it doesn't support VBO (unlike ioquake3).
Also, iirc arkinholm is broken in some way with people getting drops when they walk in walls or something. I might be confusing with another map though.
