the lights look to bright on yours, which no doubt because you have`nt set the material on any, which wont work in q43a, it will be pitch black, or just some lame ambient light like alot of maps

your revised aerowalk = unknown classname, info_armour_jacket in q43a - error out when loading

This due to Green Armor which isn't in Q4Base but has been added by several mods. I can provide the info you need to add it to Q43a if you want.

To steal is when you take credit from other peoples work. We don't take credit for Preachers work as he is the original maker of the layout that is known as Aerowalk. What we have done is to change things like lighting, textures and some minor changes.

If you call this stealing, then people have been stealing stuff since the beginning of time and things like houses, cars, clothes etc.. The question is how far would you like to go? :)

Gotta say that I don't really like this one. Lighting certainly lacks contrast, i.e. you can barely see shadows. Also the textures look a bit thrown together and overall too colorful for aerowalk. Why not use evillair's eX textures!? They would suit the map best imo.

The map was abandoned a while ago due to the performance issue the map has at 125 FPS. This can not be solved due to the overall layout. Lights have been tuned to be as good as possible when it comes to performance. But since this didn't resolve in what we wanted the map was abandoned.

It could look better, but since it's abandoned we didn't bother putting more time into fixing all the texture, clipping etc that hasn't been perfectly done.

So instead of just trashing a map, I decided to release it.

textures may not look perfect but i think it's a great improvement from the last q4 aerowalk i ran around in

the problem is the textureset of quake 4, these ugly textures make it really hard to make a map that appeals to the eye ...

imo the lights are just too white and too bright, focusing on small areas creating overshiny specular stuff

why would i be, idtech4 is just a bumpmap on all texture show case and high polys added, everything else was unchanged, so carmack talked at all nvidia and ati/amd conferences or whatever,

bumpmapping everywhere is the extra bling of idtech4+, while other engine textures are all look flat, except in random areas

if you dont want matt white material lights, then you have to give all textures new locals, with a lower depth of bump

probaly is done like = bumpmapping and specular is as 1 to create the bumpmapping, and specular lighting itself is rendered separately which is disabled using r_skipspecular, but not disabled when rendering the bump

so you have to use

to lower the bump and shiney level, which is why swinging lights dont cause the bump/shiney effects, because its already rendered, realtime bump in 7 years

or add a new cvar to idtech5 for benchmarkers to renderbumprealtime

no, you cheat using new materials, making the lights darker in th editor does nothing, but make the lights darker, the gfx/lights/material is blended and rendered first, and the light then is added

load up the same maps in all mods, and it will look best in q43a, if they are properly lit in the first place, and when the mod loads up it sets new r_ cvar settings, to make flashlight shadows work and look alittle bit better too, along with brightness and gamma

Everything will look differently depending on what shader you use.
The screens where take with a glprog that is hemisphere ambient, self shadowing and the shader program is interaction(Banks).vfp

I could probably have done it with the standard glprogs but I feel it's to bad looking compared to many others. Banks isn't the best one but it was the one i tested when i did the screenshots.

The prefered one is interaction(Riddick2).vfp as it has a ambient lights fixed and specular/highlights dimmed more down.

A shader will change how it looks at certain resolutions and the outcome of certain lights, but won't "solve" bad lighting. It may and may not look better as it depends on the viewer and what he/she fancies.

installed back q4 recently ; if you're out of mapper I could take a look (that said, I don't have a second monitor atm, and just one is annoying when it comes to use an editor ; but for some supposedly quick fix why not, if I remember how it works)

shift + mouse wheel button - drop editor camera around the grid
ctrl+shich+left mouse - select single side of brush to texture it,
s to get up the texture tool to auto fit textures
use common/nodraw to hide brush surfaces for metal grates and fences or liquid/water pools [ walls and floor another texture is better ], dont need no other common textures, they just mess up the map from being a free world

Can't one just make the walls one colour without any details? Why do the walls HAVE to have all those plates and shit?

Two green armors sounds interesting. I miss the green armour to help balance out dm6. Campgrounds intell was a nice idea.
