I dont want high res small corridors with few enemies mixed with slow gameplay and using some flashlight to light areas ...
I want Doom!!!
i.e. hordes of enemies and ultra fast gameplay that gives you an adrenaline rush ...
but yeah, probably this doom 3 will feel like rage, but without vehicles and since its also made for consoles ... you know pretty much what to expect ... Brutal Doom is where its at!

grafix look too crunchy. Not enough anti aliasing or not enough smooth edges to textures. kinda disappointing at first. hopefully its not true but we'll find out in a few months

your whole reasoning is based on the assumption that hardware power is infinite and better graphics can only improve the game ...
you should also take into account that high res gfx also limits the gameplay because hardware power is not infinite, they do not necessarily get a gameplay experience that is as good ... doom 3 was pretty hardware intensive in its time, and all you got was small corrdors with few enemies, because otherwise the hardware would break down ...

I agree with you that bigger areas full of monsters are more enjoyable, but, that shouldnt make the game look like 5 years old on release. Its all about equilibrium.

What you're describing is a game that can't be played by most systems for many years. Not a good marketing decision to go with. Five year old graphics with the same intensity as old doom would be more successful.

More successful in the small doom fan audience, yes. More successful as in growing the community, no. Shadow Warrior 2013 has gorgeous graphics with lots of enemies onscreen and isnt a performance hog.

I'll admit, my pee pee is tingling a little, just a little. Then again, this is the current id, not the one from the 90's. It's like with Codemasters Dirt Rally that recently hit early access. They say they're adamant about making a proper rally sim. But it's still Codemasters. I'm hopeful, but highly skeptical. Inb4 super shotgun can only be obtained by preordering.

On a side note I mostly want it for the graphics to explore and the fact its based on a lot of real world terrain/locations in LA which is kinda a location I have an odd love for.

And I did nearly drown IRL off malibu pier which adds a new twist to the swimming.

Was kinda like quake 3 in execution, but just much more restricted, but as I said, it kinda filled a hole over not having it at all (which is the real horror) and kept the movement side of the game within check.

Seen it in wolf/rage. Both of which are graphically not on par with today's AAA titles. Examples of current gen? Battlefield, Bioshock Infinite, Crysis2/3, shit even cod:aw. Why am I comparing it with these games? B/c doom will be competing against them and that would be one of my concerns making doom.

Do you want absolute cutting edge graphics, or do you want fast paced original doom like gameplay with lots of things on screen, is always going to be the question unless you really do want to have to drop a couple of grand on a new rig again.

Given that the QuakeCon 2014 attendees implied that it was quite fast/bad guy laden like original doom, I'm very happy with those graphics, they look a good improvement over DOOM3.

Its id tech 6, it was confirmed at least twice last year. On Qcon, and by an ex crytek guy who left to work on doom as lead rendering progranmer.

From an employee review written last year:

The non-stop attrition: When all of the teams merged together to create the "new" Doom team 2 years ago, there was around 140+ developers to make the game. Now, there is only around 50. The non-stop attrition has gotten so bad, that they had to contract outside the company for the multiplayer portion of the game, and we have contractors doing a bulk of our art work.

The non-stop reboots and changes of direction: Every 4 months or so, they tell us that the current direction is all wrong for doom, and will re-boot most, if not all, of the game. This means that for over 2 years of work, there is no game to show, beyond 1 or 2 blockout levels and numerous prototypes.

Fun when that happens.

Even more fun when your boss then starts implying you're lacking motivation after these series of events, so you're being double fucked by the bad decision from your leaders, and then blamed by them on a symptomatic reaction to their shitty leadership. And even more fun when you tell them of this, and instead of acknowledging that after sticking two dicks up your ass and its time they pulled out, they try to fuck you with a 3rd and blame you even more until you just leave and the company goes tits up.
